Running Wild!!!!!!!
Valkyrie Hunter D replied to terry the lone wolf's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Word on the street is that the latest KOF games will be released for the PS2 in the near future (with Metal Slug soon to follow-woo hoo!). Check it out: http://www.gamesarefun.com/news.php?newsid=133 Ahh, you can't beat 2-D goodness. -
Bublegum Crisis being re-released
Valkyrie Hunter D replied to areaseven's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Out of 10, I'd give it a 6. Crash wasn't horrible, but I think the attempt to bring Largo back fell flat. And the old suits looked better than the ones Crash introduced. Dig that theme song though! -
Bublegum Crisis being re-released
Valkyrie Hunter D replied to areaseven's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
OMG!! Take that back!!! This is my 4th fav series of all time and in a way I've come to despise the 2040 version. Nope, I'm not taking it back That "ape-woman" crack came straight from Nene in part 8 when Linna and Priss were giving her a hard time during training excercises. BTW, did any of you get a chance to read Adam Warren's Grand Mal? If you hate what he did with the Dirty Pair, you'd probably want to steer clear of it. Warren didn't take too many liberties with his take on BGC, but he does add a little more detail about Sylia and her origin. Overall I thought the story is kinda stale (rogue vengeful android, yadda yadda), and his drawings are too clean and simplistic. -
Bublegum Crisis being re-released
Valkyrie Hunter D replied to areaseven's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
What do I remember most about Bubblegum Crisis? The D.D. battlemover! Only one of the several gorgeous pieces of mecha to strut in BGC. The music? Yeah, it rocks, even the background music (especially in eps. 5&6) is good. I also remember how the art got progressively better with every episode...then they ran out of funding and it ended with part 8 which felt like a "filler" episode Whoops, my vote goes to the ever-elegant Linna. Despite her name, Priss is too much of an "ape-woman", Sylia is too cold, and Nene...has pink hair. -
Weird, I'm working on nose art for my valk and this thread pops up. Being a member of the "Green Dragons" I'm making this caricature into a sticker (props to those who knows where it came from ):

(drumroll) and the winner is: bsu legato! C'mon down and grab your can of squid! It's all you, bsu.

Not the Shelby, but the red car he drives in Riding Bean. Oh yeah, "Roadbuster" is not the answer I'm looking for .
-
Well, I'd hate to kill a thread, so here's another question: Bean Bandit's custom made car, the Bean Bandit Special, is also known as "_____" .

Woo-hoo! BTW, DA it's um, VALKYRIE Hunter D . Jeopardy style: A popular anime hero who makes a brief cameo in the Fist of the North Star movie of 1986.

Zillion on DVD starting Dec. 2003
Valkyrie Hunter D replied to 1st Border Red Devil's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Heh, I played all the Zillion games on the old Sega Master System first not knowing there was anime series for it. Back when anime videotapes were going for $30 a pop, I saw the Zillion tapes Streamline put out, and had to buy more when I saw the first tape. I wanted to see more of the transforming ATV that was in the intro, but that didn't happen with the few tapes that were released. Anyways, I too am really hoping this collection gets published stateside. BTW, I know there was a Japanese version of Lazer Tag that used models of the Zillion guns, but was the anime based on the toy or vice versa? I could've sworn the anime was based on the Lazer Tag toys, but I'm not sure. -
Very convincing! Who made the box, and how exactly is a custom box made?

I'm into all kinds of rock, but I seem to be stuck in the 80's when it comes to artists I like. I dig some J-pop and good anime/videogame soundtracks are always good to find. But if I had to pick one fave band, it would have to be the Cure.

The big Masamune Shirow appreciation thread
Valkyrie Hunter D replied to bsu legato's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Sculpting and facial details are excellent, but articulation is basically nil. I got the regular Deunan during my hunt for the similar resin kit and I'm quite happy with it. It looks a lot better than what I could do with the kit. The guns and armor represent their manga counterparts to a t. And each fig also comes with a dvd with different clips of a CG animated Appleseed story. Actually, there's no cohesive story, it looks a demo piece if anything. Come to think of it, that Deunan figure in the pic EXO dug up looks very close to the Deunan depicted in the dvds. I'm guessing those figures are based on the upcoming Appleseed flick, which could explain the chicken-legged landmate. -
Paint over them with Intermediate Blue (FS 35164). I've used the Model Master version and can say with certainty that its a perfect match. Now all I need are the appropriate markings and I can get on with my next custom .

