Caprica! Dynasty Meets BSG
David Hingtgen replied to terry the lone wolf's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
A bit late, but editing big spoiler. -
V4 KOS-MOS sucks. All others are better, the original is the best. I'm even more bitter because V4 is intentionally just copying V1 (it's a plot-point). Only it's like a cheap cosplay, rather than an upgrade.

Episode was interesting, if a bit slow. (though that's been the main complaint since day 1). Episode could have been half as long. -

Re: MS security essentials. I don't know if it's good or bad, having your anti-virus by the same company who makes the programs (and holes) which most viruses tend to exploit. -

Sure, Mylene's not THE main character, but neither are Sheryl and Ranka. I agree with Emilia, but Mylene is far too important to be touted as evidence for "descendants are background characters". -

That's the problem--no matter what, they'll hire a "WB girl" for that "skinny waif" look. -

Hmmmn. I generally go for the 2D versions, but don't actively *hate* 3D. (I hate 3D when it's tacked on and focuses on pointless "throwing stuff at the audiecne) 3D *really* worth it for this? -

Of course---marketing. If the jet impulse is 0.4 ounces, they can say it adds force... And the drawings reinforce the masses' mental concept of a "jet car". -

I suspect some people (especially the media) are confusing jet engines and turbines. When they say "turbine", in this context---think "hydroelectric dam"---they are generating electricity, little more. And like most electric motors---incredible torque at low speeds. Their true limit is often RPM/gearing. All in all, this seems most similar to a turbine-electric locomotive: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gas_turbine-electric_locomotive (car will likely have same issues, too---both steam and electric turbine locos have the same issues as all other turbines---best at long, high-speed runs) I figure it'll be almost submarine-like in actual operation---the electric motors will run off the batteries, the batteries will be charged by the turbines. -

Currently I'm using Avast 5. Slightly slower but much more effective than Avast 4. I used AVG prior to that, Norton prior to that. -

Every video card ever massively over-estimates the power requirements--they assume (rightly so) that many people will use cheap gigawatt PSUs, and so to actually get 300 watts of quality power they list an 800+ watt requirement figuring that a cheap one of that power may actually get half its rating. Buy QUALITY power supplies, not "high-power" ones. -
BTW, 124 more Super Hornets for the USN. About 50/50 standard/Growler.

Another quick question---best free .ogg to .mp3 converter? -
That fact is often overlooked---for really high-end ships such as carriers and boomers, there may be as much as a 2:1 ratio of "in service" to "deployed/operational". The UK rarely had 2 Invincible class active at once---it was normally one out in the water, one in ready reserve (would take months to get ready), and one in refit (taking years to get ready). The US carrier fleet as a whole has higher availability, but at any given time, you can figure that at least a few are completely out of service. We need ~12 just to ensure we ALWAYS have 6 ready and hopefully 9 ready.

Re: STOVL. Above all else---forward deployed for rapid CAS. Plus, amphibious assault ships (or as I like to call them "Harrier carriers") You don't find Marines TOO often on the super carriers. They like to be self-sufficient.

V4 is still the ugliest KOS-MOS IMHO. I won't buy anything of that version. The original is the best, followed by the short-lived V3.
