You can still keep it attached but you're losing that newly added rotating waist articulation though. But hey, what's to complain about when this is way cheaper than the regular DX Valks and Arcadia's VF-1 releases. And it's in 1/48 scale to boot. Right? ;)

What I hate is the additional steps required for the transformation, the waist rotation is great for posing no argument about that! Bandai could have wisely over-engineered this bar to include a drive shaft or similar assembly, to simplify the transformation and keep the waist rotation gimmic.

  2. Looking closer to your picture indicates that the two plastic bits that snapped were supposed to hold the little flap and not the entire backpack.

The little flap applies no pressure at all during the transformation, compared to the arm that is a double hinge that is prone to breakage in the video from @recon. If you glue them back with the flap (avoid glueing the flap together with the plastic bits!) you should be good, and even transform this valk without problem

My main question however is how the hell did these tabs have been snapped off, there is no collision with any other part from the valkirye.

  3. The link is for the 1:60 VF-9, so yes the pilots are both around 1:60 scale.

I need to test them in other valks when I got to print them and more importantly I will upscale in 1:48 once the DX VF-1J comes in December !

  4. I decided to make a few pilots available for this valk. I downloaded a standard US fighter 3D model and added him the Macross' helmet and paultrons. I founded that the DYRL version would match better the VF-9.

Since I know there are fans of female pilot (@Sildani and me included) I made both male and female versions. Select Large size for male pilot and Medium size for female pilot. -Sorry there is no gender drop down menu yet.-

  5. @Slave IV I would be cautious knowing this is Bandai... remember how they made the VF-19 that is about the same height of Arcadia’s YF-19 but still they clearly play in 2 different scales.

@jvmacross you are so right about 1:48 stuff on shapeways. I am not too much in the VF-1 ordnance but I have already prepared a TV and DYRL pilot in the more and more obvious case that their pilot doesn’t scale properly.

  6. Until now, I wouldn't be interested, mainly because of the hips system that looks too much like their 1/72 kit. I was considering to buy it later after a review BUT considering the price and this video, I may be convinced to buy it now, and sell later if the hips bug me too much.

  7. You can print in HP plastic which is grey or black (for twice the price though). Shapeways offers a colored plastic but the coloration is only on the surface, that won’t work for my model which uses sprues that need to be cut, you will end with a red/blue with white spots valk.

One thing that can easily be done, you can dye the valk once assembled by plunging it in a red/blue dyeing bath. I know that the Rit brand works very well with shapeways plastic, leaving an homogeneous and pratctically permanent color.

Hi Xigfrid! Great F-14! Would You mind sharing who You commissioned it to?

    Thanks

It was made by Ratatarse, a general custom builder, and he is also a great Macross universe fan. You can find his work on he social medias such as Facebook

  9. Hi guys,

I've finally finished my "version 2" and just ordered a copy to test print. On the paper, this version (in black) has been seriously buffed up from the previous one (in red). I just hope everything works as expected once printed.

The wings look like they are extended out more. Is that the case?

To keep the original silouhette, I have kept the length/wingspan ratio around 1:1. Since the new version is 1cm longer the wings should be larger equally in length and depth.

The wings shown are not final, they are the last things to tweak, I gonna finish them next week I hope.

  11. I have been busy with life and work lately so I could progress slowly on this VF9.

    1) I have prioritized the fighter sleekness and firmness. A simpler nose transformation but with less "holes" and I have added a lot hidden tabs. I am pretty happy so far with the fighter mode.
    2) The battroid mode have bigger legs and the battroid height is about the same as before because the hips have been raised to compensate the changes. I have reviewed a lot of smaller details, making the battroid look larger, thickier.
    3) With the prototype, I could have a better idea on how to fix the flaws with the gerwalk mode, I have tried to fix all of them, and I also 'succeeded' to make the accurate arms position and moving them under the wings. I just hope it will works as intended because the changes involved were pretty big.

Another recent arrival.  I love it! It is orange!  Orange and blue are my 2 favorite colors!

This makes it my 12th 1/60 scale VF-1 toy... the 10 pictured below, plus a TV Max at work and an Hikaru VF-1J in GBP armor.

The collection is growing too fast for the cabinet ! These ones look protected from dust, if you plan to add a new cabinet for the top figures, make sure to pick one with a closing door too to avoid an excess of dust. Even the classic Detolf need a cleaning twice a year

  13. I received this F14 commissionned custom. The original was the infamous corgi F-14D because of its quality and lack of details but it really scale well with the arcardia Zero valks.

It was fotographed next to the VF-0B, probably the closest fighter to the F14 in Macross VF program.
