I've used Anasazi's waterslide decals on a 1/48 custom with great results. You can spray or brush on a coat of Future (floor "wax"), which is an acrylic. Next, place the decals, and let them dry. Then, apply another coat of Future over the decals, followed by spraying on a flat coat of your choice. If you're going to be handling the Valkyrie extensively, then be liberal with the Future. Mine's held up great after rough handling. I used Anasazi's low-vis decals for this one.

I'd actually be content with a 1/48 scale Zentraedi soldier, no power armor, just plain. No transformation would (in theory) keep it cheap, leaving Yamato the task of bowling us buyers over with detail. Also, there's no need for an excessively large box.

Just when I've reached the point of awe, wm adds, "I found some cool orange decals. . ." Simply amazing! -
1/72 Resin Launch Arm kit w/ Max VF-1A Super

It's so sad to me to think that your mistakes come out better than my best efforts on any given day. Though I don't have the time to build models at this point in my life, I'm still hooked on your build-up threads. edit: "you're" should have been "your." Maybe I should sign up for AA. -
If anyone (or someone you know) is capable of making a reproduction of the Yamato 1/48 VF-1 boxes (the cardboard portion only), will you look into pricing/feasibilty of this idea? I'm not sure there's enough -1D conversion kits sold to make a profit from -1D specific boxes; however, there might be enough people wanting, for example, black-colored DYRL style boxes, saying "VF-1x Custom Edition" on them to make some $. Yup, even after a few drinks, the box my CF came in still doesn't look good. Maybe a Macross Gold Book themed box would be worth making (my wishful thinking). After seeing some of the awesome talent in the Fanworks forum, I know there's the potential for some great looking boxes. Perhaps I should have made this topic a poll -- I can see the choices now: 1. Great idea! 2. Wicked Ace, you're an idiot who should drink less. Somehow, I think the results would be a landslide.

This thing kicks so much ass!

I recall someone posting a crude illustration of the parts that sandwich the hip ball joint and rubber pieces. If I remember correctly, removing the uppermost screw from the hip/intake allows the battroid leg to be pulled off the sandwich; then you can remove the screw(s) holding the sandwiched pieces together to put the rubber back in.

Spatula, I really like the pic of your models positioned on their respective boxes. If that -1A was trully your first Valkyrie, then you did a way better job than I did on my first Valkyrie model. If I were you, I wouldn't be the least bit hesitant to display these pieces -- you wil really appreciate them when you've done others and can see how you've improved. Thanks for you contribution.

Here's an update for those of you buying the 4th reissue -- after changing modes for the pics I posted, my 4th reissue has developed the floppy-head-in-fighter-mode syndrome. Oh well. . .
-
OK, I've charged the camera batteries, converted Valkyrie from battroid to fighter, and removed fast packs -- all just for you. The easiest point of reference is the horizontal line at the bottom of the stabilizer ("tail"); using the line as a reference, look at the position of the crossbones. From left to right: side-byside, 3rd reissue, 4th reissue

I don't mind posting pics of my 4th reissue -1S; however, I think the comparison pics provided by Valk-1S illustrate the crooked skull problem better than any pics I could post. Note, I don't own the 1st or 2nd edition Roy -1S toys. IMO, the best thing to do is to place your Roy -1S next to the comparison shots provided by Valk-1S. You can judge for yourself how satisfied you are with the toy you received. Again, if anyone needs pics of either of my Roy -1S valks, I'd be glad to post pics in this thread when I charge my camera batteries.

Here's the comparison shot from another thread -- thanks to Valk-1S. Skull alignment

I received what I believe is a 4th edition Roy today (from Valkyrie-Exchange), and I was pleasantly surprised to find a straight skull and no floppy head. Hope this is helpful to those wanting to know if they should pay a premium for a 2nd edition.

Actually, the only bashing I've seen is that doled out by giant aliens -- specifically in the head area. Anyway, poking fun (light criticism) of the 1/60 scale Valkyries shouldn't offend anyone, unless of course a member starts a thread entitled, "All you people that like the 1/60 scale Yamato toys are pinko-commies that deserve to rot." Criticism doesn't always amount to bashing.

I still can't believe how bad the 1/60 scale -1S head sculpt is. Although, this sculpt is, in a way, the most accurate one. edit: Now I feel that Yamato ripped us off by not giving the 1/60 scale CF the anime accurate head sculpt.

The Hikaru 1S came with a rubber type material pilot. Same material as the Low Vis and TV Pilots. The Roy is the original hard plastic pilot. All the Roy pilots are the same no matter which issue. 341020 Thanks for the reply. I like the gummy pilot sculpt a lot better, and I'll be waiting for some (more) recasts.
-
I just noticed this after opening my 3rd edition Roy -1S. What's with the pilot sculpt? Here's a comparison with the -1S Hikaru pilot. edit: does the 4th edition pilot look like the Hikaru or Roy sculpt in the pic?

Very cool little touch to the tailfins Wicked Ace. Where are those decals from? 340888 I painted the tailfins, but you can get a 1/48 scale Sundowners decal set designed for an F-14. The problem is the shape of the VF-1 tailfins make cutting the decals to look right a pain.

Added generic DYRL pilot. edit: Despite the blue helmet, that's not Max Jenius in there. It's some other famous person from the movie.

The plastic becomes frosted as a result of the mold-release build-up in the mold. It can be polished clear using the same methods used for regular plastic canopies. 340164 Would someone please describe how to un-frost the canopy? Thanks.

OK, I gotta ask; what is the small PVC transforming VF-1S? Excuse my ignorance.

Yeah, the pics are definitely appreciated.
