Yeah, that movie blows chunks. The acting stinks, which is OK. The plot, while interesting, is so marred by the rest of the film that it's not salvageable. The costumes and sets look more like a mid-80's Mad Max rip-off then 1996, by which time even 'B' movies are able to obtain some sense of decor through sheer wil. But all of that's expected in a 'B' movie. And that's OK. What really ruins it is the fact that the fight scenes are piss-poor. Why? The hands of an incomptent director killed any chance for this movie to be entertaining. Even the lowest-budget film can be redeemed with skilled directing and, above all, cinematography. Sadly, this movie lacks those two key ingredients. Many people enjoy this movie. I'm just not one of them.

Large Reactive Missiles

I think the difference is that most, if not all, of the Advanced Valkyrie designs are considered canon. A number of them appear in the Macross M3 game which is included in the Macross chronology. I was just tossing out my reasoning on why I think Kawamori had a direct hand in the VF-1SOL design and why I also think that it's not in MDW. Secondly, ewilen- Calm down. Short sentences, all questions, in quick succession gives the impression that you're getting riled up or something. Take breather, relax... Think of Hugh Downs nekkid. Mmmm...

Agent One- The problem here is that when most people hear the word comic book, they think of cheesy stuff like Fantastic Four, X-Men and The Hulk (hmm... all Marvel stuff). In reality, there are many great comics out there that aren't superhero junk and tell a great/fun/hilarious/thought-provoking story. Hellboy is one of them. It's just sooo much fun. I think the casting is great, and I'll definitely see the movie, but I'm going in with the expectation that it could be screwed up on film. Here's to hoping that it's not!!! (tips a guinness... passes out on wife)

Aegis- I'm curious if we played different versions of the game? On the ROM I played, the credits at the end were all in english, but there weren't any specific credit mentions such as you've described. For example, there were like 10-15 people listed under the generic heading of "Graphics", or something like that. Too bad I didn't do a screen grab of those credits. Stupid me! Anyhow, although there is ambiguity to Kawamori's credit, I personally believe that he did design the VF-1SOL for the game. Aside from the "Sound Force"-type weapon, many features in the physical design of the VF-1SOL are immediately evident in Kawamori designs made after the game came out in 1993, up to and including Macross: Zero. As to why it didn't appear in MDW? Just as you stated earlier, it's probably due to the fact that the VF-1SOL is not in Macross canon. Who knows? It's a mystery for the ages.

Surprisingly, that's probably something that would result in a favorable ruling for Mattel. What saved this guy's ass was his assertion that he was making a statement on society. If he just said he wanted to put Barbie in screwed up situations for the hell of it, he would've lost. -
Ouch!!! That's one of the harshest comments yet! But Taken wasn't bad...

THE UN-OFFICIAL COLOR SCHEME THREAD
the white drew carey replied to the white drew carey's topic in Hall Of The Super Topics
My bro-in-law finally was able to grab all of the files from my old hard drive (it was a PC, it crashed a lot and then died... normal PC behavior) and a lot of my artwork I thought was lost has now been found again. Included was the first color scheme I ever did, probably around late 2001/early 2002. The idea was to use WWII paintschemes on VF-1's. This one was based on an Me-109. It really stinks compared to what can be accomplished now, but for nostalgia value, it's still pretty cool. -
During the credits it lists Kawamori as "Original Valkyrie Designer", but it doesn't specify as to whether or not that means he designed the original Valk for the game, or just valks in general. My favorite part has to be when you fight the final boss in his first version: Starchild from 2001: A Space Oddysey.
-
That´s what makes this valk even more interesting , it certainly was designed by Kawamori , just like the VF-1/SDP-1 Stampede Valkyrie which is never featured in any Macross production yet it´s still included in the Macross Design works. Both valks were designed by the same man , neither of the two were ever featured in a Macross production and yet the Stampede appears in MDW unlike the VF-SOL which pretty much serves the same function. The SDP-1 does appear in a Macross production. It's either Macross: Remember Me or Macross: Skull Leader... But I can't remember which.

Your best option is to find a video store that rents anime. Chances are they'll have it. That way, if you rent it, you might not feel so bad about it. As to the mech designs- To each is own. IMHO, designs from Gundam have run the gamut from good to bad. Contributing to the mecha genre some of the best designs ever to some of the worst designs ever.

