For anyone who's interested in reading about the influences of SW, I'd suggest checking out THIS page. Until somebody sits down and writes a book about it, this seems like the best source of info.

You speak as if Matsumoto somehow invented WW2. You forget there's a whole generation that grew up after WW2 and shared the same influences. Star Wars was already through its earliest stages of development by the time Yamato began airing in Japan in late '74. The first rough story outline for SW is dated May 1973. By the time the revised first draft was completed in July 1974 (3 months before Yamato would premier) the basic characters were in place including the two droids. I'd say that any similarities between R2 and Analyzer would be purely coincidental. As for Lucas and his "substantial fansub collection" I have to say that in all my e-travels to all kinds of Star Wars sites, you are the only person I've seen who has made this claim. Lucas did take inspiration from Japanese works, but you need to go back a couple more decades to the Kurosawa samurai films to find it.

Didn't something akin to a lightsaber appear in the original 30's Lensmen pulp novels?

Great moments in anime....done in MS Paint

One thing I discovered...it's tough to make Tetsuro any less appealing than he already looked in the original. -

Is that a request, or are you going to do it? I think that's his guess for Exo's piece. What..? No. No. Noooo. No. Just....no. Nobody has seen the original Ghost in the Shell? -

Awesome. Simply awesome. -
The rules are simple: use MS paint (or equivalent lame-ass program) to recreate a classic scene from anime. You are free to use any methods necessary, but I want them freehand. NO tracing.

Is anyone truly surprised that this "movie" sucked? But when you consider its dismal performance at the domestic box office, I have to say that I'm proud of all you moviegoers who stayed away from this abombination. Keep up the good work. Stay vigilant. Bloodrayne will be upon us before the end of the year.

Can someone explain this picture from Macross 7?
bsu legato replied to UN Spacy's topic in Movies and TV Series
No kidding. And it's somewhat hypocritical, too. What would Basara have to say about such belligerance? Come on Sketch (if that is your real screen-name)...turn the other cheek and listen to Basara's song, or whatever the hell it is you M7 fans do. -
Macross Live Action definitely do-able
bsu legato replied to Kamion's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
As much as I hate to say it, I'm in total agreement with Keith here. Look at how much some people bitch about DYRL and ask yourself if a 120 minute live action version would be any differrent. They can't just accept the fact that their favorite supporting characters didn't get nealy as much screen time as they did in the full series. The fact is that yes, you could do it. I'd like to see photo-realistic Derstroids as much as the next Macross fan, and I happen to think that DYRL did an excellent job of paring down 36 1/2 hour episodes into a single feature length film. But in the end it would only please those fans who liked DYRL style edits to the story. Never mind the fact that Macross is kind of a niche franchise these days, and that we'd be far more likely to see a Robotech live action movie first. -
Well on the plus side, they've lured Martin Campbell back to direct Casino Royale. Now they jsut need to find a non-wussy Bond. *cough* Eric Bana *cough*

There is that theory, yes. But then you also have Macek who claimed to have a staff of writers watching raw episodes & making up their own dialogue as they went along. I remember him saying that too. However that can easily be disproven by the fact that so much of the mundane, "non-important" dialog seems to be lifted directly from not only Macross, but Mospeada too. I think we can just chalk that up to yet another Macek-ism. You can't really take anything he says (past, present or future) at face value.

So let me get this straight. There's a direct correlation between talent and union status?

I've shot hot-but-not-maximum loads thru my dad's Ruger Super Blackhawk, and it was verging on unpleasant for both the shooter and any bystanders. But you know some people....there's always one bubba who just has to load it a bit hotter. Conversely, it could have even been a round that was loaded too light. Depending on the powder, too-light loads can have similar nasty results. -

*cough* Civillian market. *cough* And since I didn't get to post the pics of the civvy P-90 and FN-2000, here's some pics of a nasty Colt Anaconda KB. http://iris.nyit.edu/~bithead/anaconda/ -

Curse you, I was just going to post those pictures (or similar ones). Does a civvy P-90 mean that FN has loosened their sphincter about the 5.7 ammo? -
Aircraft VS super thread!
bsu legato replied to Shin Densetsu Kai 7.0's topic in Hall Of The Super Topics
That's an awfully myoptic viewpoint. There was never anything wrong with the 109 per se, it was just horribly out of date by the war's end. It, like the Stuka, was a antique 1930's design fighting a 1940's war. But remember that when the german Blitzkrieg began in '39, many of its rivals were still flying biplanes.
