Wikipedia says that the CD rom you're thinking of was only published in 2003, while the manga stories themselves were published over several years in the mid 90's. THIS version contains both the manga version, and the CD rom version.

This weekend I had the chance to sit down and read through the first three issues of Dark Horse's release of GITS 1.5, and something amazing happened. For the first time since I read the original Ghost in the Shell in the early 90's, I found myself enjoying a Shirow manga! Given his miniscule output in that area in the last 15 years that's not saying much, I know. But compared to the disappointment of Man Machine Interface, Human Processor Error takes you back to the days when his manga were not only engrossing to read but were also fun. While not a slapstick comedy like Dominion, GITS 1.5 certainly is on par with Appleseed and the original GITS, where Shirow wasn't too proud to end a page with a little superdeformed charicature doing a double take, or sticking his or her tongue out. But not only is there humor, but there's also plot! Plot that you can comprehend! Imagine that. Thus far the story has focused on Togusa and a new character named Azuma, with cameos by Batou, Saito, Aramaki and even the Major herself. A brief scene in one issue shows Kusanagi (now calling herself Motoko Aramaki) already in the role of a "private contractor," as we see her in MMI. The difference here being that reading the scene isn't like being struck in the face by a heavy textbook. Also of note is the fact that somebody finally managed to print a Shirow manga in the unflipped format. This comes just in time for the re-release of DH's entire Shirow catalog in unflipped format, but for those of us who've had our TPB's for some time, it seems a tad too late for that. Only a crazed, unashamed Shirow like EXO wouldn't blink at re-buying all four volumes of Appleseed, two volumes of Dominion, as well as Black Magic and Orion again. Personally, I'll stick with my filthy gaijin flipped editions.

Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam A New Translation
bsu legato replied to F360°'s topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Therein lies the problem with too many fans. They cannot simply resign themselves to the fact that there are more than one version of their franchise of choice, be it Macross, or Gundam, or even Harlock. Instead, they have to preform these ridiculous mental gymnastics to attempt to reconcile the two versions into some cohesive, singular timeline. -
Engage Planet KISSDUM. Coming 2007

That hurt my eyes to read. -
This trailer looks like "Michael Bay meets Independance Day." I think I'll pass.

Pics of the new EE Solo ANH DL-44 are out there, and lordy do they look awesome! I wish I had had $600+ to buy one. That and a Collectors Society membership.

A 1/60 SV-51 is the only toy Yamato could make that would drag me back into collecting.

Against my better judgement, I took a look at the Rebel Scum forum. Wow...I had forgotten how tenuous a grasp on reality some of those people have. Not only was the CE line going to cause their precious LEs to lose value, some actually felt MR owed them a refund now that a less expensive version was (going to be) on the market. Another popular notion was that people who wouldn't or couldn't spend the money on a LE somehow didn't deserve a cheaper version. Collecting is something you have to work for, dontcha know? I had forgotten how hardcore SW collectors made me feel so....stabby.

It's not horrible, per se. It's just horribly average.
-
Maybe because it places a distant third, behind its Cowboy Bebop and Outlaw Star forebearers. Really, it's just disappointing in so many regards, and at only 13 episodes it's over just as it begins to get the least bit interesting.
-
I had passed on getting one of the last Obi Wan ROTS sabers in the hopes that the CE ANH edition (featured in those leaked solicitation flyers) would become a reality. So much for that hope. I supppose I could piece one together like Sumdumgai mentioned ( I know Romans has all the requisite parts) but I'm 100% positive it would sit in parts for a number of years before I bothered to get around to assembling it.

It seems like such a lose-lose proposition to me. Last year the biggest complaint that I heard repeated ad nauseum was that they weren't answering anything. "OMG, 2 much misterees," they'd write. "Y wont tehy explain teh glass eye?" Now a season later, we're flying ahead in the story, with more information about The Others hinted at, when not ouright revealed, than we had dreamt we'd get in six short episodes. And now the complaint is "Meh....I'd rather see Kate's horsie again." IMO, the first part of S3 was a marked improvement over the middle section of last season.
-
That's beside the point. If it's what they belive, then it's sufficient motive to explain their wheelings and dealing. (barring major plot twists & such, of course)
-
So bad guys can't be hypocrites?
-
Hmm....this is sucky news, no doubt about it. I hope this isn't the result of MR listening to the complaints (read: b!tching) of LE "investors" who felt their collections would be devalued, somehow.
-
What you say!? When did this happen? Did MR cite a reason for terminating the CE line?

I just started re-watching all 4 volumes for the second time, and I have to reaffirm my love for this show. It's a damn shame that VOTOMS never got the kind of exposure in North America that Macross (via Robodick) or Gundam have recieved. This show deserves more love, dammit. I hope one of the old-school fansubbers picks up the OVAs so we can have a chance to see them. Best case, they get some sort of re-release when the new VOTOMS series airs.

Gibson Sticks Himself In His Apocalypto Trailer
bsu legato replied to Duke Togo's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Sugar tits!* * I have nothing to actually add to this topic, but I've been looking for a place to use that line since Gibson's DUI. -
I was just reading IGN's REVIEW of the DVD, and it sounds like the Unrated Director's version is somewhat different from the theatrical version. Is it different enough to change the opinions of die-hard Vice fans? I doubt it, but it may at least warm JsARC's reception of the film to from "icy" to "tepid." I'll post some comments when I have the DVD in my greasy mitts.

It's pretty easy to imagine what the forum would be like, were it running today. Here's a sample of topics you're missing out on: Post pictures of your favorite chocolate bar Whats the worst name for a day of the week? Who likes Sporks? Karope vs Hello Kitty: which is the cutest?

That server has been twitchy since day one.

It's getting to the point where each new episode is somewhat bittersweet. Now with ep 21 out, we're getting really close to the end of Second Barrage. Hopefully there's a third season announced soon.

It probably has something to do with some people's overwhelming need for immediate answers, and for those answers to be spelled out in the most dumbfoundingly literal terms. True Story: In regards to both the season finale last year, when we see Desmond's experiences in the hatch, and the premiere this season, a poster on another board actually commented

May you be condemned to an eternity of mindless "Gundam Wing" repeats for your blasphemy.
