  1. I opened my alto 171 and I think I figured out why the CF pictured broke. On my alto, the metallic pin is fixed into the foot side plastic (the red portion on the picture above), on the CF it is fixed to the plastic inside the thigh (black on the picture above) and this is why when rotating the leg, this pin literally eats and sand the plastic on the leg side, which is compressed by the knee spring, therefore this plastic explodes.

On the alto, the pin is fixed to the knee plastic, and "eats" the plastic inside the thigh, this piece is made of a heavy duty/self lubricating plastic, so it doesn't explode.

The exploded knee plastic piece should be easily made on shapeways using polished steel, the major problem is that it is very difficult to get access to this part and replace it...

I have opened it up to pictures shown, but now I got to open the leg from the ankle side to open the knee, not done yet!

  2. That's true, but in the 1:1 scale, the mechanism is very much smaller.

With the 1:60 VF-1s, the back landing gears mechanisms use a big portion of the internal space and could eventually be redo with these smaller mechanisms to be perfected.

I much prefer these mechanisms if they could enhance the design and articulation, not if they are used only for simpler implementation of course!

  3. ok so while we are showing off some cool Alto poses I thought I'd join in! :D

This is the best I can do with Alto. I don't particularly find him very interesting to pose funny enough..

You are playing safe by not openning the low part of the gun!

  4. I think with the low number of variants of what Arcadia is releasing each year, chances for CF will be very slim given that CF variants have not sold well in the past and always ends up being heavily discounted. More chances of seeing main character valks and special painted variant.

But the 0D CF is yet to be tested! I'm in for sure.

  5. my babies finally arrived today! :o:D First impressions are.. OMG! they are stunning! Im really liking the color and they feel very solid too!

Took them all out of the box for a quick inspection and all looks good! Will have a better look and attempt a transformation in a little while as I need to tip out for a bit..

Here are a few photos anyways! B))

Nice squad! Obviously we need at least 3 0D on display to give all the shades of blue this color can do.

  6. I will have a look closer with my own 171 as soon as I have some free time. It seems not that complicated from first sight.

However, there is a mechnism that make mandatory that you rotate the leg before freeing them from fighter mode. So if you try to free them without prior rotating the leg, it could put stress on the thigh parts.

  7. Ah cool well there you go eh! :)

When I (carefully) drilled holes in the base of my FP stand for Luca's ghosts, even drilling small pilot holes first the base did start to split and fracture but only slightly. clearly they aren't made with quite the same quality materials as the Yeti stands but i thought I'd still mention it.

I would do that, but I don't really have a workspace to drill in my apt, and also I don't trust myself.

When drilling plexiglass, I use wood thread bits instead of metal bits. It heats quicker but prevents fractures.

Excellent! Where do you get these genious ideas!?

  8. Fantastic work, Xigfrid! I would buy your replacement triangles in a heartbeat, but the thigh joints on mine also disintegrated. Is there any chance that you could make replacements for these too?

I don't see which part could be broken, have you any picture of that ?

I'll PM you about maybe splitting an order. Shipping isn't outrageous but it's also not exactly cheap when you only want one set.

I would gladly help, just send me a PM and we will work out a solution ;)

  9. I tested the "Full Color Plastic" and it works. However, the colors are a bit faded in particular the black.

I much prefer the "Black Strong and Flexbile" material because the black is good and the plastic is more rigid and solid.

  10. Soooo.....-0B and -0C next....or will we need to buy doubles of the -0D and -0A to Frankenstein them up?

That's my very question, because I love the VF-0B shape, so I could eventually buy the Grey VF-0D and a spare Grey VF-0A if both grey match and combine them to make a Grey VF-0B.

But I would be very upset if VF-0B is made later with the award winning red/blue/white paint schem!
