Yep. The power gains people are going to make on those babies with simple bolt-ons will just be stupid. The service manager at my local SVT dealer was telling me about a previous gen Cobra they worked on, and by adding a new blower pulley, long tubes & a cat-back, and possibly a retune (I don't remember for certain) they wound up putting nearly 450 hp to the rear wheels! I kind of agree with pfunk that its somewhat a shame that Ford has to resort to blown motors, but when you see dyno figures like that its really hard to complain that loudly. But then again, they're making an honest 400+ hp out of the 5.0 "Cammer" crate motor so there's hope for naturally aspirated Ford motors after all.
-
It would take more than a simple Vortech blower to get similar performance out of a stock GT. The Cobra will be pushing 500 hp out of a blown 5.4. Its essentially a detuned version of the Ford GT motor. Pricing for the Cobra hasn't been announced yet, but the previous gen Cobra was such a screaming deal that it nearly killed off interest in the Roush, Saleen and Steeda tuner cars.

Yeah. Look at how well our reconditioning worked on Cory Holmes. No...wait...nevermind.

Thats funny....I thought that the joke was Robotech itself, and the fact that people still follow it.

Not to derail my own thread, I'd agree with that sentiment. Destiny IS shaping up to be a disappointment. Even if it somehow turns things around and has a amazing next 25 epiodes, they've still wasted the preceeding 20 odd eps with pointless nonsense. Thats as many episodes as many anime get for their entire run. So yeah, even if the remainder of Destiny is good, that'll only make it a half-good show. It'll balance out as "mediocre" in the end, if it's lucky. But the same can go for Macross 7. Some of its defenders are willing to admit that it starts off a bit weak, but "picks up" at the end. I say that's too little, too late.* I can't be bothered to endure 20-30 episodes of crap just to get to the meat and potatos of a show. My time is worth more to me than that. * I dub this the ZZ Gundam phenomenon.

http://img-nex.kongisking.net/kong/movies/...0x270-mpeg4.mov This impressed me. They have such devotion to the joke that they followed it all the way through. The fake animatics really sell it, IMO. But you know, part of me would actually get a kick out of seeing a Nazi-smashing Kong movie.

For you Gold Book owners, is there any real differences in the Regult line art between the SDF and DYRL versions?
-
True. But when you consider that both M2 and M7 are by and large the two least popular Macross spinoffs, I think its telling that M7 is hated by a 2 to 1 margin over M2. They're both the red headed stepchildren of the Macross franchise, but M7 is #1 when it comes to late night drunken beatings.
-
No seriously, what is it about M7 that makes people so retarded? I mean, we've got quotes from Mein Kampf in here, FFS!!! Usually that kind of overblown melodrama only surfaces in a Star Wars thread. Maybe this just proves the point that M7 is the most hated better than any poll could ever do. After all, I don't recall anybody quoting Pol Pot or Stalin in any Macross II thread.

Now THAT'S what a Battlestar is supposed to look like. Acres of greeblies and kit bashed parts. None of this retconned "ribbed for her pleasure" nonsense.

Star Wars Episode 3 Spoilers Thread
bsu legato replied to zeo-mare's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Not really. There's tons of book and magazine scans out there now, but I've backed off reading those sites since I want to go into the movie with at least one or two things unknown. Its only going to get worse this weekend when people start scanning the storybook, making of, and so forth. But as for actual spoilers I think we've heard them all. There won't be any "I am your father" type revelations that haven't already leaked one way or the other, especially in light of the comic and novel being already online. I think from a narrative standpoint, the biggest "spoiler" would be the fact that Anakin will *not* win his struggle against the dark side and instead joins the Sith. Of course, 99.9% of the audience already knows that but hey...what can you do? Other than that, the only thing thats really left to spoil is some of the particulars of the various fights and duels in the movie. These I'm going to stay far away from. We already know that Vader gets owned by Obi Wan at some point. I want to experience how he does it unspoiled. Edit: and of course in the time it took me to write that, new spoiler images get posted. -
The Official Aim for the Top! Gunbuster Thread
bsu legato replied to Noriko Takaya's topic in Hall Of The Super Topics
Ok, so I'm coming into this discusion a little late (about 15 years late) but I just wanted one thing clarified. The recent fansub of episode 6 was only one variation of it, and there's also a matted "widescreen" version in the works? Also, there's differences between this "renewal" version and the original version. From what I understand, the original version actually had more footage in the final scene of the earth, unlike the renewal version which has the credits over a blank screen. Am I undestanding this right? -

