Yup. I almost can build that set from spare parts---never quite got there. Do have two pilots though, one with a totally mint torso. (Had about half the Blacktron stuff back in the day)

"Intermediate blue" if you want the exact color.

It's surprising how rarely LEGO reissues sets. Hasn't been one in years AFAIK. I *really* hope for something that can be used for modifying Benny's ship---doesn't need to be a re-release, just another set of similar theme/color, incorporating some of the "space" parts that Benny's doesn't has. If we're really lucky---the next space theme will be classic blue and grey and clear-yellow.

Good luck getting dry transfers into grooves or smoothly around curves though.

With few exceptions, waterslide decals come on blue paper. (and every one I've ever found that didn't, sucked)

I'm a huge B-wing fan (my fave SW fighter) but I thought the price was way out of line and passed. A big pile of grey, and no minifigs? Should have been relatively cheap for its parts count, but instead it was the opposite. (plus no landing gear, and would liked to have seen some sand-blue parts)

The little mini-ships on Benny's are 4 studs wide, right? This may work then: http://www.peeron.com/inv/parts/30157 (as either one can go on either wing, there needs to be attachment points on both sides) Comes in bley, but not blue. I couldn't find a 1x2 or 2x2 with pins like that---though I swear a 2x2 version of this exists. There's also this, but it's an old piece: Was made in blue, but not bley.

Yeah, EVERYBODY's first-mold VF-11 broke. Even sitting MISB it would. VF-0 shoulders have nothing on the early VF-11.

I was thinking more of a plate-based solution if possible, using bricks and pins would make the wingtips thicker than they are. ::edit:: Hmmn, the tips already have 2 plates on them as-is, using a brick would only be 1 plate thicker---though only if you eliminate the blue tile on top and have just the bare brick. ::edit 2:: Though the little wingtip-ships themselves probably couldn't fit a brick/pin attachment system, they're tiny little things. PS----close-up pics from FBTB show that the only printed bits are the 2x3 slopes. All other markings are stickers. (I was pretty sure the tailfins were stickered, but I was hoping at least SOMETHING else was printed---like some of the tile pieces)

Yup, click-hinges suck. I thought LEGO had eliminated most of them by now, but it seems they're still around. Trying to think how they would have been connected "back in the day"----removable tile pieces over minimal studs?

I thought MP-11 and MP-08 had rather different plastic, with MP-11 being halfway between the "cheap-looking" stuff and MP-08's "classic G1 Dinobot silver-grey".- 16711 replies

Full 360 up-close video of Benny's ship: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K9Sv6fkV6-k Shows lots of things not revealed before, like the side-mounted control-tiles in the cockpit, the round tiles for the "engine glow", etc. However---it does look like much of the belly is made of the "Playmobil" airplane fuselage parts: That is so "anti" Classic Space I'll have to modify it into "normal" bricks.

I've not seen a good pic of it anywhere else, so here's the box: I'm somewhat disappointed that Benny's two faces are "open smile" and "standard old-school minifigure". Really no need for the 'basic' one, when "screaming out 'SPACESHIP!'" could have been the other side. I would so have "screaming-face Benny" as the pilot... Thought: Possible un-announced feature. I'm starting to suspect the front cockpit can separate, or there's a vehicle hidden inside the center, or something. Why? I saw evidence in early pics, but this gives more credence: http://www.figures.com/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=334021&title=lego-movie&cat=12711 The "latch" tiles---LEGO never "jokes" about that or has them as "pretend" things---if it says latch, then that is the actual physical latch point of a moving assembly. Plus grab-handles right there. Also, the big hinge assembly (grey with black ends) to the rear of that section. Lastly---see the gap in the plates? Could just be poor assembly, but also is exactly how "barely held-down" plates look when covering an open section. I'm certain that part can be lifted up at least, the only question is what for.

Hmmn, I thought the new ISD looked worse (as in, accuracy to the screen model). Just overall shape/proportions, mainly the bridge tower. As for bringing back old parts----Lego always seems reluctant to do so, but sometimes you'll see a part come back that was gone for nearly a decade. Never seen a 20- or 30-year-old part return though. They seem much more fond of "re-inventing" retired parts, but it's usually more complex/specialized than the previous one, and only really works well for the new set they made it for.

I agree-----I don't spoil LOTR/Hobbit stuff for people, even though the books are generations old by now. Some people really just like the movies, and intentionally don't read the books (comics or otherwise) to avoid spoilers.
