Back when I actually read some of the SW board, I followed some links to various articles on Salon. Brin in particular has long hated SW, long before the PT. There was one article when he tore a strip off of the OT, up one side and down the other. He even takes issue with the concept of "the force" itself! (Brin is more of a Technophile, and won't contennance any mystical McGuffins) But he didn't stop there. He went on to make some rather over-the-top personal attacks on Lucas himself, which I thought was a tad unbecoming for a fellow genre writer. But in his mind, I'm sure that he hardly sees Lucas as anything resembling a "peer." Hey...that's something you'd have in common with Brin! You never seem to have a problem dismissing anything remotely pro-PT. Pot...kettle...? But hey, if you want to quote some particulars from Brin's articles then go right ahead. As objectionable as you may seem, you're not half as argumentitive and condescending as Brin is in his rebuttals to SW fans (gleefully reposted on his web site for all to see).

Its part of the "Never give up, never think things through" aspect of fandom. Lets pray these people won't reproduce.

Salon in general, and David Brin in particular, have long been rabidly Anti-Lucas for years. I can't see that article being any more enlightening than watching monkeys fling their own feces at each other. This is a prime example of Hurins "bias in the media" thesis.

You only say that because you're a Filthy Luca$ Apologistâ„¢.

Ouch! Point for Hurin.

Best Movie Badguy of all time?

But was Kong really the "bad guy" in that movie? -
That's 'cause y'all talk so durn funny. And whats with that blood pudding? Seriously...that's just disgusting.

I hear what you're saying, Sundown. I just think that in terms of characters and their relationships Lucas has always tended to paint in broad strokes. For example, look at Lando. He goes from despised traitor to valued team member in the space of minutes. Heck, by Jedi you'd think he'd been part of the gang all along. I tend to look at the Ani/Obi relationship in AOTC in the same light. They just establish that there's a friendship thats strained both by the short leash Obi Wan has his apprentice on and Anakin's ambition, then they move onto the real story of seperatists, plots and stupid teenage love. But that's just it. He does't care about other people's welfare. He may think he does, but it's really just for his own selfish reasons. Lucas has said time and again that Anakin is greedy, that he wants everything to remain static and how he can't accept that in the natural order of things people leave your life and even die. Listen to his eulogy for his mother, for example. Cliegg Lars says some simple words about how kind Shmi was, and how wherever she's gone is now a better place. Then in stark contrast, Anakin rambles on and on about me, me, me. "I miss you. I won't let this happen again. I will become so powerful, I'll stop people from dying." I'm sure she would have appreciated the sentiments, but jeeze...save it for your Blog, Anakin. Could be. We'll have to see how ROTS plays out before we can finally judge him. But this reminds me of something I was thinking about the other day. I'm not even sure how much we're supposed to sympathise with Anakin by this point. I see him as a person who has spent the last few years (starting in AOTC) making increasingly poor choices. He may have started off as an angel-hearted but oh-so annoying kid, but he's been slowly going downhill since then and by ROTS he'll be going too fast and have too much momentum to stop. People have asked "Where is the tragedy if we don't care about Anakin?" Maybe we're not supposed to really care for him. Lets face it, regardless of his intentions he won't do anything really "good" until Jedi when he pitches Palpatine down the reactor shaft. I think that is the point where the audience is supposed to say "Well its about time you did something worthwhile, Anakin." Its the first truly selfless act he does in his adult life. Thus he gains the enlightenment that has eluded him all this time, allowing him to join the Force like Obi Wan, Yoda and Qui Gon before him. Just a side note about unlikeable protagonists in tragedies. Am I the only one who found many of Shakespear's characters to be really unlikeable? Its been a long time since I read any of his plays, but I do really remember disliking his "protagonists" such as Macbeth and Romeo & Juliet.

A neat shot of The Duel. It looks like its from the same scene from the trailer, where Obi Wan jumps backwards onto the gantry. -
That's just because you're a smelly doo-doo head. But Wookiees do kick ass.

Thats funny, looking back at this thread things were reasonably civil (for a Star Wars thread, anyhow) until you started throwing around your "prequel loving dittoheads" flamebait. So honestly, save the pious "I just want to discuss things reasonably" b.s. for the newbies.

Best Movie Badguy of all time?

Wez was nigh-invulnerable, too. -
I have a feeling that this film would have a hard time succeeding, no matter how good or bad it is. Lets face it, while we might enjoy the books, radio dramas and TV shows, to the average North American its just some weird looking sci fi movie that doesn't look all that different from...say, Pluto Nash. And I can't imagine that the average Wal Mart shopper would appreciate even half of the humor that was in the originals. At best they might enjoy the whiz-bang SFX.

Anakin had a theme. Its on the Phantom Menace soundtrack, and if you listen reeeeeally carefully you'll find that its just an upbeat version of the classic Imperial March. Palpatine has his theme, as mentioned earlier, but did you realize that the parade music at the end of TPM is actually Palpy's theme? There's also the Trade Federation March, which was used in both TPM and AOTC. And as much as we all roll our eyes at those scenes, all the romance in AOTC was underscored by Across the Stars. Jango Fett had a theme, in a way. His scenes were all accompanied by the "conspiracy theme" in AOTC. I'm sure it has a proper name, but I don't own the AOTC soundtrack so I can't give it to you. What I found brilliant about the ROTS score is, among other things, how Williams is now mixing them all together with themes from the OT. Its a perfect transition between the PT and the OT. If nothing else, Willimas deserves yet another Oscar for his score. -
Haterist, don't waste your breath...er, typing. Majestic is still trying to pick a fight. And for all his accusations and finger pointing, its funny how us "dittoheads" don't seem to pick fights with any of the other detractors...I mean "realists" on this forum. People like Sundown, ComiKaze, and countless others who can't be bothered to post in this thread, have all voiced their misgivings, complaints and outright disdain for the Prequels. And yet they aren't here quoting and replying to each other. I wonder why that is. Could it be that they're not argumentative pricks? I initially replied to ComiKaze's post about how he'd have liked to see the PT go down, and yet who is it that's here slinging shite at the "dittoheads?" No, its topics like that that make Maj crawl out from underneath whatever rock he lives under and hunt for an argument. I'm sure he'll have some sort of pithy comeback for this, one thats simultaneously dripping in cynical condescension and smug self-righteousness. The question is...who cares?

Wait...there's TWO dub tracks for Hercules? I've never heard of this before. Is the real Arnold track a modern invention, or is it a "period" voice over?
-
Majestic...I'm sensing some hostility in your posts. Are you suggesting that my parodies of your comic aren't photorealistic, or perhaps that my lampooning of your surliness is somehow off the mark? Why can't you just play nice like everybody else in the thread? Even Hurin isn't lashing out, and instead he laughs at AgentONE's comments in the same light that they were offered. But here you are time and again trying to goad the "dittoheads" with your smugly self-righteous backhanded insults. In short, don't be an ass. ps. The dialog in those comics were done with MS Paint.

In your dreams.

And since there's obviously people who haven't seen these, I'll repost the rest of them.

But....you were already playing that game. Wait, does that mean there's two of you? Does that count as too many players on the field? I need a Ref! That's debatable. No wait...that's what you want! Another debate! Oh woe is me, Majestic has already schooled us in Debate 101. The end is nigh!