Oh, so you do understand the "magic" of film but why let that stop you complaining? Look, I know its a Star Wars discussion, and that means that people have to post in bold font and use tons of exclamation points!!!!!!!!!!!!11!!one with a few net-isms thrown in for good measure (OMG WTF?! ROTLF!!!!11!) but now and then it would be nice if people could just talk about SW with some calm maturity. As has been pointed out before, and which is always conveniently forgotten by the "Tiny Vader" brigade, Bob Anderson was only 6'1" when he doubled for Vader, yet he looks plenty imposing when he kicks the crap out of Luke in ESB.* And yes, according to Anderson himself his suit *was* padded, just like the Hayden suit is. So really...so what if his hands aren't as big as Prowse's meaty paws used to be? For all the faults of the PT (and I do admit there are problems with the films, don't get me wrongo) bitching about Vader's glove size is a level of nerdism that I'm just not willing to rise (or sink) to. You want to cross that bridge? Go right ahead. Just don't be surprised when we burn it down behind you. And as usual, I love how people try to deflect percieved criticism away from themselves. I simpy asked that some people try to grow up a little, and now that gets blown out of proportion to the point where I (and others like me) "can't take others not liking the new trilogy." Here's a tip for ya, Ladic. Just in case you haven't gleaned this from my other posts on this forum: I don't actually care one way or the other what you or anybody else thinks about SW. Seriously. So when somebody tells somebody else to grow up or chill out, maybe...just maybe....its not because they are "lashing out" but instead because they actually have a point! People get so emotional about this crap, it's getting to the point where its not so much funny as it is sad. But like I said in a similar thread, in two months it will all be over. For better or for worse. Then we can go back to bashing Macross 7. Finally, to answer lt.actionjackson's question, from what I've heard it was NOT Hayden in those earlier Vader promo pics. I don't know what the story is with this one though. The suit does seem to fit whomever is wearing it a bit better than those other pics. *btw, Bob Anderson is also credited as some nameless Imperial Officer in ESB. Does anyboy have a clue as to which scene he's actually in? I can't even find a decent picture of Bob online so I have no idea where to start looking. -
This would be a verrrrrry cruel April Fools joke. However, since HLJ isn't really known for pulling pranks like that I'm going to believe this is true.
-
Man I just love how Macross 7 brings out the best in so many people.

And what would they photochop? Is his armor not black & gunmetal enough? Are his lights not shiny enough? Is his saber not red enough? Jeeze, some of you kids really need to stop taking this shite so seriously. -
Where's the Macrossworld 04/01 joke?
bsu legato replied to ComicKaze's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Yikes! Thats funny and yet so disturbing at the same time. But as for the MW April 1st "joke" as you know we don't usually have one. Instead, we have a tradition of some of our newbs reading whatever ghey joke they have on RT.com, then reposting it over here as a real news item. -

So....I'm guessing you don't know much about filming then? Just because Vader looks only a bit taller than Palps in that *PROMO PICTURE* it has nothing to do with how he'll be framed in the actual friggen film! Hell, in the last trailer he looks at least a full head taller than Palps. Or do you actually believe that actors like Tom Cruise are 6'2" because they look that way on film? -

