  1. OK, best view of the underside of fighter mode comes courtesy of Chuck: (who also introduces something I think is new---arms-only GERWALK) At least as many parts as VF-25 Supers have, possibly surpassing it? With this much "stuff" already, what will full armor look like? (the -31 is so skinny, it can surely accomodate it)
  2. Story behind that---the F-104's intake design was very advanced/unique for the time, and there were no good images of it for quite a while (intentionally). But an artist who did an "artist's impression" for a Japanese magazine turned out to be spot-on, and for a while it was suspected there was either a spy or someone leaked the design. But no, he just had a really good guess, long before the actual specifics were publically known.
  3. THAT's gonna be a problem on a DX---look how the tailfin folds to accomodate the booster---it doesn't fold over at the base, it folds over part-way up: Looking----does the booster actually attach to the "stub" of the tailfin? It seems directly lined up with it. Here you can see the 'classic' method of "one click down at GERWALK joint, one click back up at knee" to reposition the legs: There's some sort of fine script on the shoulder bits, can see here on Mirage's: (also looks like it says Aether at the front of the booster) Coloring notes---band of color at rear of boosters, just ahead of nozzles. Otherwise the boosters seem 'generic' with almost all the color-matching being on the shoulder-pad bits surrounding the canards:
  4. I almost never watch raws (maybe twice during all of Frontier), but this seemed to be a heavily talked about ep, so I did this time. Pretty much fast-forwarded through the dialogue scenes (can't get TOO much out of them) but the mecha scenes are fairly self-explanatory.
  5. I have no idea if the "unfolding" will translate well to a toy. Sure, it's not THAT complicated and I think it could work---my worry is about it working WELL. I imagine a bunch of skewed lop-sided-looking bits when deployed. It may actually be better to simply have part-swapping "stowed" and "deployed" versions. (though that would eliminate all the "fun" of that set). And yes---when they go up for pre-order as their inevitable Tamashii exclusives---buy them for every VF-31 you think you may someday own. I'd order Mirage's right now if I could. It'll be much cheaper than trying to get them later, and if you never end up getting the valk they go to---you can certainly sell them for a tidy profit by that time. I hate to think what my Alto Super and Armor sets would have cost, had I waited to buy them until after I finally got an Alto -25...
  6. Wonder if the USAF could buy some F-16 Block 60's... Though, the Super Duper Hornet does look better with its CFT's than the Block 60 does, for sure:
  7. Well, I just snapped the hinge of my MP Wheeljack's left wing. He just did NOT want to transform today. Couldn't figure out what was wrong, even got the instructions out (I just transformed him a few weeks ago, it's not like it's been a year or something and I forgot). Looking closely, I think that one is mis-molded or something. Also, it's impossible to remove the pin to attempt a true repair. I'm going to sand a lot, then Future a lot, and hope it's workable.
  8. The clear parts are TOO clear. They need more pink tinge.
  9. "Not an original G1 TV character" will turn off a huge chunk of the fandom, even if a "new" character in the comics has 100x more lines, presence, and dialogue than someone "who once got their name said by Optimus in season 3" Also, frankly, Vos and Kaon don't have a whole lot of characterization, compared to Tarn. Tarn's the only one who's really fleshed out as a character. Vos I think sold more as "awesome gun for Feral Rex" rather than "the other DJD guy that wears a mask, too".
  10. Update: OK, the wing roots didn't seem to glue at all. Re-doing them now, so no progress today. But I am so not going to use CA on a pre-painted kit.
  11. The first rule of jet modeling is that Tomcat/Flanker-type intakes won't fit well. Never do, never will. And with putty/sanding not really an option, did the best I could. They painted the interiors/edges of all the gear doors red. Even the "closed" doors, so there's an occasional tinge of red visible around the edges. All of the above shouldn't be present on a VF-31, so it should be an easier/quicker build. (You could probably knock one of these out in a day or two, depending on intake/fuselage fit---I gave each intake a day to dry, and 2 days for the main fuselage halves) They are "almost" snap-fit, in a way. They fit quite well, but most parts are not tight enough to avoid using glue. Nor is it designed that way---they intend you to use glue. But it's more like a "making it tight/permanent" thing, vs a "needs it to hold together at all" thing. Cockpit and belly-plate installed: Intakes on: Top and bottom fuselage halves glued, and tail sting installed: PS---I repainted the pilot in a medium-dark grey. He was "evergreen" out of the box, not "G-suit olive drab". And if anything I think Erusea would use greyish suits, like earlier USSR pilots.
  12. Inferno's ladder is either absent there, or folds up rather ingeniously (but almost certainly in a way that makes it very floppy/misaligned in truck mode). I mean, it's basically a "U" in cross-section, just fold down the sides onto the bottom to make it flat, then fold it up the other direction 2 or 3 times, and you've got a little pad/cube of plastic. It's just that all those hinges, on something that's open/lattice/rectangular, would cause issues when unfolded.
  13. He's smarter and more articulate than Menasor, Superion, or Abominus.
  14. What episode was Takara watching, where BlastOff was ORANGE?!?! He's a pretty consistent dark olive-brown, both toy and toon. Yet almost every figure afterwards (FoC, Warbotron) seems to ret-con his colors into some sort of bright rust color---which then makes him the "bright" member of the team, with very much clashes with the overall dull military coloring of the team. I am really sick of BlastOff being the totally wrong color. ::edit:: You know, he's actually really close to toy Swindle's color: BlastOff is not Swindle, Takara! (Swindle's color does depend on reference, but is consistent---mustard-yellow in the toon, a rusty-orange toy---but BlastOff was never either one!)
  15. Aerodynamics are over-rated, you just need thrust:
  16. I believe in earlier eps he has "subtly" pointed ears like DYRL/Plus Zentradi do, but after a while, and certainly in the movie, his ears are perfectly round up top. They either forgot, or ret-conned him part-way through.
  17. That's evident in his YF-19 drawings. Fighter mode changes little once the basic design is set, but he was figuring out fairly different battroid looks from it right to the end.
  18. Are you intentionally watching without subs, or just having trouble finding them?
  19. Decals will be very few. If any. Modex numbers are the main thing----but since every VF-31 is unique*, they should just have the proper number printed on. *the VF-31A, THAT will likely come with some decals for the modes numbers. But that'll likely be it.
  20. Didn't we see a bird with like "large canards" or something flying around? Or was that on Ragna?
  21. Pretty much. Even a deep-stalled valk can still nose-down to recover, either by vectoring or verniers.
  22. Who's gonna be the first to want a Walkure logo? The Aerial Knights crest will look awesome with a -262....
