I liked it. A good cast is essential for comic book adaptations IMHO (actors like Edward Norton, Robert Downey Jr. and Liv Tyler can add a lot of their own personality to a comic book character), not to mention a good script. I hope Hollywood executives finally learn that lots of CGI is not enough to drag people to the movies anymore. The Hulk looks made of flubber at times, but nobody seems to care, because the story, the pacing and the acting are good.

I read the book a long time ago, but is it me or the main character was always the social context? I could never quite relate to Johnny Rico or Carmen Ibañez, (even tho' we're supposed to be countrymen. I'm from Argentina too), they seemed devices to guide the reader trough the ST universe, more like actual characters to me.

Does the factory G comes with custom stickers? It's the only version I skipped. Can you post a scan of them?- 1056 replies

It won't be surprising. Yamato did the same with the VF-0. George Sohn seems to be the only one who thinks that 1/100 Macross toys are a good business idea.

The Megazone 23 Garland By Yamato Thread

I'm seriously thinking on replacing the magnets for pegs in all my Garlands. Sounds crazy, but I'm a peg guy, and I hate magnets. It should be easy enough to glue a male connector into the torso's magnet holes so it connects to the magnet holes of the legs and shoulders. The hardest part would be to disassemble the legs and shoulders to pop the magnets from the inside. The legs are specially difficult because of the plastic tabs that hide the screws. Those are glued to the leg so popping them off without scratching the toy could be very tricky. For the chest connection the best option would be a small horizontal slot on the chest piece like on the kit, but I think I'll try to modify the shoulders area first... some day- 1056 replies

I think the pin hinge of the missile bay doors is made of pure metal

Look on the bright side: Those two extra figures means that Yamato is finally considering accesories for our 1/60's. I hope we get some ground crew sets some day soon. I wonder if Yamato plans on adding different extra figures with each Destroid release.

Hahaha! I'm sorry Ruskii, I don't have time to read every post anymore. Just scroll tru' the pics and leave my opinion and that's it. Gotta go back to work!

So nice! this is obviously a painted resin proto, but I bet the cannon and leg markings will be tampoed. It's also nice being able to swap the pilot for a Hikky figure. The head machine guns clearly show an hinge now and the missiles will surely be removable. Best Destroid ever for sure. Too bad about the price. I guess I'll buy just one then. I hope this sells well and that we'll see the rest of the Destroids, including the Spartan. If Yamato finds out that there's a strong Destroid fanbase out there, they might decide to finally produce the Monster. Of course, if a single Tomahawk goes for ninetysomething imagine the price of a 1/60 Monster!

Hmmm. If you make the arms shorter you have to resculpt the legs as well, since they connect flush in fighter mode, don't they? With the current CAD and automatic tooling techniques changes like that should be easy to do. I hope Bandai don't get lazy and modify those big hips and crotch piece also. I also hope Bandai gives us a completely new Köenig Monster toy under the Frontier licence, but I doubt it, since they can't make it 1/100 due to license restrains (if I understand correctly the licensing system in Japan), and any bigger scale would probably be too expensive to produce for such an obscure mecha. Then again, the Monster team may get some relevance in future episodes of the show, so who knows?

Is it a toy? Is there a 1/72 Patlabor line of mecha being made by Kotobukiya aside from the Hellhound?

I had my red's shoulders replaced before even stress marks appeared. Yesterday I was fiddling with the original shoulder assembly and it suddenly desintegrated in my hands: both the metal bar and the plastic shoulder mounting cracked within a couple of minutes. Weird.- 1056 replies

My thoughts exactly. Besides the inbit designs are ideal to conceal those Revo joints

Payment sent By the way, is there any confirmation that the MH Stick and Rey reissues (listed on hlj as jun release) will sport the bigger tires?

Well Ranka is Minmay, Catherine Glass is Misa (and again the daughter of a big fish, only she don't have the hots for Hikaru/Alto so far) and Ozma is Roy Fokker to name just the key characters. Hell, even Ranka's cell phone reminds me of another Macross character. Sheryl is the only really original character and so far I sympatize with her spoiled child style. Maybe Ranka doesn't have Minmay's dark hair or Ozma Roy's drinking problems, but they all play the same roles in both stories. Now compare Frontier with Mac Plus or even Mac 7, and you'll see what I mean. Macross Plus it's a good example of how far you can go in terms of plot and characters within those three basic premises (Valks, songs and triangle). As for the colors of the Valkyries, that's pure sentai and it's okay by me. The hero is usually identified with the color red, but Ozma's 25 sporting black and yellow stripes don't tell me it's a coincidence. Again, I'm not here to antagonize. That's just my humble opinion and I could be mistaken, so don't mind me. But it seems to me that Big West went too conservative this time.

I'm normally too busy discussing toys to visit these sections, but I just caught up with Frontier and there's a couple of tings I want to get out of my chest. Not to polemisize or anything, I understand most people here is partial to anything Macross, but so far I've found Frontier a poor remake of more successful installments of the franchise. We all know Macross is all about transforming planes, corny songs that save the day and love triangles, but this time they didn't just choose to remake some of the most memorable moments of SDFM instead of creating new ones, they even copied the characters! (I'm aware that this must've been said tons of times already, but I'm too lazy to read through the whole thread). I'll keep buying Macross and Macross Frontier merchandise (specially toys), because I'm a big Macross fan myself, and I'm aware that the series is just beginning, but so far I have the impression that the creative minds behind Frontier were a little lazy if not mild this time around.

Yamato GN-U Non-transforming Macross Action Figures
Lonely Soldier Boy replied to Graham's topic in Toys
Great, a lunch box. Now I'm sold A display stand or a diorama would've been a much better idea IMHO. Although I'm not interested in these first offerings I do hope Yamato succeeds with the GN-U line and makes some other mecha: enemy, destroids and less iconic valks. Until then, I'll be around -
Yamato GN-U Non-transforming Macross Action Figures
Lonely Soldier Boy replied to Graham's topic in Toys
For non transforming figures with emphasis on poseability, I gotta say they're nowhere as poseable or dynamic as the Revoltechs. The bigger size may justify the higher prize, but we're not here for the size, do we? I'm afraid Yamato will have a tough time selling these babies. I'm not much of a fan of the non-transforming-toy-of-a-transforming-mecha concept myself, but if I had to choose I'd pick the Revos any day. -
Those are old transformable gashapons. Swapping parts galore and very limited poseability. I hated those little suckers. Edit: Foul fowl beat me to it.

Coolio! I guess a "Ley" is a no brainer, since it's an easy way to milk the mold. Houquet on the other hand demands a whole new figure. I wonder how the bike would look on her being smaller than the boys. I doubt Beagle have any plans to make a whole new scaled down bike just for her. That's a long way off anyway, so I'll just keep drooling on the keyboard
