  1. There was another 1J that sold a couple of days ago for 16,000 yen that came with super parts.
  2. I thought we already had a live action Macross. It was called Battlestar Galactica.
  3. What VF-1 from Bandai? The model kits? The Hi-Metals? Is this a sneaky mention of a DX VF-1?
  4. I don't really collect Hot Toys, but I sometimes scan the auctions to see if anyone is selling one on the cheap (unboxed, minor damage, etc). I've noticed this one listing that keeps popping up every so often. The listing is always the same, an Iron Man Mark 42 figure for $100 o.b.o. shipped. Every time it's up, the seller is a different account located in a different part of the country. I figure it's got to be a scam of some kind, either knock off figures or listing it as a Movie Masterpiece figure when it's really from the cheaper Power Pose line. But part of me is tempted to roll the dice and see what happens. I figure eBay's buyer protection policy will cover me in the event it's a fraudulent seller. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Hot-Toys-1-6-MMS197D02-Diecast-Series-Iron-Man-3-Mark-XLII-42-IN-STOCK-/191473341501?pt=US_Action_Figures&hash=item2c94b3543d What do you all think?
  5. So I have to ask -- was it on purpose that the freeze-frame preview of the video review was Mrs. Jenius' assets, or was that a convenient coincidence?
  6. Uh, what's with the random boob shot? Is Mrs. Jenius also participating in the reviews now?
  7. I always thought this looked pretty cool.
  8. I bought a set off of a MW forum member a while back for $100 shipped. This was post-Yamato. At the time I thought it was a very fair price. Yes, I'm aware that they sold for less than that back in the way. You may ridicule my purchase when 1) Arcadia does a reissue of the SSP, and 2) they retail for less than my after-market price. :-)
  9. Don't buy them on eBay unless you are desperate. They are overpriced over there IMO. I've seen them on Mandarake in the past for anywhere 8000 to 10,000 yen.
  10. I always use EMS on purchases from Japan, whether NY or elsewhere. One time I used SAL registered for a purchase from NY and it took about three weeks. At first I thought I could handle the wait, but after the second week or so with no updates on tracking, I started to get a little nervous. It arrived eventually without any problems, but after reading other MW forum member comments about trying to get with lost or held up packages, I decided that the extra expense for EMS was worth it.
  11. I think it would be a bit too obvious if Dr. Wells is the Reverse Flash. Then there's this: http://www.digitalspy.com/tv/s246/the-flash/news/a612629/the-flash-star-grant-gustin-on-reverse-flash-fan-theories-are-wrong.html#~oXJtZaPBzjobLJ
  12. I think it can vary quite a bit with SAL. It took about three weeks door-to-door to receive my YF-29 from NY using SAL. I'm on the East Coast.

I'd say Bandai raising prices is more likely than Arcadia lowering theirs. The entire reason why Arcadia raised their prices is because their old pricing model was not sustainable, so it wouldn't make sense for them to lower them (unless it's just a little bit). Honestly, I think the smartest thing for Bandai would be to price the new line comparable to the old Hi-Metal line. The figures are small, and they involve some modest parts swapping, so it won't make sense for most collectors to price it high. And as they start to approach Arcadia's threshold, it doesn't seem like a bargain anymore, and people will find them overpriced for the size and features.

    Hi-Metal R

I have to agree. I think before, the fact that you could get a Yamato valk on sale for not a whole lot more than a Hi-Metal was the biggest factor working against it. But now with Arcadia valks commanding a higher price tag, the Hi-Metal line does start to look more attractive. The fact that they are planning enemy mecha as well as Destroids is another plus. I just hope they don't re-engineer the line so much that you can't swap parts between the old Hi-Metals and the new Hi-Metal Rs... I have Max 1J that I'd like to outfit with super parts.

Isn't that a pic of the 1/72 model kit, not the Hi-Metal? I don't think they released a Milia for the Hi-Metal line.

So I accidentally posted this in the VF-19 advance thread by mistake, moved it over here where it's relevant. Based on the close-up of Milia's valk, it looks like movie-style super parts based on the arm armor parts. I wonder if that's just for the display, or they are cutting corners by not casting a second set of armors just for TV valks.
  17. Yeah, seriously, I forgot which thread I was responding to!

Now this is something I can get behind. It's like someone from Bandai was reading all these posts on MW lamenting the demise of the Hi-Metal line and how it needs to come back or be scaled up into a 1/60 line... *BOOM*.
  20. I used to think it would be cool if they did an anime-accurate leg transformation, but after seeing the results from the model kit I have changed my mind. In my opinion, it's no longer perfect transformation (a debatable point, but I come down on the "no" side), and it just looks too fragile and fidgety of a mechanism to implement well. It's a QA nightmare waiting to happen.
  21. In another example of licensing gone awry -- anyone remember the Mospeada Go-Bots? From what I remember, they released a model kit of Leader-1 in the states that was clearly based on the molds for a Japanese Legioss kit, and another one of Cy-Kill that was lifted from Yellow's ride armor.
  22. I've gone back and forth over this in my mind, and I think I've decided that I don't really want a DX VF-1 to have too many new gimmicks or features that would make it over-engineered. I don't really feel the need for an "ultimate" version of the toy that incorporate every possible anime-accurate feature. Bear in mind that every time you add features or a gimmick, you're adding a point of failure too. I thought the Yamato VF-1 pretty much had everything you really would want a VF-1 toy to have, in terms of features and functions. So I think I'd just want it to offer a good value for the money, with an interesting or different take on the VF-1 than we've already seen that is still faithful to the design. Like skullmilitia said, have lots of tampo so I don't need stickers, include a non-ugly stand, and do it for less $$$ than Arcadia.
  23. The Hi-Metal had shoulders which slid out towards the tail end, and then folded out, rather than rotating out like the V2 Yamatos. It was not unlike how the arms on the Bandai 1/55 worked, except it had the extra step of sliding the arms out backwards so you wouldn't have to undo the hips. The hip bar on the Hi-Metals was similar in design to Yamato's, except rather than having a trap door in the nose/crotch that opened up to secure the hip bar, they had a peg on the hip bar that fit into a hole. The hip joints also had a bit more clearance, and could pull out for greater range of motion. If Bandai decided to release a V1 valk, the Hi-Metal would definitely be the design to take cues from rather than the 1/72 model kit. The hip bar and shoulders on the Hi-Metal were definitely superior to those of the Yamato.
  24. As far as pricing, there's really no need for them to make it as cheap as possible. All they really have to do is undercut Arcadia's YF-19 price by a good chunk for it to seem like a bargain in comparison -- especially considering that it looks like it will include Fast Packs, which some may argue is a more desirable add-on feature than the tons of missiles that came with the Arcadia YF-19. Count me in as pegging it for at least $200.
  25. Calling it now: Shoji Kawamori and Shigeru Miyamoto are teaming up to bring you... Macross Triforce!
