AT last she has been found!
the white drew carey replied to mustang1's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Meh... there have been about 30 "missing links" found in the past decade or so. It's really a media phrase and biologists don't really like to use it, since it implies a single key that puts everything in it's place. She is an interesting find for both evolutionary biology, as well as archeology in general (since it she so well preserved). Cool, but just one more step in understanding human history and not a smoking gun. -

Your topic is phrased as a question but ends as an exclamatory statement, I am confused! -
Best Science FACT movie of all time??
the white drew carey replied to taksraven's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
I don't know, the problem with that, and An Inconvenient Truth is that they are highly skewed to a certain perspective, selectively choosing facts that fit their viewpoint. Vostook, snow in may is not unusual with this phenomenon. It's not really "warming" per se, but a shifting of existing weather patterns due to changes in the composition of the Earth's atmosphere. Whether or not you think it is man-made, that is what's going on right now. You may be getting snow in May, but Florida is experiencing a severe drought, seeing about as much rain in the last 6 months as they used to in a single month. (Man, hanging out with climatologists really rubs off on you...) -

10,000 BC is a favorite of anthropologists. -
Eat yourself. Nowhere in that article does it specifically state that "Super-class Star Destroyer" was the name used a s a red herring. Furthermore, the information is suspect because 1) It is EU, which typically = crap, and 2) The specific article from which this information is derived was written for a magazine by some dudes trying to justify information on a tabletop RPG, 3) It's Wookiepedia, a Star Wars-specific wiki, and all wikis are inherently unreliable. Hardly official. Super Star Destroyer. p.s.- Sorry about the baklava. Man, that stuff is good.

Sez who? Neither www.starwars.com, nor the dreaded Wikipedia mention this information. So... request denied. Super Star Destroyer.

I don't know if I like this one, or if it creeps me out. There is a "glow" coming out of a certain area.

Bubblegum Crisis to Go Live-Action

If done right, a live action BBC could be cool. If done right is the hard part, though... -
New Star Trek Movie In 2009..
the white drew carey replied to bandit29's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Nah... I think that one is true. I remember reading/hearing about that years and years ago, before Wikis, at least. I'll see if I can dig up my copy of the Nitpicker's Guide to see if its in there. -

Hi-Def and Home Theater Thread 2

There has been stuff afterwards (the xxxx parts), but it usually indicates the resolution. I first heard of these Samsung models by googling 'multisystem lcd tv'. So as to whether they are new or not, you're guess is probably much better than mine.- 376 replies

Hi-Def and Home Theater Thread 2
the white drew carey replied to mikeszekely's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Thanks for the info. I don't really care too much about built-in media capability, but considering France is SECAM, I do want a multi-tuner capability. I've seen Samsung LA-40A and LA-32A LCDs which are touted as multi-system units, but haven't found any credible reviews yet. Any thoughts?- 376 replies

Hi-Def and Home Theater Thread 2
the white drew carey replied to mikeszekely's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
I'm hoping of keeping at least the 32" size. Size isn't realy an issue because we're having our stuff shipped to us or, if I buy it over there, shipped to the states in 2-3 years.- 376 replies

Hi-Def and Home Theater Thread 2
the white drew carey replied to mikeszekely's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
In preparation for our move to France, I've been looking into picking up a multisystem LCD that I can either take with, or pick up there and bring back. Anyone use/have one of these, and are there any recommendations?- 376 replies

I'm excited. Sam Rockwell is a kick, and could this be the spiritual successor to Christmas on Mars?

Are those the same things as the old Micro Machines Star Trek toys? You're description of which parts are plastic/die cast seems similar, IIRC. -

Valkyria Chronicles : The Gallian Front
the white drew carey replied to wolfx's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
OK, so I finally got to watch the 1st ep. Good stuff! I still don't like the character designs, and I feel that the way they are trying to integrate the "hand drawn/sketched" shading is pretty awful. Still, so far I've been able to overlook it. I like how members of Squad 7 are showing up earlier, and how their potentials (positive or negative) are used well to define the characters. I'm excited for more! -
Why yes, yes I have. I got the blu-ray set for Christmas and begged my wife to let me at least watch the first episode. She got so hooked we ended up watching the whole thing. The ending is a bit too abrupt and cliche, but its still pretty damn fun. We made a drinking game where you drank whenever Cup Noodles were on the screen, and chugged when someone holds up the cup noodles like a chalice or something. Awesome.
