  1. So does the blue come off really easy? If not how do you preserve the black frames? I'd really like to do light purple like his -25S (and the in-game -29 I think) but my Alto kit taught me that a nice light clear purple is nigh-impossible. I'm still interested in getting a replacement one cast.
  2. Aww geez, I didn't even notice the canopy. So is it just painted blue on the inside?
  3. Duymon----rubbing alcohol alone? Did you mask off the black? Did you take anything apart?
  4. My -29 took way longer than normal in customs.
  5. The light grey on the LERX is over black, but the black is over dark grey. If you go down deep enough you can expose "matching" grey plastic there. Already been done by one member at TFW, I'll try to do mine tonight or tomorrow. So Bandai really did a bone-headed move----all they had to do was NOT PAINT that area at all and it'd have matched perfectly----as well as matching the game and the early sample pics of the toy.
  6. Canopy news: There's a guy at the TFW2005 forums who re-casts transforming jet canopies in different colors for people who don't like the factory look. I've PM'd him and he's interested in doing YF-29 canopies. We could get most any color and intensity, from totally clear to pale lavender (-25 style) to a rich green one like the sample-version of the 30th Anniversary scheme. I just don't have mine yet to show him exactly how the hinge mechanism works to see if it's feasible though, as that may be an issue with casting etc. He'd need to borrow a donor/sample of a canopy itself to create the mold from as he doesn't own a -29 himself (he does have some earlier Yamato valks etc), but it wouldn't be harmed and would be returned. It'd be best if he could borrow a whole -29 forward fuselage to test for fit etc, as molds often grow/shrink by a few percentage points from the master and he'd like it to fit just as perfectly as the original. Anyone have a -29 that's been disassembled for customizing or something to loan out for a bit? This is an example of his work: This toy originally had a deep yellow-orange canopy, but he's made a light blue replacement. And here's another, same situation (yellow replaced with blue):
  7. It just "cuts off" in fighter mode at the rear edge. If it was angled or something to parallel the stripes it'd look OK. But as it is, just "stopping" at the edge of the piece---it REALLY looks like a mistake, even if they intended it. It really looks bad in fighter mode for only a slight improvement in battroid mode. I've mentally sketched out a few ideas to try to preserve it--but nothing I came up with really works. It's just gotta go. (one idea is to actually add more light grey to help "blend" the area into the surroundings, which I intend to do in other areas in fighter mode---but adding more light grey "behind" the lerx then would add light grey to the battroid upper chest, which would be very obvious------simply removing the light grey there I think really is the best and easiest option)
  8. Rumor is they're trying to get the money and approval for Idina Menzel and Kristen Bell. Which would just be insane in every possible and good way.
  9. Are there any pics from the game(s) of fighter mode, WITHOUT the super parts attached? I'm trying to figure out how the wing leading edge is painted. The game pretty clearly had the lighter grey color applied to the inboard leading edge, but I don't know if it went all the way along the whole wing like the 30th ann and Alto's do. (probably, as every other -29 has a consistent wing leading-edge color, regardless of it it matches or contrasts with the main wing color) But I'd love to know for sure. (and it'd be a lot easier to paint if it didn't, as the inboard portion doesn't involve the sliding hinges or anything that may ever scrape)
  10. True---the shield is very bland on Ozma's anyways, moving the skull there would fix several issues.
  11. Looking really closely, it seems they actually introduced a few "errors" into the paint scheme compared to the samples we saw earlier--namely, stripes etc not lining up. Most noticeably around the intakes/LERXs. It should (as in, was clearly intended to do so) match the striping pattern of Alto's. But a few paint apps are like "angled to the next panel line over" and so the striping doesn't line up from part-to-part, but skips around a bit. I almost think they only "partially re-set" the paint apps from Isamu's at the factory---which doesn't work---you either need to be pure Isamu or pure Alto, to have a set of "complete" stripes that line up right and look good. It'd be fairly easy to fix, except for the little red warning arrow just outside the upper aux intake---it's on both halves of an area that should be split black/grey, and was so in the sample but is black/black on the final---it'd be almost impossible to remove the black from what should be grey while preserving the arrow. Probably just strip it all and paint black as needed. (yes, having the stripes line up is a big thing with me and Frontier valks---going back to the first -27 release, Bandai has always seemed to get the samples right but screw up the final release by changing things) Is it that hard to follow the molded in panel lines? Apparently.
  12. How does anyone think this is not awesome? Piratical>awesome.
  13. That's be an awesome patriotic color scheme if they used something like that.
  14. That light grey area on the LERX really looks like a mistake. I'd totally remove it if it's light grey paint over dark grey plastic. Hopefully it's not molded light grey and is missing dark grey paint----that's be hard to match and subject to wear during transformation. As for the overall color----if it was any darker, you couldn't see the black markings at all. It's supposed to be Ozma grey/black/yellow, not stealth pure utter black.
  15. Oooh, I love the final colors. Reminds me more of the Su-47 now.
  16. I want to see old worn-out B-wings in Ep VII, just like the Y-wings were in Ep IV.
  17. I've got my shipping notice from HLJ.
  18. I think a big part of it for for me are the super pack colors. They match the valk perfectly---too perfectly. I like them to stand out, to make it obvious that "something more" has been added on. On this valk---you really can't see what's changed----where basic structure stops and super parts begin. Really, the super parts could have had a lot more yellow, or maybe be light grey like his -25's belly, or something. Lastly, the shield is just a solid grey chunk. Boring/lazy. Alto and 30th had way better-looking shields with their super packs.
  19. Now the real question is---super parts or no? I'm leaning towards no. I really only like the smaller boosters, and not the "all-new wings w/flowers" bits.
  20. Lots of clear color pics of Warbotron Not-Brawl: https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.769129436454287.1073741825.753749834658914&type=1 IMHO, it looks good except for having someone else's head.
  21. I think the head's the best thing of this valk, and is why I want one---I just don't want one bad enough to go through the hassle of trying to get it.
  22. Why would RGB even be a thing in this day and age? Yeah, it used to be the end-all-be-all for the Genesis, back when the Genesis reigned supreme. But nowadays---really, if you've got HDMI, that's all you could ask for. Might as well ask for S-Video, too, and charge an extra $150 for it...
