Isn't Toynami going to offer "new" voltron toys in the future? <_

pix of Halle Berry as Catwoman
bsu legato replied to terry the lone wolf's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
So I take it you like this then, Max? You're quick to point to us when we dislike something, but you studiously avoid offering your own opinion on the matter. Come on...will "Catwoman" be t3h pwnzorz or not? And then you can tell us how awesome Alien versus Predator will be too. -
Alien vs. Predator Movie Next August
bsu legato replied to glane21's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
If you re-read the thread, most of us have been quite clear and lucid about why we are not thrilled about this movie. Would you prefer us to mindlessly post replies like "OMFG, Aliens versus Predator will be the bestest thing ever!!11" Like I said, it will take more than a simple "Punch & Judy" meeting of two franchises to get me into the theater. I'm not excited by the prospect of Paul Anderson directing, and the story and character summaries have been lackluster at best. I've already left an open challenge on the previous page for AvP defenders to tell us why this movie will "own." You are right on one point; it's really too early to tell what the final product will be. But the initial signs do not point to a blockbuster. -
Oh, and thanks again for the scans, TheLoneWolf.

Alien vs. Predator Movie Next August
bsu legato replied to glane21's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Maybe it's my age talking, or maybe I'm too desensitised by video games, but I don't really get worked up about stuff like this anymore. Sure, I can enjoy by a good "shoot 'em up" film, but I'd get much more excited about something with a good story too. The simple prospect of Aliens and Predators opening a can 'o' whoop ass on each other really does nothing for me without some kind of story context. If the two species beating on each other was all the fans wanted to see, then I could probably entertain them with a little AvP puppet show. -

Alien vs. Predator Movie Next August
bsu legato replied to glane21's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
If anybody feels that we've been too hard on poor old Aliens Vs. Predator, then by all means tell us why we're wrong. Tell us something that excites you about this project, whether it's the cast (I read on Dark Horizons that Lance Henrikson is the first to be cast) the characters, the story, or even the talent behind the lens. Please, enlighten us as to why this movie will, in your opinion, kick ass. -

Bleh. I'm getting sick of comic book movies altogether. What's Hollywood going to do once they've strip mined the comic industry and run out of ideas? -
Uxi's right. You can't "prove" a negative. The fact is that, circa 1984 there was no statements one way or the other in regard to DYRL's placement in the continuity. One more time for the cheap seats: Show us something from 1984. And just what does the Megaroad prove? How does this place DYRL as an in-continuity movie? Supports this....how? If you want anybody to take your arguments seriously, you're going to have to come up with something more substantial than this. How many times do we have to say this? We're not interested in any retcons from Plus or 7. The fact is that you can't come up with anything from '84. Again, this doesn't prove anything. Lots of films rely on pre-existing knowledge of their TV counterparts. Furthermore, this reliance on familiarity with the TV show does not automatically mean that DYRL must therefore be a movie. Sure...but find us an example of their "stance" that predates Plus or 7. Show us anything from '84 that indicates that DYRL was anything less than an alternate version of their story.

Heed Gerwalker's words well, young fanboy. He who messes with Yoshi, messes with the rest of Macross World. It'd be a shame if we had to go all "Edo" on you. <_

Great work, ewilen. Talk about "above and beyond the call of duty"...

As far as LFL is concerned, everything is canon. That includes Dark Forces, and even the horrid Marvel comics with their 6ft tall talking green rabit Jaxxion. <_< And people wonder why I hate EU so much...?
-
Yeah, more than likely I'm too late. Anyway, I've learned that we're supposedly going to get our first look a her Ep III look sometime before the end of the year. I'm sure there's at least one or two posters here who find pregnant women hot.

I know what you mean. I'd give my left nut for 1/35 H-Guges kit.

Hey, I'd still make a woman out of that girl. But otherwise, yeah her non-SW performances have really been underwhelming. I find myself agreeing with those fans who say Keira Knightly should have played Padme.

Since I don't post on any other anime boards, I have to wonder: how do other franchises deal with the movie versions of TV shows? Is the Escaflowne film considered a "fable" in their fictional world? How about the original Gundam films? Are they an HBO miniseries, filmed in UC 0110? Or maybe they just don't think it's worth fighting about. <_<

Best Gaming Platform of All-Time
bsu legato replied to areaseven's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
*agrees with SuperO 110% * It could almost be called the "Star Wars" effect. We look back on this stuff from our childhoods and think "Man, they just don't make games/movies like that anymore" but when you look at it objectively, they aren't always as great as you remember them. Now if you'll excuse me, I'm off to play "Mission X" on my antique Intellivision. -
Rogue Squadron 3 delayed!!!!!
bsu legato replied to Macross_Fanboy's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
I know, I know. I'd go into it here, but that's kind of OT. Just believe me when I say that there's much better Eu out there than all of the NJO combined. -
I imagine that any and all questions regarding M7 Trash will be quickly and quietly deleted over on the RT.com forums from now on. Oh well, like Sunwards I guess it was too good to be true. <_

Really? That's too bad. I'd always pictured him as a down-to-earth kind of guy, but I guess with one or two hits like "Moulin Rouge" under his belt he's developed something of an ego. Portman, it seems to me, has really lost interest in moviemaking altogether. Her college degree plus the rumors that she was going to move back to Israel after school make me believe that she's nearly done with Hollywood. I expect she'll be just going through the motions in Ep III, much like Harrison Ford in ROTJ.

32X, hands down. It's also responsible for my vow to never again purchase a Sega system. I mean, who releases a system that will only ever have a liabrary of 8 games?

Most of us have the DVD, so why not just give us a time/frame reference? Is there some hidden meaning in the video for "Angel Paints" that we've been missing that proves the "DYRL as a movie" theory? And you keep mentioning the rebuilt Macross seen in FB2012, but that does not indicate what it originally started out like. If there was footage of them removing the remains of the aircraft carriers or something, that might give credence to your argument. As I've said before (and which you've conveniently ignored) FB2012 seems to give equal weight to both SDF and DYRL footage. As for your "I've been in this longer than you n00bs" argument, I'd suggest that you should know better than to pull that, but you obviously don't.

Metal Gear and Metal Gear Solid 1 and 2
bsu legato replied to Macross_Fanboy's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Actually, I'm amazed that it hasn't happened already. Then again, given the meticulous nature of Metal Gear's production, an OVA would likely take 4 years to make.
