Venus Wars monocycle comes to life
Lonely Soldier Boy replied to danth's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
40 MPH. Not bad at all. If they achieve that speed in the production version I might buy one. -
Well, not me. The proud owner is Syd Mead himself. You can read the full article here Now, if only Hot Toys gave us a 1/6 version with a Gaff figure...

The opening here in Mexico will be next thursday, I think, but I've already bought my first WALL-E toy. The shelves of my local Walmart are filled with WALL-E merchandise since last week. I also get the U-repair WALL-E, because it's the only version of the whole line that has working treads. I wonder if the ultimate WALL-E will feature "box mode" or sliding shoulders. I doubt it but it would be so cool. Edit: Great work there, Grand Admiral. Very impressive. Congratulations!

LIVE ACTION ROBOTECH (WB gets the rights)
Lonely Soldier Boy replied to UN Spacy's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
It's forbidden around here... for some reason. -
The tires look okay for me. The pics were taken with a wide angle lens, probably that's why they look so disproportionate in some pics. Hey, where Jenius, BTW? He's missing all the fun!
-
Thats odd. Who you got them from, misterryno?

I'm holding on the Stick and Rey restocks until we hear confirmation of wether they'll sport the big wheels or not. Also I hope somebody bundle them along with Yellow, that'd be awsome. BTW, Robotech.com has the Stig and Rey types listed as June release. They say nothing about stickers being included, but apparently they do include english intructions My guess is they're second edition with english instruction sheets packed for the US market. Can anybody please confirm that the MH Ridearmors come with japanese instructions only?
-
For the texture, it seems as the tires are not the definitive ones. They seem the same styrofoam tires of the prototype, so I won't discard treads in the production version just yet. Same with the sensor pieces on the chest. The seams are huge, so my guess is this is a painted proto.

LIVE ACTION ROBOTECH (WB gets the rights)

I'm always in the market for cool new variable fighter toys. I hope they redesign the Alpha-Beta to a more sleek rendition. I'd love to have a combo of that if they aim at the mature collector and not just the kiddy market (Heck! I'd love to be hired to design it myself!). But if their idea of a VF is Starscream, they can shove it. -
It's okay. It's a matter of taste I guess. My view of future robotics goes more along the lines of I Robot (the movie) and Asimo. I dislike the Transformers style, but as you point out, those might work just as well in real life. Maybe in the near future, the battlefield will be filled with industrial looking US mechs (with pistons, rivets and hoses showing everywhere) fighting against sleek and organic japanese made mechs Kind of like a humanoid Fat Boy against a Hayabusa

Hey, you two. Have you seen the hour? Go get some supper and go to bed already -
Thanks VF-1S. So if it's a single figure must be the one with the biggest number of accessories of the whole Revoltech universe!
-
Damn! Sorry to hear that. I stand corrected, then. Thanks for the heads up, 'M'Kyuun. That's really helpful for me.
-
I'm not familiar with the source of the ARX-8, but I like the figures. Are those two separate figures or is it the same figure with swappable accessories?

The main problem with hydraulics is the time of response. If you want a powered suit with the speed of a Caterpillar (Aliens Powerloader), then hydraulics is your thing. Gasaraki mecha uses chemical muscles. Check the intro. Shirow's Landmates and armsuits use them too, and I don't think that the concept was even born when the Scopedog was designed. Patlabor is an old series too. And I don't have anything against bullets in science fiction, as long as there's nothing that turns them irrefutably obsolete. Edit: I think most anime mecha have a sleek and organic look to them BTW.

I'm grateful with Karl Macek (in a metaphysical sort of way) for bringing those three shows to my house in a time when there was such an immense cultural gap between occident and the far east, and most cartoons in the west were too lame for their time. As some people know, I'm a comic book artist and for me Robotech was like a breathe of fresh air in a sunken submarine. I can speak only for myself, but I think what irritates people the most about Macek is that attitude of treating Robotech as his sole creation. I learned about Macross and the rest of the series several years later I first saw Robotech, and I blame Karl Macek for it. Not to mention all the legal obstacles he put to keep Macross, Southern Cross and Mospeada products from being produced or commercialized stateside. That's maybe legal but for me it's immoral. The guy is a mediocre writer and businessman IMHO. -
What's with Hollywood robots and pistons? First Matrix, then Transformers, then the Iron Monger and now ST. One would think that by the time we engage other species on their home planets we'd be using chemical muscles at the very least. I'll never understand that fascination of the american people for industrial looking mecha. Maybe it's a Detroit nostalgia thing but I don't see much difference between this and Robot Jox. That's why I'm such an anime fan.

Hollywood seem to have a policy of redesigning everything when it comes to adaptations, so I doubt we'll see VF-1's in the movies. I wonder what they'll come up with. Some shellformer a la Transformers movie, probably. -
You guys can still make one for the upcoming 1/60
-
I've never seen that small Gakken Triple Change blue Legioss, the one in the box with the sticker sheet peeping out. Is it any good? I can see it lacks detail, but does it transform nicely, like the 1/35? Good catch by the way, Guilermo!

Pic comparision of new 1/60 VF-1 with 1/48 VF-1
Lonely Soldier Boy replied to dafunguy's topic in Toys
Yeah, I always missed the Hasegawa legs on my 1/48's. The new legs are an absolute improve for me. Sleek and anime accurate. As for the nose being shorter, I think it was never meant to be that long anyway. I think we're probably spoiled by the looks of the 1/48 in fighter mode. The details, despite the size, are all there: the inner cockpit looks even sharper in detail. Also I've never noticed how big the chest plate was in the 1/48, now it looks terrible out of proportion to me. The bump behind the cockpit in Fighter mode is my only real gripe. I think it's the only serious setback of the new toy, and completely avoidable IMHO, but I'll get it anyway. I wonder if the transforming hands will be able to hold firmly the gunpod this time. They look big enough for me so if they do their job, I don't think I'll ever resort to the swappable set. -
1/60 perfect transforming vf-1 from yamato?
Lonely Soldier Boy replied to Shaggydog's topic in Hall Of The Super Topics
Don't forget the poseability of a Revo. Maybe by the day we have all that Yamato will no longer hold the Macross licence, but I'm pretty sure we will see lots of VF-1's before that happens. And even if we had a perfect-in-every-way VF-1, as long as there is a market for them, the industry won't stop (self-transformig Valks with the push of a button anyone?). At the end of the day it's us as individual collectors, who decide which one is the ultimate VF-1. There's people who love the chunkys to death and spend their time and money tracking down old Elintseekers on eBay or preordering rereleases. Some guys have stated clearly that they won't get the new 1/60's because they already have 1/48's. For them, those are the ultimate Valks (at least for now). So if you're waiting for the entire toy industry to say: "We declare the Yamato 1/60 the Ultimate VF-1 toy because it is impossible to improve and so we have all decided to quit on the VF-1 for good", so you can buy the whole line knowing that you'll give your wallet a good rest afterwards, think again -
Damn, that was harsh. I don't think I could afford a whole Patlabor line in 1/24 anyway.
-
The Yamato Votoms line is getting pretty large and those are really big and detailed. I think a Zero and a Griffon are a given, but we will have to wait quite some time IMO.
