  1. The 1/100 Hi-Metal R line works out great for me. I agree, for what you get, they're not that cheap, BUT they are substantially cheaper than 1/60s. And right now is the time to start, since it's early on in the HMR game (no ridiculous catching up to do). If everything goes as planned, looks like they'll make a great, complete collection – especially with all the enemy mecha, Destroids, etc coming out. All to scale, all affordable – even if you do have to pay "premium" price from time to time. Crossing my fingers that all of 'em will get released. I currently have the released ones, and pre-ordered the ones that are releasing in the near future. Super excited. The 1/60s (V2), though beautiful to look at, were just too expensive (for me). They are the ultimate Macross product, but the 1/100 HMR feel better in the hand. You don't get all nervous around them. They feel more like toys, yet keep the "model" aesthetic. Generally, they look just as good as the 1/60s (in some cases, better). No worries about stickers, etc. They look good as is with the tempo printing they give ya. It'll be nice to have a common scale Macross collection and it looks like the HMR line might be the closest we'll ever get, especially if you don't have a whole lot of money to throw around. But hey, you gotta do what's best for you (in other words, sell your 1/60s before they yellow, buy the HMR line and have some extra cash in your pocket! left over... Filipino-style!!!)... jk
  2. Thanks. Noticed images sharper, less grain, less yellow (color corrected for the better!). Now, all they have to do is add some english subtitles and we're home free. I mean, somewhere on Harmony Gold's contract, where the f--k did it say "Japan can't release Blu-rays with English subtitles".... enough already! Guess I won't buy it and wait for some fan-subbed "bootleg" to hit the underground market.
  3. Its been over 7 years and now I'm back for PART 14: I'm surprised the photos are still up, which is why it pays to host them at cityonfire.com. This set of visuals are kinda random, but it's mostly the same song 'n dance of "Robotech" merchandise. I remember seeing this ad circa 1980/1990.... it came straight to my mail box (I was on their mailing list). I was very tempted to "borrow" my mom's credit card and order this from the Pony Toy Go-Round. But I was a good boy. If I can turn back time... Final wave of Matchbox Robotech items. At this point, they started making their own crappy designs, instead of re-branding the good stuff from Japan. This one is very special. I was practically drooling... Sadly, all I was able to afford were the 3 1/2 ones (and I still didn't order 'em) More Matchbox ads. $24.95 for that Valk. Damn! Gotta love the Comico company. I guess T-shirt prices were always around the $15-$20 range. 65 new episodes, huh? I'm sure Robotech Wars was just edited action footage from the series. Not much has changed for Reba West. She's still making appearances like this. Toy store mid-80s.... Again...

    Hi-Metal R

No problem. Price aside, was just trying to help out in some active pre-orders. I know the place is at least legit. I never heard of them until I found a youtube video of a toy reviewer who plugged the company.
  5. Bought/pre-ordered every single Hi-Metal R Macross toy available.

    Hi-Metal R

They still have pre-orders up for Regults at both Yesasia and Motor City Toys.
  7. Hopefully there's a possibility they made the "upper legs" bigger for the final product. Doubt it though.
  8. Pre-ordered as well. If it ends up sucking, I can always re-sell and get my money back (plus profit)...

    Hi-Metal R

Cheers. Yeah, Macross keeps me coming back. I get in, and out, of it every time. Obsessions always come back to haunt me. Something about this stuff that can't be ignored. These valks are like drugs. Pre-ordered. I think you're doing a flawless job. Keep it up.
  10. Thanks for posting this article. Very VERY interesting. If this guy isn't involved, not sure if I'd be interested. If the two Yune brothers are going to have a say, then, uh, I dunno...

    Hi-Metal R

It's just a play on how long it has been since I've been on his site. His youtube vids are much better. Sometimes he has female models doing transformations.

    Hi-Metal R

That totally explained it. Excellent read on the link F360 provided. I swear, I haven't visited your site since 1964! But have been keeping a close watch on most of your videos.

    Hi-Metal R

F360.... thanks for the info. I should have known better to check out Anymoon first, but I've been paying closer attention to his youtube channel than his website lately. That Hi-Metal R VF-1S looks VERY gray... I'm assuming it's just the way the photography is.

    Hi-Metal R

Cool, so no need to pay high dollar for the previous "Hi Metal" Roy. If anyone can still answer those others questions... cheers.

    Hi-Metal R

I've been so out of the loop.... can someone fill me in? So what's the difference between the Hi-Metal R and the original Hi-Metal line? Correct me if I'm wrong: the only Hi-Metal R's that have been released so far are the VF-1S Strike Valkyrie (Red/Black) and VF-1J Armored Valkyrie? Do the two above have the same plastic color (off white/grayish)? Is a Hi-Metal VF-1S (Black/Yellow) coming out soon? Thanks so much in advance. I've done research on the net, but I still want someone from this forum to clarify for me. Appreciate your replies in advance.
  16. =D http://www.cityonfire.com/the-robotech-saga-continues-with-love-live-alive-dvd/ So i take it, this was 1985's Genesis Climber Mospeada: Love Live Alive dubbed into the world of Robotech... interesting.
  17. My thoughts exactly. Especially when it's not even Subtitled.
  18. I think Macross fans will get a kick out of this: Check out the plot. It involves piloted-giant robots fighting alien forces, supposedly the size of monsters like Godzilla. http://www.cityonfir...new-sci-fi-pic/ In other live-action Japanese Robot news, check out the trailer to a Hong Kong film called Let's Go: (trailer at link below) http://www.cityonfir...g-kong-blu-ray/ EDIT: Mods, sorry, I meant to post this in "Anime or Science Fiction" please move. Thanks!
  19. Need some non-color lights in there. Otherwise, not bad.
  20. Yeah, you figured the webmaster at robotech.com would login and make a simple 2 second update. Waiting as well.
  21. I remember this thing. Yeah, 1985 they were in and around stores. I never bought it. I remember it being pricey and... well... look at it. lol boxy and terrible looking. It IS what it is. Literally. Nice find though. A for sure collector's item.
  22. I agree. Most of the knock off packaging from the 80's looked 10,000 times better than these. Slap some damn anime on there (ie Bandai). How to make Yamato box art: 1) Type in Space Background in stockphotos.com 2) Mask out toy photo 3) Pick a generic serif font, bold it, then apply a embroid-type filter and stroke to it 4) Put random starbursts in and around the picture ATTENTION ALL GRAPHIC DESIGNERS: Yamato is hiring graphic designers. Must own your own copy of photoshop and a powermac. We'll pay you $13 an hour! And 10% off all product (excluding exclusives). Japan residents only please.
  23. Same here. Heck, most of the time when you're watching the movie/TV show - the stuff doesn't match the line art; and it all looks better or worse, depending on the angles, etc. etc. etc. As long as the final product looks good, I'm happy. With the "almost" TV version of the SDF, I could totally bend for; especially since Yamato is actually doing a slightly different version to make us happy.
