Misc Game Info: There seems to be at least 104 unit types involved, including EVERY VF through the -22S. (including the Sound Force Kai's, destroids, SDF, Megaroad, and of course the enemy mecha... and the stuff from MII) UN SPACY 'Squadrons': Arch-Angel, Bright Eyes, Universal Nuts, Pendragon, Flame Force, Black Knight, Illusion Vipers There seems to be 20 distinct victory conditions (as well as scenarios(?)). The choices you make and the battles you win definitely affect the next battle you fight, both in experience and equipment. and you apparently gain skills as you progress.

It does work out to be the overall battle map. There is a larger grid showing nearby conflicts, and the smaller skirmish map for the skirmish you are involved in. Here are pics showing both, along with a "squadron screen". (For some reason, the unit menu doesn't show on screen caps.) [attach ment=55691:1983_squadron.jpg]

Nevermind... I figured out that you have to click the square the unit is on, not the unit itself. D'oh!

Sorry, Poli.... Too many of us are intimidated by you!

Thank you AcroRay and Glane21!!! That IS what I am thinking of- the Iron Gear in the same small size as the two Glane showed. Now I know I'm not crazy... well, I know my memory isn't full of hallucinations, anyway... well, I know this existed!

I was able to get a snapshot of the menu in question, the resolution is poorso it will probably be hard to read... But could anyone attempt a rough translation? ,

Graham, et al. Any chance of someone listing what the mouse commands are inside of the rhomboid map screens? I figured out the unit inspections, end turn, etc... but can't figure out how to actually move MY units. I love strategy games, so this looks like fun... but I am having trouble actually getting started.

Pointless update (because no one else saw this back then, apparently) I was flipping through Perfect Memory* and I realized that the torso and head more closely resembled the concept art for the "original" SDF. Possibly even the main guns, as well. But it DEFINITELY had the "Final" version's shoulder cannons. *Because one should, every now and then....

Remake - The Day the Earth Stood Still
daeudi replied to taksraven's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
The Thing I'll give ya 1984? I'll have to rent it. All Quiet on the Western Front: I hadn't heard they did a TV movie version, must look it up. War of the Worlds? We will just have to agree to disagree. <sigh> -
Remake - The Day the Earth Stood Still
daeudi replied to taksraven's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
It smelled (reeked) of PC eco-geek propaganda. As if Al Gore was the Executive Producer. Ignoring the actor, that annoys me more than anything. = Correction: The fact that they are making a remake AT ALL is what really annoys me. There is a LONG list of remakes of classics that sucked. Name even one remake of a "classic" that did not defile the memory of the original. Please. = -
Unless you are sticking to the original Gundam universe, it is a moot point- the Gundam will always win. I say this not because I believe the Gundams to be of superior design, but because of the obvious. Macross has never used the DBZ effect, Gundam has. To compare even the best Valk to the "sentai sempai" Gundams is a waste of time. You might as well have a SDF-1 vs. Gokuu thread.

Oh, hellz yeah she is. -
I've gone through the convertors images, and haven't found one close yet... This pic is `close' to what I remember.... I think the main guns were in the natural diecast. The yellow parts were detachable, it had a uniform red paint job . Pretty sure the head had a gundamish antenna. The arms were more like nacelles or pontoons in shape, and had detachable yellow plastic fists. And it was 4-6" tall in both modes, and was slimmer than most SDF-1 toys... made it look SLIGHTLY stretched out.
-
Oh, that's simple..... you arm the VF-1 with RMS-1 missiles. No contest Just get close enough to detonate. And considering the mission profile, perfectly appropriate (Although... I bet Strike Cannons would dent a Gundam pretty nice.) <<EDIT: All of which was aptly stated by JT in the post right before mine... D'Oh!>> === Now- `gating a valk... no go... the VF-1 couldn't even crawl thru. Stargate EXTERNAL Diameter: 6.7 m VF-1 Battroid Width: 7.3 m VF-1 Fighter, swept wings: 8.25 m

LIVE ACTION ROBOTECH (WB gets the rights)

the new BSG has its fans. Mostly those too young to know anybetter- or who were "too cool" for scifi back in the 70s/80s (IMHO). The only thing I found remotely tolerable about that scifi version of a cross between West Wing and 24 was the fightercraft. But I admit that I am probably in the minority on that. -

fifbeat, The difference is, people were worried that crappy actors and directors would make a legendary story into crap. With RTLAM, some of us are worried that crappy actors and directors would make a remake of a knockoff of a legendary story into worse crap. I just realized... the RTLAM can't be based on the Macross saga. There are only so many times you can have a woman say "Oh, Rick!" in a movie without it being porn by default. -

While those with letters may debate it, I have always believed that The Prince was for the paycheck, and the Discourses were his actual viewpoints. Anyways.... LoGH? -

Mach·i·a·vel·li·an: 2...expediency is placed above morality... : Combining 3 series into one through a contrived distortion of a single word, while destroying the story which made these shows worthwhile in the first place. 3...characterized by subtle or unscrupulous cunning, deception, expediency, or dishonesty... : See Harmony Gold marketing and license tactics. While the word Machiavellian might be inappropriate in discussing Robotech itself, it is thoroughly suited for the company which "created" it. Please refrain from replying with same manner of response you recently gave. I do know what I speak of, as I have actually read repeatedly, (and own) the Prince, and the Discourses. === EDIT: I know we are talking about a cartoon and toy robots here, but can we at least pretend some maturity? -
Roughly 20 years ago... or something like that... I found in a Big Lots store a Knock off of the SDF-1. It was only a couple inches long, metallic red. Composed mostly of die-cast, with detachable yellow plastic guns. The head was more gundam style. (I think.) It definitely had Macross style shoulder rail guns, as well as the beam cannons. (all in yellow plastic) Does ANYONE know what I'm talking about, still have one, or able to tell me who made it and what they called it?

Some things I think we can count on in the Robtech LAM.... hair color will be more or less normal, not blue or green (at least for humans). Max will not wear glasses. There will be no knife fight between Max and Miriya, to avoid promoting violence against women. Roy will become Rick's actual genetic brother. Claudia will become either white, or very light skinned (think Alicia Keys) to avoid ticking off bigotted parents. Ben Dixon will be the gratuitous "Black Guy who Dies Heroicly/Early" Gloval will become British. Minmei and Misa will be roughly the same age. No loli's or cougars. The Zentraedi will be a LOT closer to micronian size. Think 'Battlefield Earth" The flight suits and helmets will be much more like real modern ones. The mecha will suck. The flight scenes will suck. -

Beyond that.... the fighters.... look suspiciously familiar- like the bastard children of the 19 and 21. ===== There is a whole thread in here devoted to the topic, if Graham didn't delete it in a murderous rage, lol. <<It is pretty much a hated movie/topic in this forum.>> PLEASE forgive me for even mentioning it- it was meant as a joke!!! -
