LIVE ACTION ROBOTECH (WB gets the rights)
fifbeat replied to UN Spacy's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
I'm not expecting the second coming of Star Wars. I can only hope it's a good movie. But I'm not knocking the idea, that's for sure. Robotech isn't a knock off. It's Macross dubbed in english and edited for the American TV network. Do you even know the definition of knock off? Now, Robotech II: The Shadow Chronicles.... that's a f'in knock off. -

True. Good point. And if history does continues to repeat itself, the Robotech movie WILL be good (see, I thought Robotech was good. Sorry. Don't lose any sleep fellas.) Iron Man... Unless you were an avid comic book reader, or an Iron Man fan, who the heck gives a crap about IRON MAN? (not the movie, but IRON MAN the character) Everyone (majority) loves Superman, Spidey and Batman characters. They're a part of our popular culture. And Iron Man isn't them or even half of one. (Iron Man fan boys don't count. Fan boys don't have a grasp on reality.) The 23 year old girl who saw Iron Man loved it for Downey's performance and because it's a good movie; and now she's gonna tell everyone else she comes across how much she enjoyed it. They'll most likely love it and they'll do the same. And this is not because she is an IRON MAN fan, it's because it's a good movie. Anything is possible. I don't care how popular or unpopular the licence or name is. That's my whole point. -

My point was that it's not gonna be based on New Generation (mospeada). And, still, it's not official. Anything can happen. =) That I doubt. The whole reason they're making or even thinking of making Robotech (or any other giant robot movie) IS Transformers. On the continued negative Robotech movie response: Remember all those IRON MAN fanboys who didn't like the fact that Robert Downey Jr. was playing him (and Jon Favreau was directing?) Look at the final product. Remember all those James Bond fanboys who thought Daniel Craig was gonna be the worse James Bond? Look at the final product. Anything is possible. And to say "don't make it, it will suck" is completely absurd. I expect more from a bunch of Macross admirers. I know Hollywood has let us down, but every once in awhile, something good comes along. And I keep on hearing this stuff about "they just want money... they just wanna cash in...they just wanna this, they just wanna that"... you think Hollywood is in business because it loves us?? It's all about money folks. Wake up. When you guys are about to ask a chick out, do you have it stuck in your minds that she's gonna say NO or be a B*TCH? Is this your attitude? Every movie you buy a ticket for, whether it's Peter Jackson or Steven Spielberg, there's a chance that it might suck... but you still buy it and you take that chance. Why not do the same here? Better yet, why don't you guys just stop watching movies. Period. If this was an official Macross product/movie (Japanese), there'd be 90% less b*tching and moaning. Ever saw Macross II or Macross 7? (yeah, I know the same people didn't exactly do these, and they're not "official" per say, but to some extent, they were closer to the real deal than, say, Spidey making a "Robotech" movie)... The fanboy is wrong. The fanboy is ALWAYS wrong. The fanboy is beneath contempt. I'm not a fanboy. I'm just a guy who digs Macross/Robotech for whatever reason. =) -

I heard from an inside source that the plot will revolve around alien giants who attack the earth in search of an alien space fortress; and it's up to TWO fighter pilots to save the human race. (I have a friend who works in the Hollywood field and has access to some database featuring movies that are currently being made/in development... no, not imdb.com, but some kind of system that is used in the industry) Not that this is "official" information or anything. But, I think it'll be more from the "macross saga" than anything else. Since the idea is from Tobey Maguire himself, this could be a good thing. What if he's a huge fan of the TV series? What if he was actually obsessed with it? What if he saw "Transformers" and thought it was crap as much as most of us on the forum did? You know, just because you haven't watched the original MACROSS or don't buy import toys doesn't mean you can't make a great movie from Robotech. I said it many times, and I'll say it again, as long as Micheal Bay and Jerry Bruckheimer's name isn't on the credits, it might be good. And what's wrong with the budget bins at Target and Wal-mart? I see films like FIRST BLOOD in there sometimes and that's a great movie!!! (but I do see your point! LOL) -
lol watched the first episode. Have you seen the whole series? I heard it has a real downbeat ending... Feels like something I can get into for sure. I'm afraid to watch it in a way... i might have to buy the toy!

I feel you. That's what Hollywood is all about. But with the right script/screenwriter and the right director, it could be good. I'd rather have them have a try at it than not do one at all. Won't change my life a bit if it sucks. -
Sweet! I think I may have to switch to the new 1/60 valks as well. =) I pray to god that the 1/60 Monster (the original, not that transforming video game thing!) will be coming available.

lol! j/k Hey, just because there hasn't been a good live action anime yet, doesn't mean it can't be done. Why give up? Actually, this one is supposed to be really good: and of course... -
Are MH toys limited release? By the way, they are coming out with another MOSPEADA... It's called ROBOTECH II: THE SHADOW CHRONICLES lol.... =) Starring Tommy Yune's hair.

