Test fit after peeling off the masking tape and just having a bit of fun, really - until I get more time to spend on this. Got some weird bubbling on the lower half of the heat shield after 2 coats of clear, and a few things to fix here and there - most alarmingly; the grey trim around the optical sensor has been eaten away by the clear coat... so will need to mask and spray in grey I guess? Gundam marker didn't do a good job... 2 gunpods, for when you absolutely have to kill every Zentran in the room. Enjoy;

Haahaha, cheers Fatalist - I have done the leg FAST packs, but the boosters - i guess i can put some 'no step' or 'danger' or some such? Maybe white 'UN SPACEY' decals on them, any suggestions? YF-19 in Hikaru DYRL scheme? Sweet! So managed to find some Tamiya Mark Fit solution - shops i went to didn't have microsol or mr.softener or whatever - but it worked really well on the skull logo; EDIT: Clear coat & panel lines, woot!

I think it may be my shitty camera and inconsistent lighting, but it looks fine in person - but thanks for making me freakout and paranoid

U-U-U-U-UPDATE! I really should be doing work... BUT - here we go; Please ignore the gloss - also any tips on what product i should use to flatten/mold the decal on the heat shield? It seem to be a bit too rigid and wont conform to the chape well, I know there is some solvent or something - but whats it called? Also, is it too late to apply it to the decal?

Thanks! Yeah - they are, clearly a homage to Roy, but an original (fully transformable) design for a personal project - the design of which has been scrapped or at least thrown in the back of the vault for now - new design is in the same vein, but a lot less rip-off-y.

That would be an honour on such a well made model. Did you sub-d it or just straight up polys? Either way, nice work. Are you a 3d modeller by profession?

Update! Managed to wrangle a decent looking yellow replacement of the pink markings on the head. Heat-shield done, 2 black coats and 2 glossy clear coats done. Got too excited and tried to transform too soon, and made a small mark on the heat-shield, guess 4 hrs in the sun wasn't enough time! At least I know where there will be contact/friction and can place the skull decal just above it. So a few more decals and a few more coats and it should be done! Fatalist, I'm past the stage of making the canard leading edges black, already decaled it and what not, but I think it looks ok without! I did toy with the idea for ages tho

I used AE for my VF-25F and 25S - no problems at all - recommended. -
Maybe SV-51-vertical launch style?

Masking ENGAGE! U can see (on either side of the head, bottom set of pics) where the paint is wearing off due to friction from the shoulders. Will need lotsa clear coasts, me thinks.

Hey man - that's really gorgeous work - great modelling, great attention to detail - good job!

Yeeeeaaaaaauup, I think this is how it is going to have to be!

Cool thread! I've got some artwork here; They're from 2008/2009-ish. Truth be told, haven't done any new fresh art for over a year now, due to work and having an (almost) 2 year old son. More pics can be seen in my DA acc, in my sig. Enjoy!

I'm wondering if now is a good time to pimp my custom '11?

Thanks for the comments everyone! Glad you're diggin' it - I'm certainly having a great time detailing this bird up. David - thanks for the info! Although I think i'm done with the tail fins and decals there, but the info on the real jolly rogers is fantastic - thanks for sharing! Mommar - Dude, I'd LOVE it if Yamato released an unpainted and un-assembled kit for the VF-11 - think of the possibilities! And not to mention the avoidance of all the masking issues and other technical/tedious difficulties I had making this custom so far... Here are some pics of fighter mode, for those of you wondering what it looks like with the top all detailed; Now, regarding the pink paint and the heat-shield, some quick and nasty photoshops to see where i can go; Although looking at that heat-shield now, I think there is no way to go but all black... dang it. EDIT - Cropped heat-shield pic and added another. Thoughts?

Thanks Jasonc, yep popping the bubbles has worked mostly - second coat of clear has hidden a lot of the inconsistencies. In any case, just some decals on the underside of the nose and wings + clear coats will finish everything off except the head and forearms. Regarding the pink arrow on the battroid's head - might not paint that as it scrapes during transformation... will see about that. Any suggestions as to decals on forearms? I'm not an military/jet marking expert by any means - can someone point me towards somewhere that may help explain some of the decal makings? I guess i could put a dew 'no step/danger' markings on the forearms. Regarding the heatshield, I have an idea (apart from recasting - no idea how to do that!) that I will need to flesh out in photoshop to see if it'll work - it'll involve NOT pulling apart the nose... We'll see how it goes. EDIT: Battroid pics; EDIT #2: Gerwalk goodness.

Managed to get some painting done today - quick update; freshly peeled masking tape, no cleanup done but u get the idea!

The decals were under the frosty coat - the skull insignias seem to have settled down now - but one of the FAST pack decals still has slight bubbling - oh well. I'm just about ready to paint the yellow stripes on the canards, neck and pauldrons... when the weather gets hotter I guess no updates until then? Got some panel lining done, you know, for science;
-
And that translates to?

Been using the hair dryer for the last 20 mins - seems to be working on the fast packs... HAIR DRYER TO THE RESCUE!!!!!!!!!! EDIT: Hair dryer has seemed to have saved the day. Live and learn I guess! Although some of the decals (FAST pack 'UN Spacey decal, closest to viewer & one of the skull insignia + '301' decals on the leg) have started to bubble a bit - any tips on this?
-
I think I done F'd up... Got impatient and bought Tamiya clear matte coat, coated fast packs and decaled/panel-lined legs... then boom - started to get cloudy - not noticeable on the vast amounts of white but on the jolly roger and other black areas.... epic sad face. It's also a little cold and rainy still, but I painted inside the garage, please tell me this is just a passing phase and when it cures or gets a full dry in the sun it'll come good?
