The Unlicensed Third Party Transformers Thread
David Hingtgen replied to slaginpit's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
I suspect much of the reason for combiners, is that Hasbro/Takara simply can't/won't do them. Not to the size fans desire. And they are quite iconic to the franchise---check the 86/87/88 catalogs for just how high a percentage of the raw number of figures they make up, of the whole. But HasTak *is* making plenty of generations voyager homages---I wouldn't be surprised at all to see a new Punch/Counterpunch, or some Powermaster/Targetmasters from Hasbro fairly soon---they've done the majority of season 1/2 by now, and are going full speed ahead for season 1 Masterpieces.- 9375 replies

The Unlicensed Third Party Transformers Thread
David Hingtgen replied to slaginpit's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
I'm starting to see what I consider a bad trend with TFC-----using established movie alt-modes of other characters, as the updated alt-modes of others. As in: Silverbolt is now an SR-71. Movie Jetfire is an SR-71, and that's pretty well-established at this point. Streetwise is now a Mustang. A law-enforcement themed Mustang at that. Barricade, anyone? At this point, if TFC does the Stunticons, I expect to see a Camaro, Solstice, and Concept Vette as the updated alt-modes. Seriously---don't use another character's alt-mode as an update, that form's already "taken" and makes the character now resemble the other guy, rather than themselves.- 9375 replies

So, summary of biggest recent news: TFC's Not-Rampage has a torso mode to act as the leader of PCC figures. Note: Rampage, the tiger/arm, not Razorclaw: TFC's also working on Defensor:- 9375 replies

They're basically nicer versions of the decoys. Fun little figures to give a sense of scale.- 17759 replies

I have little interest in an Emerald Force -19S. I do not like the yellow striping on the bright blue much. It'd have to be VERY cheap for me to consider it over the F. I also like the F's head better---the S is just "too much" with the 5 lasers. Really, I think the ONLY good-looking 4-laser head is the original VF-1. The VF-25S pulls it off ok, but I generally like 1/2-lasered heads.
-
Well, maybe that's the secret--Bandai's using those pins in plastic parts.
-
Dang it! (I don't own a VF-19 yet, I was hoping/waiting for the -19F to get cheaper---but it never did, only the S model---and now I'll just wait for my true fave, Isamu's) Maybe if someone dumps their -19F to get Isamu's, I'll buy a used one.
-
Nothing beyond "2014". No one's going to actually have one for quite a while.
-
Sigh, more figures of costumes already done (IIRC), yet not a single Grace yet... (nor Cathy, Nanase, or other characters that deserve at least one figure---I mean, it's one thing for a line to over-emphasize a single character or two, but to completely ignore everyone else to the point of doing multiple repeats rather than someone new?)
-
I'm really hoping Arcadia retains "solid" pins----IMHO that is a big part of the reason for the VF-171 parts cracking. Hollow pins have edges and are not as perfectly round---all of which create stress on the parts as they rotate.
-
For the "ultimate" YF-19 this is shaping up to be, I'll gladly pay. It's my fave valk, period.
-
Too late. If there was no new YF-19, I'd so buy this. But with a new -19, I'm getting his -19. Would still like a -29 and -30, but still just not really fond of any scheme yet so far.

What are your favorite VFs/YFs/VBs/RVFs?

Thirded. The -3000 is awesome and I would love to have one. -

Function X---knowing FP, I wouldn't be surprised if they showed up with cases of Quad-U and Smart Robin for sale at TF Con. Not too likely IMHO, but I wouldn't be shocked. Also, my vote is that they will have an Initimidator there to show, but using the same "uncolored M3" we've seen before--but all 4 limbs will be finished of course. If we're real lucky, they'll have some sort of "more involved" alternate transformation for the car-shins.- 9375 replies

Bandai 1/72 fully transform able VF-1 plastic kit for Macross 30th Ann
David Hingtgen replied to Vi-RS's topic in Model kits
Follows real-world Naval practice. They don't re-number the planes every day or week, but over the course of a couple months/years, several different airframes from within the squadron may be painted up and numbered as "the commander's plane". -
I thought of Sharon, too. But yeah, Newman is much more needed/appropriate. And they already made one for the FAST pack set, so I'd like to see an improved version of him.
-
No, but they should look like they did on the show. Blue and Yellow always turn out the best, Red and Green the worst. Black varies between "pretty bad and pretty good". But if ever a set had a GOOD red and green, I've not seen it. Give me this:

From what I've seen---the KO may have more opaque/consistent paint, but it's of lower quality overall---orange peel, more bumps. But thick and opaque.- 17759 replies

Yeah, I'm pretty sure the entire -171CF is made of explodium at this point. Explodium, held together by copious amounts of tampo-printing...

I recognize every scheme but that one in the corner as being real, so I'm thinking it may be, just have to find what pane wore it...

I still don't get why they changed the FAST pack booster mounting---the 1/48's looked a *lot* better, seems more secure, and is straighter. It's my biggest complaint with the 1/60. It's overall a better toy than the 1/48, but one of the few ways it's worse is one of the things they shouldn't have changed. After the 1/55, the v.2 has the worst-looking FAST pack attachments--because they are, like the 1/55, big external mounts that never appeared on-screen or in the drawings, and are big non-canon additions that are NOT needed, since most toys do just fine attaching the boosters directly to the backpack. As for the removable nose---pointless, and a negative---often gets a bit mis-aligned etc, and most valks never did it on-screen. It's not nearly as bad as the YF-21's limbs, but it's another "chops a major part of the valk in half and introduces joint/alignment/transformation issues, to replicate something that happened briefly and most toy owners will do once and never again"