I missed the whole discussion about wheels being bigger. That's great news!! This forum moves so fast I can't keep up even checking the dam thing every day. My Ray and Stick came with English instructions, Toynami sticker, but no decals.... (That's lame that they passed them out locally in Japan... WTF is up with that?) However, one of them was missing a handle bar and some peg. That blew. I think it got lost through shipping... not sure. The MH boxes aren't the most sealed enough. Especially if UPS damaged the boxes in the process. I swear, I dislike UPS. Never ever had a problem with USPS. I got mine from some toy place on amazon.com. Do a search there; there are some great toys at fantastic prices (I even saw a pop box Hikaru, new, for like $59.... with standard shipping rates) http://www.amazon.com/Macross-Hikaru-Ichij...320&sr=1-79

You see, that's a positive attitude. =) -
Are those tires bigger? Or is it the angle? They appear to be bigger than the last couple of MH ride armors. CM's version of this will look like a bright-purple Jolly Rancher. =)
-
Might grab an MH Lancer? Gakken. Beagle. CM. Pfffffffffffft............ =) You guys wanna get out of here? Talk to me.

"Nope. She signed my copy of "Macross Love Story," though." Sweet. Priceless. I see that book on ebay every once in awhile. I just lost a book called Macross Collection (black cover). Not sure if you've seen it. But it's a rare one. As for that early CD of hers, gonna see if I can find a copy! =) -
Dam, this guy is more indecisive than me! Dude, I have the perfect valk for you. It's cheap. Comes with some fast packs. It's new. It's hot...

Here is a comparison chart (all have been scaled down to similar sizes) 1. The Beagle version loses the realism and grittiness once in armor mode (mostly due to the painted chest pieces and stiff vertical chest panel). Looks like they're the only ones to follow the no-tread-on-tires to match the anime (just as Gakken did). And even though the realistic leg size does justice to it's 'rider-on-bike' mode, it suffers once transformed. It just looks like those legs are a little too scrawny. This is Japanese mecha. They're not supposed to be puney like this... (look at the others' legs on the CM/MH... nice and beefy, just the way we like 'em) In fact, these legs should be for the Hoquet version... that's what they look like. (is it me, or is she one of the most sexy anime ever?) 2. I still like the MH the best looks wise (in armor mode). It looks the most detailed. And nothing beats the transparent chests pieces (the three little colored dots) which makes a HUGE difference in realism. Even the vertical chest panel has more detail and curves. And the arms have a lot of air around them... there's just nothing stiff looking about it. (one thing that is missing from the picture, is they forgot to extend the legs... so there should be a little more detail and it should be a tad taller...). Love the detail on the white parts (arms and thighs). Maybe I'm just biased since I own the MH's. 3. The CM still looks very "cheap" to me. Screws all over the place. I don't know... never liked it. Proportion-wise, seems like they hit the target. But once we get into looks and detail, it looks like it was made in the Philippines. Even if it was the only ride armor available on the market, I'd still skip it. Looks like it should come with chewing gum or something. Anyways, I'll probably be picking up a beagle if it stays within an under $200 price range. (BTW, Thanks Tober for the explanation above.)
-
Yeah, and part of the reason the rider looks good on the bike is because, unlike the other versions, there are no large legs to get in the way of things... and though I do like the realistic feel of the legs, one of the things that always turned me onto the ride armor were the bulky legs/boots. And I didn't even notice the red on the legs til someone pointed it out. But if it is real cloth, looks like it was done for pose-ability reasons. As far tread on the tires, I don't think the anime had any... I think MH struck gold in the looks department when it came to the transparent plastic on the chest parts. I find it hard to believe that this thing will be $185 U.S. at this 1/10 scale... (of course, when this thing starts popping up on ebay, the price will rise to something like $260, plus those famous ebay shipping and handling fees).... so we're looking at around $340 or so easy. What is up with this Beagle company anyways? I've never heard of them. What other toys have they worked on? Are they of this quality? Are they planning to do the other 3 bikes? Mecha?
-
Well, darn, who is the idiot who started the $600 rumor? About $200 u.s...... im there. =) (with that said, the MH version still "looks" the best in transformed mode)
-
Was there anything wrong with the metal version? This new plastic one is like $50... Why did they decide to do this? To make it a cheaper offering?

Thank you Renato! =) This is great. You know, I know she hates this minmay crap, but buying her albums is like buying endless Minmay records. =)