I've never seen part 3, only snippets of part 1, but part 2 by itself is a great movie. There's some great 80's retro thrash music and awesome mech designs in there (I still want a model of B.D.'s mech). Incidentally, the character designs were done by Y. Umetsu, who also worked on the Gatchaman remake and KITE. It seems only EVE kept her original Mikimoto design. I don't think you have to worry about being flooded by fanboys, MilliaJenius03. The young'uns out there will just think you're another green-haired anime chica.

They're close to the original manga's designs. Although Motoko's lingerie suit was exclusive to the video game. -
The big Masamune Shirow appreciation thread

Oh man, Orion. I couldn't understand what was going on the first time I read through that book, and there are still some story elements which remain cloudy. His little side notes left throughout the book were informative, but added more stuff to look up. That was the first and only comic that made want to research Eastern religion and mythos just to know what the hell was going on. The twin warrior "monkettes" with their spell breaking swords were sweet. As far as his other works, I’m still trying to finish Landlock. The local video store has only had the second part available for the past few years, without bothering to stock the first installment. The character designs are definitely Shirow, but the story seemed dull. I'll have to see the whole thing to make something of it. I'm also curious about Gundress; it looks like more girls and guns schlock but it can't be all bad. (Right?) BTW, has anybody played through Sampaguita on the PSX? -
The big Masamune Shirow appreciation thread
Valkyrie Hunter D replied to bsu legato's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Thanks to Studio Proteus, Shirow's works made up my first exposure to manga with Appleseed being my favorite. However, I don't like how Deunan looks in the Hypernotes story. She seems to have lost some of her grit in favor of a more demure, softer look. And I really wish he'd get on with book 5 instead of putting out those CG T&A mini-comics/posters. (I say this now, but I know I'll be in line for the Eros Depot book if it comes out ). Nubile, perky femmes aside, Shirow still shines with his mecha designs and layouts. I've read that he's got some spiders as pets, and their influence really shows in the Fuchikomas and battle platforms. And how could I forget about the landmates. The Guges is one awesome piece of mecha. -

IMO, the best games from Square came in the forms of Front Mission 3, Einhander, and Xenogears. Like it says in the intro, FM3 is an absoute "wargasm" .

1/48 Mig-31 Firefox
Valkyrie Hunter D replied to Valkyrie Hunter D's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
That's a damn good question, Batou. Well, there's a local mom and pop's hobby shop that has some of my stuff on display. I'm hoping they have enough space in their case for this thing. If not, it gonna make one heck of a paperweight. Not as much as I'd want it to be. -
1/48 Mig-31 Firefox
Valkyrie Hunter D replied to Valkyrie Hunter D's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
I'm glad you guys like it , I really tried to give it at least a similar look to its movie counterpart. It looks like the film used at least three models which were slightly different from each other, so getting a true movie-accurate Firefox model would be a matter of taste. Studio 2's interpretation of the Firefox is fairly close to the full scale mock-up (used in the hangar scenes) except for a couple of details. The mock-up has a well defined "spine" between the tail wings due to the upper intakes being a little bigger than the kit's. Second, the mock-up's upper intakes merge with the fuselage more abruptly than the kit does, giving the kit some elegant lines. Lastly, Studio 2 added some curves along the upper and lower parts of the cockpit area, as opposed to the mock-up's straight lines. There are some other small details which differ, but I do like what Studio 2 did with the Firefox. 91WhiskeyM6, there are only a couple of places I know of online that carries this kit: http://www.monstersinmotion.com/ships/indexf.html and http://www.comet-miniatures.com/search.php...a&s_for=firefox Comet Miniatures is in the U.K. though. Both these shops also carry the 1/72 version. This kit resembles the model used during some of the flight scenes. Firefox tidbits: The story of Gant's theft of the Firefox is continued in the novel Firefox Down, also by Craig Thomas. Wanna see the Firefox in videogames? A loong time ago the movie had its own laserdisc game but it was nothing more than movie clips mixed in with a shooter on rails. Track down the old Neo-Geo shooter Aero Fighters, and during the Russia stage a formidable boss will greet you. The most notable cameo of the Firefox in a game is in the SNES title, U.N. Squadron. Renamed the F-20 Efreet , the Firefox is the most expensive plane you can buy. -
