Series by Shoji Kawamori I wasn't aware of...
bsu legato replied to crasis's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Well, you will later this year when Geneon Entertainment releases it on DVD as The Daichis - Earth Defense Family. Really? Cool that they would release something relatively obscure like this. Now if I could only get an R1 release of Blazing Exchange Student. -
Awesome.

Yeah, the current crop of Hollywood "tough guys" is pretty limp wristed compared to either Arnold or the leading men of yesteryear. Heck, Clint Eastwood could still kick the crap out of Russell Crowe, Brad Pitt and Tom Cruise. Mel Gibson has definitely gone soft, and does anybody even care about Bruce Willis anymore?
-
So the updated list is: Clint Eastwood Steve McQueen Charles Bronson Chuck Heston Lee Marvin James Coburn Lee Van Cleef John Wayne Robert Shaw Edit: can anybody come up with some modern manly men to compare to Arnold? I can't think of a single one right now.
-
Actually, I'm not a big fan of the first film either, for precisely the same reasons you mention. However, Production IG looks like they're doing their usual world class job in terms of animation, which is my main drawing point for this film. There was that early trailer that had the faux-steadycam tracking shot of Batau, for example. Awesome looking stuff, no matter how inaccessible the story might be.

Would these so-called "torrents" be subtitled? That is, if such a thing existed. Which it doesn't.

NEW Official MPC Thread!!!

I'll give you $5.00 CDN, and this half eaten bag of "Cool Ranch" Doritos. -
Sure, although if you feel there's a huge disparity between an actor's on-screen persona and their real lifestyle (like if you though Bronson was a sissy because he liked wild flowers) then by all means point it out.

No kidding. All the Batty figure needs is a sound chip to recite dialog from the movie. Fiery, the angels fell.... -
Good enough. A mini-editorial might be better than a letter or number grade anyway. So far, the list includes Clint Eastwood Steve McQueen Charles Bronson Chuck Heston and I'll add Lee Marvin

Damn, and the fighter mode looks so good, too. But I don't have the money nor the patience to play the "Alpha Lottery." -
Do it here, since this they all are being compared to Arnold. I don't now how to rate them, though. Letter grades, or maybe a scale of 1-10 ( 10 being The Oak himself, and 1 being something completely sissified like Andy Dick). or if you want to get all mathematical, you could use Arnold as your benchmark and rate everybody else in terms of less-than Arnoldness or more-than Arnoldness.

Landmates! I still prefer the original Guges, but I'll snap these up in a heartbeat. Now if they would just get off their collective asses and move forward with the North American release of the Appleseed movie, then Yamato USA can get these critters onto the shelves.
-
Can we get an AgentONE rating on our favorite non-Arnold manly men? I'm curious how rugged actors like Clint Eastwood or Steve McQueen stack up to The Oak in terms of testosterone.

Does he come with a little nail we can stick into his hands??? You know you'd only end up losing it. But he does seem to include a dove. Does that count for anything? -

Is that the same one that MiM is selling for $499? I always knew they were overpriced, but damn..... -

They have one of each. However, looking again I see that their large scale toy appears to be the same Japanese toy that you and Fulcy are talking about. Check them out HERE. they used to have a smaller scale Spinner, but it must be OOP. -
"New Flash Gordon Movie!" or

Nope. But I too am getting sick of her. Hopefull the stink of "Catwoman" will cling to her career for a long time. Then they can recast Storm for X3 and get somebody who can act and who would enjoy the role. -
To me it sounds like Yamato's success will only hurt us Macross fans in the long run. Now that they're branching out into other lines of high-end transforming toys, there's less and less Macross stuff coming down the pipe. Of course, we do get a Garland out of the deal....so maybe I should just shut up. A 1/48 GBP-1 does sound nice. Hopefully they will reissue the VF-1J at the same time.

What you need to do is seek out the awesome Spinners that Monsters in Motion carries. Freakin' awesome, especially the biggest scale one. -

As usual, you entirely missed the point. While in your eyes the current "Director's Cut" might be an improvement, it is in no way, shape or form Ridley Scott's director's cut, and if you had any understanding of how the 1992 DC was produced, you might not have wasted our time with your ranting about "artistic integrity" and "studio edits." Again, since you apparently skimed over my initial post, I will restate the facts that are painfully obvious to anybody who has followed the Blade Runner ordeal; The 1992 DC is not a "real" director's cut. It has as much "artistic" validity as the original 1982 theatrical cut, and the subsequent VHS releases. Thus, if a viewer prefers one version or the other, there is no "right" version. Yet. You honestly don't even realize what you're posting half the time, do you? -

$130 million? That seems a little high for a Rob Cohen film. Even XxX didn't cost that much. -

Ok then, tough guy. Why don't you try to actually refute my initial point about the so-called Director's Cut that you want to bludgeon everybody into choosing?