Oh... I did. -
IMHO, it's strictly for the completist. The Gundam design is bad and the cast is even worse. A live action Gundam could be good, but this wasn't. I still see it at Best Buy and Suncoast quite often.

Yeah, yeah, yeah... I know the canopies in Macross are "curiously strong" (I chalk it up to anime magic more than anything else)... But I hope you get the point I was making in reference to sensor-obtained information replacing the old eyeballing.
-
I think that was always the intention. I believe that Star Wars was never meant to be technically accurate, but more visually appealing. But there's another dynamic going on here- Surprisingly enough, my father, my niece's godfather and myself were discussing this very matter and the fact that the more technically advanced fighters become, the less pilot's will rely on an actual field of vision and will rely more on artificially obtained information in the operation of the vehicle. In Macross, the fighter modes have highly vulnerable canopies simply because Kawamori is paying homage to modern and recent aircraft. Realistically, if the pilot is able to operate the VF in battriod mode via viewscreens while being protected by armor, it's simply silly to assume that he shouldn't be able to pilot the VF in fighter mode in the same manner but is needlessly exposed due to a prerequisite need for a glass/clear canopy. Just a thought.

THE UN-OFFICIAL COLOR SCHEME THREAD

Damn good work, Hellohikaru!!! Just to spite you, I'm going to criticize something (also because I'm jealous that the student has surpassed the master [so to say]): Your "CVN-66 America" marking should be altered using distort and perspective to make it seem more like it is a marking on the rounded section. -
Hmm... I just got to read what Jemstone had to show us and I think DR needs to be booted. He's an immature child who's strongest defense is to create imaginary foibles, attach them to others and then attempt to ridicule, insult and humiliate them based on the very illusions he's concocted. It's as bad as "yo mama" jokes. DR- You want to hear insults? You are a wretched little bastard who has no tact and, in all probability, shall never attain any level of actual respectability. Although you may go far in life, there will still be that hollow core in your being that wishes and hopes for some sort of justification. Sadly, you will be denied that. You can dress a donkey up like a horse, but he's still an ass. Grow up and stop thinking that generic insults of the most base nature actually hurt people. I've had minor tiff's with Jemstone before, but at least we were civil about it. And that's why I respect Jemstone as a member of MW and a person. Something which you've lost completely.

JustVinnie summed up matters best. I may disagree with the Mods, but I still love them. It's almost painful how much. Mmmmm... DR- Seriously. Chill. You are not helping yourself one bit with your comments. I, myself, have never had any problems with you in the past but your actions in this thread have caused me to re-analyze my opinion of you and it's not looking good at the moment. Back off and relax. Simply put, this is a fight you cannot win, and losing will not reward you with an honorable demise.

Until recently, none of the mod team got those messages. Now that we have our full powers back again we get those messages. In other words we never receive your Report this post report from three months ago. You're kidding, right? Probably not. Since this is a fairly new board, it seems that a lot of the functions and controls needed to be ironed out. For a while there the Mods lost their near God-like powers, and had to wait until the Masters of the Universe (He-Shawn and She-Graham) re-infused them with limited Sith abilities.

Are you in the Military or did you join?
the white drew carey replied to DatterBoy's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
No. I can't remember at all. I know I sucked at the mechanics part. But my recruiter almost creamed his pants when he told me my scores. -
I'll have to agree that Max can be an ass sometimes but this situation isn't one of them. Many people here seem to think that the only purpose of the Mods is to moderate, which is completely wrong. First and foremost, they are Macross fans who have proven their worth to the Admins and have volunteered their time in order to try to make MW run smoother. If you don't like the job that Max is doing, prove your value and try to convince the Admins and other Mods that you yourself are Mod material. Don't start fights with the Mod who mod'd you. I know I disagree with many of Max's moderating decisions and think that there are a lot of times where he locks threads more on personal whim than any sense of rules or guidelines, but overall he is just doing what he thinks is best for MW. And that's something I can always get behind.

Not legally. But, hey- Since Toynami seems to think it's OK to steal other people's designs for their toys, why shouldn't we steal them back?
