  1. The lion mode isn't improved nearly enough for how they've altered the legs. Lion mode still sucks, and looks nothing like they did on-screen. I'll gladly accept an "imperfect" leg/arm mode for better-looking lions---but this seems to have been changed simply for change's sake, not to really make the lions all that much better. Also, still hate the wings. Those simply are not Voltron's wings.
  2. Yup, Yeti adapter has a great grip.
  3. Some clear plastics are very strong, yes, like bullet-proof jet canopies---but not any used in toys that I know of. LEGO, model kit, and TF plastic that is clear---is brittle.
  4. The J-20 didn't even exist when Zero came out, so it's certainly not based on it. Considering how many times Kawamori has referenced CFT-equipped F-15's (it's where the term FAST pack comes from) and the F-16XL, they are the most likely inspirations for a "modified" VF-0.
  5. Me too. Big cube showed up, I worried they sent the wrong thing.
  6. Opening scene, the big, winged, scythe-wielding Gundam that destroyed Yuu's Airmaster(?) Gundam. Ah, I knew it reminded me of something---I just haven't looked at the Dual-Unit Wing Gundams in so long I'd practically forgotten about them. (Owned Griepe, but that's it---wasn't a very good kit IIRC)
  7. The overall design of the VF-0D points MUCH more heavily towards the F-15E (a two-seat version of a fighter, with higher payload and fuel capacity, and needing a second crewman to fully utilize the advanced weaponry and avionics), than a "trainer" VF-0. And considering Kawamori's background/knowledge, that's likely a big part of the homage/inspiration. (as well as the F-16XL, again) If it was primarily a trainer---then why was Shin up front and Edgar in back? If they were really teaching Shin to fly a valk with a "proper" trainer, it'd be Roy in the back, yelling at Shin to stop sucking. If it were mainly a trainer---the rear cockpit would be almost useless to Edgar. They were flying as a pilot/WSO crew, just like the F-14 and F-15E and Tornado IDS. Yes, most any two-seat version of a fighter can be used as a trainer, and the 0D was being used as such for its first scene---nowadays they often have removable rear flightsticks for that purpose, as the WSO (guy in the back) will usually have unique-to-the-rear-seat side-stick controllers for operating the weapons and radar. ::could use detailed VF-0D rear cockpit drawings if anyone has them:: So that's the likely scenario----used as a trainer that first day as it was the best option (as any two-seater is a better trainer than any single-seater), then reconfigured/operated back to "normal" 0D "strike fighter" configuration as soon as possible.
  8. Has anyone asked Mr K if the "305" modex number for Shin will be printed on the ventral fins etc? To me the printed-on modex numbers are still one of the best things the v2 1/60 M&M 1J's have over the 1/48's, and is still a sore point to me that Grace's -27 has a sticker while Brera's is printed... All the other "little tampos" are just warning labels/details, but the modex number is unique to the plane (which in the Macross world, means it's the pilot's personal number more or less) Gotta be printed on for each unique colorscheme, since Yamato did it and Bandai usually does.
  9. So---Devil Deathscythe? The wings are certainly EW Deathscythe's I think, but not much else seemed to be directly from it. (I'm sure there's a mobile armor I'm unfamiliar with that matches much better, but I presume they're trying to work in a bit of a G-Gundam homage again) Or heck, Zeong again? (so dark and smokey, hard to tell...)
  10. I would like additional info on that too. I tried taking mine apart there, but didn't get very far. Would appreciate details on EXACTLY where to "pry" to get things apart. (As Bandai/Yamato/Arcadia all love to superglue stuff together)
  11. Only diagram I've seen actually showing a VIFF move, was to vector the nozzles forward to the fully downwards position while at the top of a loop---being inverted at that point, that would actually force the plane downwards. (I believe most ideas on VIFFing are very a "Top Gun" inspired "putting the brakes on")
  12. Dang it, I read the previous post wrong. Hmmn, I wonder if the weapons will work.
  13. Ghost question: Going through the various sites, and Sketchley's translations etc, there's a lot of conflicting info. It almost seems the QF-2001 was ret-conned to be the QF2200D-A, and the QF2200D became the QF-2200D-B, or something like that. And which became the "booster" version and which is the "recon drone" version also seems to be opposite depending on the source. I believe Yamato's two versions are identical except for paint---were any differences ever found? Because I'm leaning towards picking up an "A" version just for the paint-job (I think it'll go better with the blue), but if "canon" says that only B versions were ever used on the VF-0, then it'd be more "correct" to put the grey B version on it.
  14. Anyone got a link to MW's "main" original Yamato VF-0 thread from back when? I can't find it anywhere.
  15. If they're not going to do the -30 game repaints next, they could at least do some more renewal -27's (Grace's, some from the 30th Ann game, etc).
  16. That's the main point--it probably COULD serve as a complete replacement, but current policies don't ALLOW it to do so. The F-22 isn't "allowed" to perform any manuever using thrust vectoring, that it couldn't otherwise do using normal aerodynamic controls. The vectoring is only only allowed to speed up that manuever, allow that manuever to be performed directly after another energy-intensive manuever, to exit the manuever quicker, etc. Vectoring is only to "enhance" its manuevering, not "add new ones". Which really seems to be kind of a waste.
  17. No more so than a Strike Cannon on a -1J, but it "should". And it certainly adds more appeal/play value to it. (since all the GOOD weaponry comes with the Ghost)
  18. I sure hope the Ghost booster is compatible, I don't want to have to wait a year or two until a new 0A/S comes out, to have a Ghost to put on it. (the different tailfins may be an issue though) We'll know for sure if Arcadia includes replacement/optional color-matched "pylon-mounting-capable" conformal tank bits---the Ghosts only came with white and grey ones for Roy and Shin----we'd need blue ones for the 0D. ::off to find a Yamato Ghost booster set::
  19. Well, it SHOULD be, hopefully. I do wonder if the VF-0D was originally intended to match French Mirages----color is quite close.
  20. The 727's wings are attached like that---one guy, wearing gloves, standing on sheets of rubber, slides the main attachment pins in. Any vibration or temp change will cause them not to fit----but when it's all set, they just slide right in. Entire factory had to pause during that operation.
  21. Anyone with the VF-0 master file able to figure out exactly which missiles and launcher etc that they likely mean?
  22. It'd be nice if they updated with some real plastic/paint pics of the color instead of 'shopping them all. Look around the kite logos, you can see where they didn't quite get up to the borders...
  23. A very long time, based on current USAF rules/requirements about how the F-22 can use its vectoring.
  24. That would explain the high color variation between pics from the same shoot---if they're manually tweaking each one with photoshop to try to make it look like what they believe it will. (I did think the last pic of the series looked noticeably 'shopped-----kind of an "edge-enhancement" effect) So really, that means we STILL haven't seen any sort of revised colorscheme from Arcadia yet.
  25. I've read enough about the Su-17 to at least partially agree with those who claim it was "basically luck" that it worked well aerodynamically to replace the outer panel with a variable-sweep section at the location of the production join of the original wing design. Or read another way----you could have tried the same "retrofit/modification" with most any other jet, and it wouldn't have worked. It'd have needed a wholly new wing from root to tip, to function well.
