  1. I love this thread!
I remember the previous thread discussing about the design and I was wondering to myself about how fine and difficult it would be to print and assemble it.
    And you made it!
My favorite model is the Type01 because of the variable wings but I prefer the smooth curves and the nose design of the Type02.

It kind of make me want to print one myself and build it!

  2. This Lego Moc looks great! I don’t have an X account but if there is an assembly available I would love to test it.

look great on the final product except i don't like the color theme. look like rock and roll 80's vibe haha however going to press PO button if they ever announce.

Thank you, I was thinking to be the only one with this feeling. I will PO for sure this first edition, but seriously can we hope for a more modern color scheme after this?

  4. That’s a great price considering the work and numerous prototypes involved!

I would be interested by the stl but I need to find a painter first :)

I have two tips I would like to share with you:

i didn’t see any display stand option, but I have noticed that it can save a lot of place by displaying the toys mid air on a flight stand. The most practical stand I have found is the Gundam / 1:12 figure display stands which have a plastic pin. They sell for 2-3$ each on aliexpress and can be found in any Gundam stores. And it is easy to design the hole or drill it.

Buy pins! I have bought hundreds of 1mm diameter pins in different lengths: 3mm, 5mm, 6mm, 8mm, 10mm. 12mm. And never regretted it. Each time I am running short of one size I can’t imagine myself to cut the pins, sand them smooth etc. So I just buy them over and over.

  5. Hum, I have tried plug in gears and it generally ease a lot the 3D model. But I have never been 100% satisfied because you have landing gears lying in your display. So making them retractable will always give you a sensation of ‘satisfaction’.

But if it looks really impossible, you can try to have a storage place to put the gears inside your model, that way you don’t have landing gears all around your display :) (that’s the case for my KF-40 and I like it)

What if.. Kawamori decides to make a valk combiner like Transformers? Being perfect transformation, I can visualize the ghosts and packs becoming the hands, feet, pants & chest.. :pardon:

already done that with the Vajra queen and the Macross quarter! It last 10minutes though, facing 2 fighters

Checking Xigfrid's shop showed pylons like that but designed to interface with his missiles as opposed to for interfacing with the existing missiles.

They existed as a plastic recast of the originals, I bought a set on aliexpress. This is why no one has made it on shapeways. You could check if they are still available. If not, it would be the occasion to put a model on shapeways. Let me know.

That’s nice! I will probably grab a couple sets. Because they need little preparation and little paint for display !

if you can have a perfect mix to match the color of US grey like the spray TS-81, that would be perfecto!

  8. I don’t know when they have become available but they can save some time!

I generally thin these paints with Tamiya Lacquer thinner (retarder type) and it works just perfect! I have never regretted using this thinner over the cheaper options such as acetone thinning.

thanks xigfrid.   btw, what type of primer and paint are people using on this?

I use Motip primer now, I have had good results compared to Tamiyas. For the paint, I have switched from Tamiya TS spray cans to LP pots so it is easier to mix colors and airbrush it.

I am stilling having strange issues and irregular results with acrylic vernish cans reacting with the paint though!

505thAirborne, sorry but it has been years that I haven’t designed such a big project, but I can see a few talented guys on Facebook.

  10. The red one was printed in white Pa12 (standard plastic) and the grey one was printed in MJF PA12 (grey plastic).

They both need 3 passes of prime/sanding to obtain a smooth surface. Just take your time to smooth them before painting!

  11. Hi guys, thanks Jasonc for answering all the questions !

Mechapilot77, since I buy precut pins, I haven't adjusted / cut pins to the strict recommended lengths. for instance, if it is said to use 13mm long pins, you should be good with either 12mm or 14mm ones.
