    No kidding. Between then and now we have....umm....quick, somebody name a movie worth seeing. JsARCLIGHT's (understandable) distaste for Farrell aside, that looks just like I'd hoped it would. The writeup under the 'story' section seems like classic Mann material. Here's hoping he knocks this one out of the park.

    Sweet Jesus! That deserves its own thread. The only way it could be cooler is if Roy Focker himself somehow sprang to life and hooked up with the Agent man.

    Yup, there's a second (first, actually) set of clips in that thread. As easy as I was on the set Mechamaniac posted, this other set highlighted how bad this dub could potentially be. But it also made me realize something that is also tainting my perceptions of this dub. Like many of you, I remember the old ( I hesitate to say "classic") RT cast, and now with my beloved Animeigo set I'm familiar with the original cast. So now we have yet another cast which to my ears sounds doubly weird. I'm sure I could warm up to some of them, given time. Except for "TMNT" Roy Focker. There's just no excuse for that.

    "Pudknocker?" Did I just hear Roy call Hikaru a "Pudknocker?" This is actually worse than A1 predicted. Not only did they try to make the dialog sound edgy by adding unnecessary swearing, they used a 5th grader's idea of swearing. "Frikken" lame, if you ask me. Other than that, Misa made little or no impression on me, Claudia does indeed resemble her earlier RT incarnation (which in hindsight was actually fairly close to the Macross original) Roy sounds like a ninja turtle, and Hikaru sounds like a reaaaaally forced impression of a generic pimply faced teen. That leaves Mari. What can I say? In some respects she sounds almost the same as her 20 years younger incarnation. The accent suits the character (something the original never really bothered with).

    Tom Cruise is certifiably insane. Now, with that out of the way, I will admit that I have a soft spot for MI:2. There was just something about its exuberant, over-the-topness that I still like. It was almost a parody of an action movie. Sort of a Last Action Hero type parody without the magic ticket bs. It was 2 hours of stupid action porn. I was expecting the inevitable sequel to be more of the same, but with JJ Abrams on board it has the potential to be more than that.

    Clip shows aside, I'd have to second the dislike for Private Time. That episode was actually the one that launched my tirade against the post-Love Drifts Away episodes. Virgin Road is also tough to watch, mostly due to the jaw-droppingly bad animation.

    I recently downloaded a DVD rip of my party from my 5th birthday. The transfer was only so-so, but I was really impressed with the quality of the audio. However the content was absolutley juvenile. Was the 3 3/4" Hoth Han Solo and a pair of Snowtroopers really that impressive? Puh-leeze. Also, who gets that worked up over a birthday cake shaped like a race car? And the fashions have dated very poorly. The extras were minimal, but I did get a kick out of my own audio commentary in a vain, narcissistic way. All in all this release is poor and only serves a nich market (unlike the Agent ONE Birthday 6-pack DVD set). I give it a 3.5/10
