  1. I've had a bit or a "reccie" on the subject. So to play import PS2 games like ACE I would need a modded PS2. And to play import PS1 games like VFX I would need a PS2 and the "Breaker" software since the mod chips don't cover that. Does that sound right?
  2. Has Mari been in a lot of car crashes? I've only been in 2 in 40 years! I hope she can make the concert.
  3. Well, no Fry's electronics in Canada, but I'll have a look around. Breaker Pro might be an option - if I can find a place that actually sells it. Finding a PS1 shouldn't be too hard.
  4. Okay - I want to play VFX and VFX2 - what are my options? Do I need a Japanese PS2 or can I get a modded one that plays American and Japanese games? Can I use an emulator on my PC? Any advice would be appreciated.
  5. Okay, I've looked into it. Original MZ23 I Garland, while described as a prototype is simple called the "Garland". The military in MZ23 I also has a bike/mecha called the Hargun and their own Garlands in green. The MZ23 II "hero" Garland is the rebuilt "GR-00X Prototype Garland" - a second improved prototype. The military "hover" variant I was referring to is the GR-002A pictured below. Since it has no wheels it would require a custom base in vehicle mode. I bought the original Garland. Forewarned by this thread I carefully loosened the shoulder screws before I first transformed it. It's not as crappy as the Escaflowne but not nearly as well designed as the old VF-1.
  6. Okay. Somebody clue me in. I thought the Red MZ23 Part 1 Garland WAS the Prototype Garland. If they were going to do more variants they should do the military jet version w/o wheels.
  7. Very nice work, Lorn. I have not had mine out in years, but if I remember right, you have actually created a bridge/head with better proportion and detail than the original model/toy. It will interesting to see how you paint it since the colors in the tv series change just about every time you see the SDf-1!
  8. I'd go even further. All aliens in SF are some aspect of us. Especially in space opera, alien races tend to be allegories or archetypes. The TOS Klingons for example could be thought of as the cold war era Soviets. The TNG Klingons are perhaps more like the Japanese - a mixture of Bushido and ambition.
  9. I saw it yesterday with my kid and I wasn't really impressed. It wasn't nearly as fun a kids/family movie as Cars and it had nothing like the excitement of The Incredibles. Despite it being about a talking rat who likes to cook, you have to accept an even more bizarre premise about the rat's partnership with the wannabe cook That was just too off the wall for me. And it just wasn't that funny. Wacky rodents being chased around? We've all seen Chips & Dale (Disney) and the unfailingly polite Goofy Gophers (WB), a million times, right? There was very little in the movie that really couldn't have been done live action with cgi characters (for example Garfield or the upcoming Underdog) I suppose after the Incredibles - which I consider the best superhero movie ever made - and Cars - the favorite family movie of my son's young life - I had higher expectations for Pixar. It's interesting that the "New Disney" regime is basically the old Pixar. I suppose the two camps will have to meet somewhere in the middle. A good thing for Disney but it means the Pixar energy will be watered down with the Disney mediocrity.
  10. I think it's too far to go for too little return. I like MacII but I don't think there is any commercial reason to revisit it. Besides, all they have to do make it canon is say "it's canon". The only concrete reason it's not canon is SK didn't work on it and doesn't want to acknowledge it. I don't think a complete reboot is a commercial winner either. I can see an updated retelling of the SDF but we've been there before with DYRL. I'd like to see something with less SK, a coherent plot, and more lingering views of mecha.
  11. It's taken a couple weeks but I've had a chance now to watch Dynamite 7. I'm really not sure what to think of it yet. I found most of the space scenes so short and frantic I couldn't tell what was going on. Obviously they are trying to present some kind of profound environmental message - but I didn't get it the first time through. And then there is this sub-plot about Mylene being seduced and drugged by a woman. And it's played for laughs. I know Japan is a distinct culture but is drugging and raping a minor really taken that lightly? What would have been the consequences for that woman. I can't help but remember Miria crushing that Zentran's head in DYRL. And at the end Basara flys right by Mylene and folds out. I know Basara is the brooding idealist and we're not supposed to fully understand him. But then Gamlin does the same - ignoring Mylene. So what does that mean? Gamlin's in love with Basara now? On the other hand I liked the music. The Basara version of Angel Voice was quite moving. Even if I didn't understand WTF was going on with the whales. Having "Seen it All" now (at least the TV series - I haven't played the video games), I have to say all the series have their good points and weaknesses.
  12. I kinda liked it. There were many elements in the movie that are are right out of the comics. Doom wanting to get the Surfer's "Power Cosmic" for one. Johnny and Ben stressing about Red and Sue getting married and potentially breaking up the team for another. I wish Galactus had not been a cloud - at least he could have been a giant Kirby-esque machine or something. Maybe inside the cloud he was the purple giant we all know and fear. If there is a Silver Surfer movie maybe we'll find out.
