The Unlicensed Third Party Transformers Thread

But to make it even more complicated, while the CHARACTER premiered in Car Robots, the MOLD was from Beast Wars. The original release was the 2nd mold for a non-show character--"Cybershark". (The first Cybershark toy was pretty early in the line, and small. Then he got a Transmetal version, much larger---the one we're talking about). Then years (and 2 shows) later, the mold was brought back, recolored, and put on Car Robots/RID as a new character---thus SkyByte that we all know and love.- 9331 replies

Just checked my N-Y account, seeing if there's any activity on the Mirage Super Pack front-----nope, utterly unchanged since Dec. Seems odd that some are shipping and some seem to be waiting until the end of the month. Mine is a solo pre-order, it's not waiting on anyting else.

Now, to see if they do the chest stripes... (and even if they do fix all the red/black areas, they're not likely to remove the ginormous fugly "NETFC" wing markings etc)

Night? More like blink...
-
I can repaint the wing-stripes black if need be, but if they don’t correct the chest and ventral fin colors (they’re backwards) I think it’ll be a deal-killer—-I’m not going to try to match the red and repaint the whole thing just to make it “match how it’s always looked”. They’re a half-step away from a fan-scheme as it is.

Is there any word yet on 31A Super parts? If I'd known back when what I know now, I'd probably have skipped Mirage's 31 for her 262, and have a 31A instead of Mirage's. But with no super parts "for sure" for the 31A AFAIK, I'd hate to only have a "bare" 31 and not a fully-decked-out one.

Oh man, the posts I've made about everybody using deep trans-blue windshields on Hot Rod.... (which, due to budget only ever allowing one type of clear plastic, always leads to deep blue headlights...)- 17378 replies

The computer and electronics super geek thread

Well, thanks to azrael I now have a 970 on the way. Should tide me over until 1070/1080 becomes more affordable. -

So, time to upgrade my PC. But also the worst time EVER to be in the market for new graphics card because literally every card in North America has been bought up by bitcoin miners causing a massive supply/price change. It's insane. I should have bought a 1070 months ago. Now, I'm seriously looking at used 970's. (I have a 960, but no way can I afford to go up to a 1070 now or any time soon). Any chance anyone here is looking to upgrade from a 970/1060, and interested in selling their old card to me? -
Hmmn, cutaway jet engine on LEGO ideas: https://ideas.lego.com/projects/f18a11c6-f704-4827-b06a-fba84e5818df LEGO does seem to like "educational" stuff. And presumably the Rolls-Royce license is a lot easier to get than others. (plus, I recall RR recently having like an "official" model of an engine done for them, by LEGO themselves---massive, like 1/4 scale or something) ::edit:: OK, it wasn't recent, but it was huge: 1/2 scale

Even as clear colors go, Tamiya clear green is amazingly sensitive to "uneven layers", on like a microscopic level. It pretty much has to be airbrushed, unless you're intentionally going for a "hotspot" look with slightly domed/dished pieces.

LEGO voted no to the awesome new shuttle---but maybe a turbofan will have a chance? I know I'd buy one if it gets enough votes to be put into production: https://ideas.lego.com/projects/f18a11c6-f704-4827-b06a-fba84e5818df Seems that the main intent is for classrooms etc, to show the mechanics/workings etc. But either way--if they make it, I'll buy it. -
I use intense/flourescent paints on opaque-molded sabers. Trying to get a "glow" effect on those is far beyond my skills, so I just use eye-searingly bright paint. Hot Magenta, Sublime Green, Neon Green, Flourescent Green. Testors makes all those, they're my go-to for beam-saber paint.

Eh, light grey replaced black and dark grey in quite a few spots, in the MG, to similar effect of "reducing the contrast".

New Macross TV Series in 20xx (sometime this decade)
David Hingtgen replied to Tochiro's topic in Movies and TV Series
Nah, it'll be full of action---idol action, and scissoring-far-in-the-distance action... -
Plus, I think they made the head-crest even worse. The MG's was "too tall and far above the face", this one's looks to be mounted even higher, on a longer "pillar". (no idea what the term is) So yeah, it's pretty blech IMHO. Screwed-up head, bland ugly colors. (side skirts have no black contrast stripes, boosters are same color as body).

"In the beginning"? That was a lot of Londo talking. I liked that one... (I even own the soundtrack on CD) -

Raw head-size/neck-length/leg proportions are 100% known, as they are skeletal. Smaller details tend to be newer, but are certainly "forgivable" when wrong/missing. But getting head/neck/ legs/feet utterly wrong (in a way that doesn't match G1) just makes me go WTF.- 9331 replies

I'm a huge Stegosaurus fan, and yet I still haven't REALLY liked any of the 3P Snarls. They all seem to have something that irks the heck out of me in Stego mode. I think it comes down to "I want either a totally G1 toy-based dino mode, or I want it to be made a bit more accurate based on newer research". And most seem to be like "well, we'll take the G1 toy, then 'stylize' it"---which starts putting it into the made-up/monster/fantasy category with all sorts of weird/ugly proportions. It's little different than making a "fake" car for a character who had a clear specific alt-mode. "Well, it looks MOSTLY like a Countach, but with fenders like a Civic..."- 9331 replies

HOW to use metal in joints is just as "lost" as the actual usage. Too many times it's "hey, this joint takes a lot of stress--let's make the main part of it metal---yeah!"---then that big strong metal piece, is attached to a very thin plastic section...
