Newbie Questions on Macross
flippant_remark replied to Roy Focker's topic in Hall Of The Super Topics
Here are some Qs Does anyone know about the development of the original Macross series? Was it the first transformable-mecha animated cartoon? How did FASA's Battletech manage to end up with so many re-named Macross mecha? Were they licenced? Or just ripped off? -
I wondered what the Pilot was doing inside the cabin to fog it up like that! Great work Hayao. Don't stop there.

I started just after my first post. Eraser rubber is really easy to carve. Try it. It's fun.

I am in the same predicament viz a viz the hands on my VF-1S. A thought just occured to me. I could try and carve myself a new set from a soft white pencil eraser. I have a sharp scalpel for the job and a set of TV hands from my VF-1J for reference. You never know. It just might work...

Has anyone ever made a Diarama using the different scales? 1/48s in the forground, 1/60's in the middle ground. 1/72 Zentraedi in the background?
-
Believe me, I would if I also had a TV set for the 1S. It looks funny with one having big fat TV hands and the other not.

Whoops. meant to send the resized version. sorry.

These two beauties represent the entirety of my displayed collection. The 1/60 is in the cupboard and the Bandai is downstairs in the TV room. I love these two because of their 'classic' value. Anyone who has even the dimmest memories of the Macross/Robotech series can recognise the VF1-S Roy and the 1J Hikaru. I imagine them out on some deep space recon mission together.I don't feel the need for more right now. 2's company, 3's a crowd. Besides, I've run out of room. I truly love these things. They mine and are precious to me. If you don't have at least one of your own, you are living in the shadow. Move into the light! It's glorious!

I wish you joy! The purchase of a 1/48 Yamato induces a feeling of euphoria that can last for several days. During that time you just want to sit and look at your beautiful toy with a silly smile on your face. In fact it is hard to leave the room or be anywhere you can't see your new Yamato. I bought two at once so for me it was twice as intense. I had to take them to work with me. I seriously thought of taking a sickie just to stay at home and look at them. As it was I didn't get much work done I think it's in chasing that euphoric new Yamato high that people get into collecting these things. Alas as with all such highs, I'm sure it's one of diminishing returns. So enjoy it. But carefull you don't get hooked!

I presume there's a Valkyrie somewhere under all that armour.

I've said it before. I'll say it again. The best thing about this site are the pickies of Custom Valks. We are really lucky that we've got people like Jung on board. We should make the most of it. SET UP A PERMANENT GALLERY!!
-
I swear, the pictures of custom Valks are the best thing about this site. Any chance of setting up a gallery?

I think if you did this properly. This poll would be like an Italian election. No-one would get a majority and you'd have to form a shaky multi-model coalition to get a consensus. Not much point really... But I'm voting for the VF1-S anyway.

Grab the Bandai. They're reasonably posable and you can attach the gun to the arm. Though it's via a fairly clunky extra clip.

I just happen to have these two models right at hand I like both models but for different reasons. The Yamato VF1-J Max is a great looking Model. As you can see. But that's what it is. A transformable model. It is intended to perch on your bookcase (or CD cabinet in my case) strike poses and generaly look cool. It is not made to be "played" with nor transformed a million times. You've got to be careful when handling them. The Bandai VF1-A doesn't look nearly as good as the Yamato. It doesn't look so bad though when there's no 1/48 around to compare it to. This thing is a toy, not a model. It was made to be transformed a million times and withstand the rigours of play. The CF pictured recently took a tumble down the stairs in fighter mode (2 year old niece) and survived. The Bandai has a nice tactile quality that can't be expressed in a photo, the plastics are nice, hard and shiny, it has plenty of ratchet joints and is metal in all the right places. It's just the thing for screaming round the house with or idly transforming while watching TV. Its also a third of the price of a Yamato. In short get the Yamato for display, or the Bandai for play. Or just do what I did and get both

I got my 1/48s the other day. I didn't see the instruction sheet, I still haven't. I'll have to check the boxes again. I managed to sit down and work out the transformation process by myself anyway. I'm glad I was pre-warned about the back-pack hinge though. I love the legs swing-bar arangement, and the slide-down heat sheild is cool too. I always hated having to detach and swap bits when transforming other valkyries. Bigger IS better.

Heh, a sawn off gun-pod would be good for close-in work. "Urban-combat Valk" Now there's an idea for a custom.

A tip for all those with littl'ns and a macross collection. If a kid sees something up high that they can't reach, they are quite capable to grabbing hold of whatever it is perched on (eg. book case) and shaking it until the toy comes down. I suspect this is maybe what happened in your case Monkey My 2 year old niece recently go hold of one of my Valks. Luckily it was a Bandai and survived being thrown down the stairs. My 1/48s, I had put away for the duration of her visit. Out of sight out of mind.

Wow, That VF-1S looks great Chronocidal. I see from the shots with your hand in it that the scale must be huge. Have you tried blue-tack in the joints to stiffen them up?
-
1/60 = 1 (Banished to it's box in the cupboard now my 1/48s have arrived) 1/48 + FP = 2 That's probably all I'll get for now, my room is just too messy to display many toys

Hi all, Back when the Robotech TV series was new, a friend of my brothers, who was a genius with Technical Lego, built a fully transformable Lego Valkyrie which stood about 18" tall. I was damn impressed. Has anyone here tried something similar?