  13. Maybe not but the Zentraedi Nupetiet-Vergnitzs underwent a minor transformation to fire their "big guns" - at least in DYRL. I honestly don't mind a transforming ship. If you want to start questioning the rationale behind military vehicles turning into giant humanoid robots maybe Macross is not for you....
  14. Even if you've never see The Omega Man, we've all seen The HΩmega Man in the Simpsons Treehouse of Horror VIII, right?
  15. Who doesn't feel happiness when they eat a potato? Potatoes are happiness itself!
  16. Ladies and Gentlemen. Nekki Basara sings "MACROSS"
  17. Then I guess most of us agree and my Anime Sky Scraper subtitles can take a leap. Ivana was a female possessed by a male entity. Mylene has the Anima Spiritia potential though not as developed as Basara. Viffedas and Ray also manage to generate a Spiritua shell to protect a ship in the finale so I'd have to say they also have the Anima potential. And Exedol. I'm aware of how tall he's supposed to be. But when he's being carried by the copters in #37 "Mystery of the Ruins" he looks 3-4 Valkyries tall. (Crappy frame grab attached) I understand now why M7 has it's fans but I can also appreciate how difficult it is to "get into it" for fans of SDF. It's different in tone and focus. I think it's worth the time but others are free to disagree. Thanks for answering my questions.
  18. Lookin great. I wish I'd been into Macross7 when these were reissued. I've been looking for them for awhile and not seeing anything I get delivered for under $90.
  19. But what most of us didn't like was the erratic story and lack of resolution. There was nothing wrong with the character or mecha designs and very little to complain about the mostly excellent animation. The Macross producers have the static design stuff down pat. If they hire decent animators that's covered. It's the story telling choices they make that fark it up as far as I'm concerned (SK I'm looking right at you...). The fact that the Macross OAV's were not very successful in Japan confirms my belief that J-fans want story too, just like me.
  20. I justed watched that bit - she threw them up in the air while he flew overhead in a hang glider. He caught them and them set them aside to pilot his Valkyrie. I just finished watching the series. What a long strange trip it's been, too. Not as bad as I thought. It at has some internal consistency at least and has a beginning, a middle, and a resolution that makes some kind of sense - unlike MacII, Mac+ and MacZero
  21. The reason I asked is that Mylene (with the Chiba Booster) can generate the glowies that transmit energy at/to/against others. As far as I have seen only she and Basara can do that. And retroactively, yes Minmei may also have had Anima Spiritua potential. Although (in MacII continutity) the UN Spacy held off the Zentraedi for 80 years with just a recording of Minmei. That would argue that her success was mostly due to the "culture" effect. I like Mac7 more than I thought. In some ways it warps continuity and raises most questions that MacII. And I still don't understand MacZero!
  22. Okay first of all I'm not interested in hearing "Macross 7 Suxor". You are entitled to you opinion but I don't see how those kind of posts contribute anything useful. I too used to think Mac7 was not for me but desperate for "new" Macross I sat down to try and watch it again. This was my third time and I had read up a bit on the background. Despite dodgy sub-titles I actually began to get into the story and the characters. It's trying to put forth a metaphysical message about the power of music or art or self knowledge or something deep. I'm not certain is succeeded but it is attempting to say something. I'm nearing the end of the series but I do have some questions. In "Mysterious Ruins" Basara, Sivil and Gigil take off on some tour of the universe but in the next episode Basara is back with Mylene and Gamlin. Is something skipped here or are my subtitles failing to tell me they returned to planet Lux or Rax or whatever it's called? Another question arising from "Ruins". Just how frigging tall is Exodol? Warrior Zentrans in SDF were about as big as a Valkyrie. Exedol always appeared short for a Zentran yet in "Ruins" be seem to be 3-4 Valkyies high! More "Anime Magic" at work I suppose. Another one - is Gelpnich's host supposed to be male? I think the subtitle's are off here too. The Varautu survivor guy recognizes the host but the subs have him calling the host a him. Lastly, is Mylene also an Anima Spiritia like Basara?
  23. I gotta agree. Too many things happening and none off them really pay off big. SPOILERS The Donkey - Puss switch amounts to nothing beyond the moment mentioned above. Arthur and Merlin? Same. Princess Super Team? A couple good moments but in the end not much. Shrek at sea? Surely something funny there - no? There is a weird viking/sea captain character but he's barely noticeable. And it's about FarFarAway - again. Who is running things in DuLac nowadays?
  24. I wasn't going to re-start the reactor debate but let me throw this out. Maybe the overtech reactors were copied and installed merely as power sources without realizing there potential as anti-gravity generators. Their anti-gravity properties were only manifested when Sara or the Aiphos stimulated them. Or maybe they just happen to look like the AG on the Macross.
  25. Speaking of Destroids, I just had a funky idea. This probably is not practice for weight and balance reasons but if you put a sheet of steel on the deck you could park the Destroids wherever you like by sticking rare earth magnets in their feet. Maybe a more practice way would be to have the magnets embedded in the decks and elevators at strategic locales and matching magnets in the feet of Destroids.
