Well, to be fair, Hatch was saying lots of things because he was disgruntled that his vision of a new BSG that he was shopping around at the time didn't get picked up.

Upon reflection, I think I am going to redo Sheryl and Alto. I think I have a much better idea.

And now Alto. I had a hard time with him, because he's just so droll. I finally decided that I wanted him to be be the most static part of the image and yet I'm still not sure if I like how he turned out, or if I will redraw him. I definitely wanted him to have the paper airplane in hand, though.

OK, so I've got Sheryl and Alto done. First, we'll take a look at Sheryl. While Ranka is cute and innocent, I wanted Sheryl to really be slurmting it up. In the show, it seems that she's not happy unless she's showing off her assets and trying to be as sexy as possible (kind of like real divas). With that in mind, she's really thrusting out her chest and she has that smug look of confidence from the early part of the series.

I do have a Grace idea, but it is truly only at a conceptual stage. I'll keep you informed.

I totally get the Orguss vibe from the chest, but that's about it. I keep thinking of a Boomer from BGC.

I am working on new Macross Frontier fan art. Progress reports linky here at this thread.

OK, so I just finished Macross Frontier (the last year and a half was very busy for me and I got waaay behind). Of course, now I must do fan art! I'm thinking of a piece with the usual three: Alto, Sheryl, and Ranka. As part of my "I haven't been drawing enough for the past few years and it's time to get back in the groove, as well as learn new techniques" regime, I am doing something a little different than what you may be used to this time around. Gone are the heavy-handed lines and ink shading. I want this one to look as much like an animation cel as a I can. With that in mind, the inked drawings for the initial design will be very basic, and I am going to relearn and practice new coloring techniques in Photoshop (as soon as my iMac shows up from the states, Photoshop keeps crashing with big files on my old Dell Inspiron 710m laptop). I am also going to work on some more dramatic poses. After looking at my Macross art over the past several years, I realize that my characters seem pretty flat. However, I like to share and I know that you guys like to look. With that being said, I present to you the first part (very, very basic): Ranka Lee

I can see some of it. The crotch is the area right behind the cockpit, the area above the intakes (with the two thingamabobs) end up at the ankles, and the hips appear to be at the joint of of the last half of the wing and the fuselage. If I had to guess, the legs are reversed from what we normally expect. The intakes become the feet and the exhaust is joined at the hip. It looks really good and, just like the others, I am terribly curious as to the transformation. If I could give one piece of advice, it seems to me that your focus is to make the Battroid version look cool with a lot of neat-o detail that doesn't really mesh well with the fighter mode. Sometimes the coolest thing is not the greeblies, but just how everything really looks like it belongs somewhere else.

I agree. If the van shows up in its original form and lasts the entire film (ie- doesn't get blown up and rebuilt into a brand-new hybrid SUV), then I will be happy.

Although I understand that there is a definite separation between those who want to know about the Hikaru/Misa/Minmay disappearance and those who want to leave it be, I still think a cool story would be about some sort of search and rescue mission that was sent out after them once they lost contact. This ship and crew could have it's own adventure without actually finding them. A story such as this could easily easily build into the overall mythos of the Protoculture and whatnot.

OK, so I haven't done any of these in a looong time (for that matter, I haven't really drawn much in a while, period). Plus, I am not working in ideal conditions (no scanner, using Photoshop CS4 on a Windows laptop instead of my iMac, etc.). Ive never played this series, but keep meaning to. Would it be recommended to play them in order of release, or chronological order of the storyline?

The specs say it holds 5 gallons, with a 10 gallon/hour consumption rate, so about 30 minutes. But that's give or take on usage, probably. Also, the specs do state that the 5 gallons is the FAA maximum to fall into the unlicensed ultralight category. So, once again, if they decided to have a beefier version, it might come with a bigger gas tank.
