  1. veffidas---thanks very much for that post. Explains/rationalizes more than just about anything I've ever read for why/what to upgrade in a computer.
  2. Well, the MOST colorful ones are just plain fugly/gaudy IMHO. (that includes all versions of Chippy Ho--that plane is a disgrace) But for colorful yet good-looking:
  3. RAM stuff, specifically timing speed questions: Currently have Win XP with 2GB (2x 1G sticks) of PC6400 running 4-4-4-12. Would like to increase RAM when I go to Win7. However, matching RAM of what I have has passed the "cheap 'cuz no one wants it now" stage and is now in the "expensive 'cuz there's not much left" stage. Specifically I have Corsair XMS2 6400C4. Note the C4. Going from 2GB to 4GB seems almost pointless, especially with the C4 version (the only version capable of 4-4-4-12) costing as much as "twice as much of the same RAM at 5-5-5-12". So my question really is---just how much is the difference between 4-4-4-12 and 5-5-5-18? Wading through forums hasn't really helped much, people give answers without numbers or explanation. I guess my real concern is---as 90% of the time I wouldn't be maxing out my RAM, would "slower" RAM than I currently have be detrimental to overall performance? Basic options are 4 gigs of my current RAM, or 6-8 gigs of slower RAM. (going to 8 would require complete replacement of current RAM and cost twice as much, while going to 6 I could reuse my current RAM, and just take it back down to 5-5-5-18 to work with the new sticks)
  4. Zvezda's latest molds have been quite impressive---their 787 is frankly better than Revell would have done, most likely.
  5. IMHO the bland/repeated schemes are why it doesn't sell. You've got M+ grey (which we've seen several times before already in the 1/72 version), and pure boring white. Flashy hero-boy scheme? Nope. Skull squadron scheme? Nope. Incredibly gaudy Fire Bomber member scheme? Nope. US Navy homage scheme? Nope. Max and Milia? Nope. Now, Yamato COULD do Milia's, but without a matching Max... I still think the VFX-2 scheme is the best VF-11 scheme ever. It's skull squadron-esque, and a US Navy homage. And colorful. I haven't bought a VF-11 yet soley because of the schemes available. I've owned 2 M+ ones already before, I'm not buying a third no matter how improved the sculpt--I never liked the scheme much to start with. But VFX-2----loved that scheme since I first played the demo.
  6. If anyone bought the GFF G-Gundam set and doesn't want the Nobel Gundam, I'm interested in it. (just tossing this out there on the off chance)
  7. Qantas A380 had more damage than thought. May need a new wing. Which is basically unprecedented AFAIK. But this is Qantas--they like their "no airframe loss" record, and they will (and they HAVE) spend more than the plane is worth to repair it.
  8. I remember that I was impressed that the animators correctly colored it when it transformed, so that the areas that wouldn't have gotten sprayed, remained white.
  9. Another "what to buy" question: Need to pick a laptop for someone for Christmas (or at least, help them pick it out), this will basically be their "introduction to computers"---they know how to surf the web, but that is IT. Surfing the web will really be all it's ever used for, and maybe some spreadsheets. It will never have a game installed on it. MS Office would probably be the most advanced thing it'll run. Playing 1080p smoothly would be nice, when it comes to gfx performance. Budget---500ish? Main issues are probably battery life and screen quality. And weight. And if it is quote "pretty" that'd be a plus. PS---any suggestion MUST be available to physically check out, so that means BestBuy, WalMart, etc.
  10. I figured it was changed to help differentiate her phone from a young Ai-kun.
  11. Rare shot---an actual round in mid-air from an A-10: http://www.airliners.net/photo/USA---Air/Fairchild-A-10A-Thunderbolt/1810250/L/
  12. The *only* version of the Macross I want is the original TV version. I don't require 100% accuracy, but the arms alone isn't nearly enough. (honestly, I'd like a slightly more subdued/detailed version of the TV one--kind of DYRL-esque, but keeping the basic shape and colors of the origina) Seconded, my feelings exactly. New arms won't change the overall transformation-look.
  13. Possibly, as it's like a full minute, it's kind of hard to miss.
  14. Slats and leading edge flaps are not considered critical so they don't have a backup, only the trailing edge flaps do. Fokkers, CRJ's, early DC-9's don't even have any, so they're inherently not critical--much like thrust reversers, they're basically "nice to have" things that can actually royally screw you if they malfunction.
  15. Honestly, I think it's the hosts, not the cars, that make the show great. Thus, American Top Gear=Fail.
  16. Lots of airliner news today: 1. Re: RR engines. It's the IP turbine. (Intermediate Pressure). That's unique to RR engines; PW, GE, SNECMA, Volvo, etc all have just low and high pressure ones. 2. In even bigger news, 787 #2 made an emergency landing in Texas a few hours ago. Fire in avionics compartment, smoke in pax cabin and cockpit. Lost primary instruments for both Capt and F/O, auto-throttles gone, was using emergency RAT for power. Deployed all slides for emergency evac on touchdown.
  17. Plus and Frontier. Honestly might think Frontier is my fave. Will have to wait for the 2nd movie to be sure.
  18. While the super/armor parts are removable/swappable from the models---it's a lot of parts swapping and disassembly, and puts them under quite a bit of stress to remove the parts. It's not really recommended to change it once you've decided "what they'll wear".
  19. The multiple other users with Grace in their avatar discounts that.