Returned to CN, "The Clone Wars" has, hmmm.
bsu legato replied to mechaninac's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Couldn't that also be interpreted as a reason to suspect that TPM's numbers are inflated. . . since it was the only thing to watch for so long? Well, yes and no. We've already covered the "fanboys" who kept going back to see the movie no matter how much they hated it, but by and large people won't see movies they dislike a second or third time. Yet somebody kept giving TPM enough repeat business to give it the BO that it had. I don't remember everythign that came out later in '99 but I do recall TPM staying in the top ten long after other movies had kicked it out of the top spot. This is contrary to the modern trend of movies opening big, then disappearing when people realize they stink. Look at AvP, which fits the scenario of a movie (some) fans wanted to like. People saw it in droves the first week, then it plummeted off the charts. Now it did do big business the first week, but based on how quickly it fell off I'd say it is fair to call it's popularity "mediocre" at best. However, another thing to consider is TPM's status as an "event" unto itself. It was the first SW movie in over a decade. I think the novelty of that alone makes it tough to really gauge its performance one way or the other. *shrugs* Man, I hate this crap. I'll leave this analysis to the marketing types. AgentONE can take it from here. -

Wait...weren't you supposed to be arguing that attendance and box office were NOT useful? But regardless, comparing the OT to the PT in that regard isn't quite useful since the market is so different than what it was like in the late 70's. Now when you compare AOTC to TPM its a more applicable but there are more factors to bear in mind before you make absolute statements. In 1999 TPM had lots of room to "breath" and nobody was willing to risk opening against it. Fast forward to 2002 and you have Sony putting Spider Man out two weeks before AOTC, and in substantially more theaters. Was AOTC's performance affected by a percieved "souring" of the audience on the whole PT thing? Perhaps, but it was also undeniably affected by Spider Man. This isn't something you can make definitive statements on one way or the other, which is why I was only willing to make general yes/no comments on how popular they were due to large attendance figures. Edit: If you're going to compare the box office for the OT to the PT, then you have to exclude all the rereleases all three of them recieved, from the '78 rerelease of ANH thru the 1997 SE's. None of the PT has had a rerelease, as that doesn't really happen much anymore. -

By how many people still enjoy the movie after the hype wears off. By its standing in the fan community? If you want to make the argument that Ep1 is popular among kids and non-fans, go right ahead. But, to a lot of people who are so easily dismissed by you, Ep1 just represented the low-point of Star Wars that began with Return of the Jedi. . . and I just don't see how Box Office numbers prove anything one way or the other. And just how would this "continued enjoyment" be measured then? Message board polls? And again you're slipping into a more qualitative argument by citing how fans percieve the films. I don't care if a scientific poll on TFN shows that Phantom Menace is the worst film in the history of celuloid. That does nothing to refute the fact that TPM owned the summer of '99. If fans saw it repeatedly in spite of not actually liking it, then I'd argue that they still contributed to its popularity in spite of themselves. If you want to state that TPM was divisive in the fan community, that's fine. But to state that it wasn't popular is just silly. Popular opinion may shift somewhat, but don't use that to rewrite history to "prove" that the films weren't popular. Even Fox seems to have enough faith in the PT that they make an "event" out of their TV airings, and run them against other ratings juggernauts. And a films standing in the fan community is not exactly the best way to go about showing how popular or unpopular something may be. They're fanatics after all, and can hardly be called unbiased. I'm sure any given segment of the posters on theonering.net would gladly tell us how "world changing" the release of the LOTR films were. Hell, I'll bet there's even a few die hard Trekkies that are still trying to put a positive spin on the disaster of Nemesis. -
Oh and since I created the darn poll, I should give my own opinion. While I'm not a fan of Macross II, my dislike for it pales in comparison to the seething hatred I harbor for M7. But I think its the fact that M7 is the "official" sequel that really seals the deal for me. An SDF sequel should have had so much promise, but instead we get drowned in crappy J-pop and characters that are downright evangelical in their preachyness. Blech. I'll always hate you the most, Macross 7.
