  1. After 7 years, my olde Presario laptop is dying a slow death. First the sound card died, then the wi-fi, just yesterday the dvd drive went kaput, a USB port went dead, and the battery can no longer hold a decent charge. I'm using USB adapters to accommodate these functions, but I'm down to two USB ports, and I'm starting to miss my mouse. This crusty companion is on life support and it's long overdue for an upgrade. After weighing my needs and doing some research, I'm leaning towards a new one like this: ASUS G750JW-DB71 17.3-Inch LaptopCould anyone share their opinion on my choice or perhaps recommend an alternative?
  2. I've seen FM5 for cheap on Ebay too, but do make sure that it's the regular release and not the "Ultimate Hits" edition. Apparently the patch doesn't work with that one. Of course there are other unscrupulous methods obtaining an ISO file.
  3. Complie's MUSHA & Robo Aleste Vasteel has some shooting action too, but it was primarily a strategy game. Ooh, and Baldr Bullet Rohga Armor Force/Wolf Fang Cybattler Spriggan Powered Bangaioh Strania Bari-Arm / Android Assault Devastator Transbot Formation Z/Aerobot (I had to reach down deep in the memory banks for the last two)
  4. The longest part is tracking down the program to apply the patch, and IIRC, the file for the patch contains locations on where to find it. Just run it, apply the patch to the FM iso file, then play via modded PS2 or even a PS2 emulator. Despite the translation team's wishes, there are patched iso files already out there though. Feel free to PM me, I got that program around here somewhere. FM4 was all kinds of awesome. While the characters didn't have the youthful goofiness of FM3's, the gameplay had more depth. Besides, who DOESN'T want to see Wolverine pilot a giant robot? I don't mind talking about Leynos or Valken here, although those games never reached the fame FM got. Aside form the other FM games, track down Ring of Red. But be prepared for loooong battles.
  5. Welcome to the MW thread for the under-appreciated SQUARE franchise of Front Mission. Personally, my first exposure to FM was FM 3 for the PS1. I was totally hooked on that game; the appeal of piloting a squad of fully customizable mechs in a world where such vehicles had actually succeeded in being an integral part of a modern battlefield added to an ungodly amount of hours to be spent on one videogame. After FM3, I went to play FM1, FM Gun Hazard, FM4 for the PS2, FM5, and just recently FM2. I would be remiss to not mention the small group of super-fans whose work allowed me to actually play these games in English. A thorough tour of their website will reveal exactly why FM did not get the attention it should have, not to mention the full reach of multimedia that the West did not get to enjoy. Regardless, I made this thread to gather fellow wanzer-heads, and to celebrate the acquisition of this bad boy, a hardly seen 1/35 scale resin kit of the venerable Zenith wanzer as depicted in FM2: This looks to be quite a build, so if anyone else has built this thing, I welcome your insight. In addition to FM2, I have also been enjoying the FM Dog Life & Dog Style manga. It seems to be a collection of vignettes that take place during the events of FM1. Its a great read, but it certainly deals with a lot more mature themes that none of the games have touched.
  6. Yeah, I reckon Sunstreaker would be a prime candidate for a 3rd party figure. I still have some hope that Takara would make their own toy of Mirage though. Does your Revoltech Megatron need company? Check out these Revoltech style 'cons.
  7. I can only hope that a MP Jazz would look just as good as this Wheeljack. I'm real curious about that weird seam on his chest though.
  8. Progress with the toy line is painfully slow, but the Armarauders FB page hints at a collaboration with Sentinel, and maybe even some news during the Winter Wonder Festival in Japan.
  9. This little beauty came in today. I was worried about the paint quality for Smokescreen, but that fear was put to rest after a quick inspection; the colors are vibrant and applied neatly with little abberations. His joints are rather tight though, much tighter than Prowl's. Of note is that Smokescreen doesn't have the hollow shoulder cannon mounts like those found on Prowl. He instead has small, extendable blue nubs for his unique shoulder blasters. So far TakaTomy is 3 for 3 with the latest MPs!
  10. Nee ha! Bloodia finally arrived from HLJ. SAL is cheap but it sure does take its sweet time. This thing is better than I expected. Included with the figure are the cannon shield, two hands with articulated fingers, the beam "bit", a square base, and an articulated stand. Good heft, neat paint applications, and great joint engineering make for one awesome toy to fiddle around with. My only complaint is that sometimes the right arm comes off the shoulder joint too easily, and that the seams are very blatant on the legs and shoulders. Blodia's very easy to pose and the joints are tight enough to hold some precarious positions. Bottom line, this figure is a real joy to behold especially for one who likes industrial, stocky mecha.
  11. Those elevator shoes on MP Grimlock look plain dumb, there's no way I'd be slapping those clod kickers on my MP-08. I think they look even worse on his back. If that's FT's solution to keep Grimmy taller, then it's probably too late to hope that they would shrink down their Slag. That being said, FT's Slag looks cool, and I wouldn't it being a little taller than Grimmy.
  12. I have no clue. Perhaps a Macross Frontier track? So about video game music, Taito fans should check this out-it's ZUNTATA rockin' out live with a killer shamisen solo:
  13. Finally got MP Prowl ($60 shipped with the launcher-not too bad!). He's great, really makes the G1 fanboy in me squeal with glee. The only thing I had an issue with is the thick layer of white paint on his head; it's not evenly applied and results in a bump on his forehead. Despite that, it's a wonderful toy and gives me a lot of faith in the upcoming MPs.
  14. Sideshow Toys now has my full attention: "Call Me Snake."
  15. Yeah, and it makes for a killer toy. It's definitely not lineart accurate compared to Figueroa's design, but it's close enough. I know a group called Master Collectables made a far more accurate version of Nova Prime, but it was more expensive and only a few actually made it to production. As far as MMC's version is concerned, rumor has it that it may not even be made.
  16. Finally got some time to take a few pics of HyperNovae. Once I made sense of the transformation and got everything to lock together, it's a pretty solid toy. Paint apps are neat, plastic quality is superb and the material feels durable. Needless to say, with the wings on it gets top heavy, but I was able to get it to stand on its own in that fourth pic. Included were transparent orange parts that can be inserted into the wing recesses, but I haven't put them on yet. Also included were silver stickers that may be used instead of the orange parts. I still don't know if I should the stickers, the orangey bits, or both .
  17. Kawamori himself designed that thing. Despite the less than stellar alt mode, it's a pretty cool toy for its size.
  18. Need hot blooded motivation with a Japanese flavor? There's always the legend himself, Hotei Tomayasu: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gkIMBCKnSdw He's quite the talent, and do check out the translation.
  19. I see your Stan Bush, and raise you ANOTHER Stan Bush! When throwing that Dim Mak to a pit fighter's nuts, only one song should be coursing through your body: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tYLOGDT4VEk This song always helps on the long drives home: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cKhfkfnbAMQ
  20. A few motivational songs. Love this guy: Good ol' Cheap Trick (and Tomcat porn!): More proof that Parker and Stone are lyrical geniuses:
