  1. I took some shots of my Toynami Regult today, comparing them to various Macross and Robotech products, both vintage and modern! Regult vs the vintage IMAI 1/100 Destroid Tomahawk: Tomahawk Down! Regult in flight configuration, just for the heck of it: Toynami Regult in comparison with 1/100 Toynami variable Milia Valkyrie, 1/100 Imai Tomahawk and Matchbox Zentraedi ("Micronized") soldier:
  2. Mine arrived today! It is sooooo nice! Simple & clean, perfect price point, very sizeable! It has a good weight to it. Sturdy. Another great point is the satin finish on all the paints: Just glossy enough to say 'metal', but dull enough to say 'realistic'. There's a lot of nice detail that would probably come out with a nice, acrylic wash - and the paint is textured just enough to support it, I believe. The movable main guns are a really, surprising feature. None of the smaller guns move, but the vinyl material and lower price point give a lot of inspiration to customize them for movability, or replace them with metal barrels & whatnot. Size-wise, it goes perfectly well with 1/100 scale pieces, but also looks wonderful with Takatoku's 80s, larger-scale sofubi Valkyries. I already can't wait for the Heavy Missile version. Where can I preorder? Daisuke, you did an amazing job with this! I've had a lot of sofubi toys and models in the course of my life, and this is absolutely one of the best I've had the pleasure of owning. (I came home late from work, and sick with a head cold. So photos will have to wait until Saturday.)
  3. A couple of my cubicle decorations. I've thought the Kaiyodo "Super Dimension Figure 002" Armored Valkyrie and the Kaiyodo Revoltech Regult scaled nicely together. The little Kaiyodo Armored 1J is a real little gem if you can find one. Lots of detail in that tiny scale, cool pose, some articulation, and all those hinged missile boxes...
  4. My poll vote is for Invid/Inbit, since in the hobby overall there's a greater lack of them represented in toy or plastic kit form. I'd prefer a Grab. but would be happy with any, scaled for MPC or Super-Posable collections. If we're keeping to the Macross property, however, I'd go for the Glaug. Thanks for the poll, Maiden Japan! Its good to have an indication that Toynami is considering more sofubi!
  5. I've seen a lot of variance in the line art over the years. Regults either look a bit stocky or a bit leggy. I personally didn't have any issues with the Revoltech's design. Revoltech tends to be a bit on the dynamic, 'cartoonish' side. Toynami on the other hand seems to typically stay in the "Real Type" style, and their Regult follows suit. Only their Super-Posable Valks were rather like the Revoltech look, IMO. Even the Super-Posable Mospeada items were closer to Real Type look.
  6. I hope some company in Japan picks up the toy. It should be very popular, especially since the sofubi medium is still enduringly popular there. Eagerly waiting for UPS to deliver mine...
  7. It will go well with your "Bulky-Lee"*! *Old bablefish joke...
  8. (Is it my imagination, or did this thread get moved? )
  9. Oh, these are too much fun! My kids and a couple of their friends would absolutely love them (and so would I, for that matter)! Too bad the chain isn't in the northeast US.
  10. Phororhacos is even older... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Phororhacos
  11. Humn... The Kaiyodo gashapon figures might match that look with the RVC Regult, maybe? My Armored Valkyrie from the Kaiyodo/Movic 002 set scales rather comfortably with my Revoltech Regult.
  12. Some people won't like it, certainly, because its not in their preferred scale or material. But when more of of the Toynami Robot Vinyl Collection ("RVC"?) Regults arrive into the hands of their new owners, it's good that there's a thread for it. The initial reviews I'm seeing on-line for the Regult - and those from people who actually own them - are quite positive. I think that since vinyl is such a good medium for modification we should hopefully see some customs here, too.
  13. When mine arrives I'll photograph it with my large TT vinyl Max VF-1J, and the small vinyl Regults for comparison. I've actually got 6 different toy Regults, so maybe I'll do a family photo.
  14. From Yamato? Ha-hahahahahahahahahahahahahaha! Anyhow, I love the way it's still called a "Regult" in spite of the Robotech licensing requirements. If you just ignore that first sentence, it's all-Macross. The box reminds me of the plastic boxes for the 80s Takatoku vinyls. And I do hope Toynami can somehow get a Japanese release. I can't wait for mine. Faster, UPS!
  15. FF95gj, does your Revoltech have frozen joints in the upper legs? Mine isn't having any trouble standing on its own in several poses, but on leg did give me issues where a revo joint's post fitted into the upper PVC hip part, and the paint wouldn't allow it to rotate properly. The leg kept wanting to splay outward, making it difficult to get a foot flat on the ground. I had to remove the rest of the leg, take a pair of pliers with paper wrapped around the head (to not scar the Revo joint), pull it out and then re-seat it until it moved properly. As far as additional decals are concerned - I wonder if these aftermarket guys would make a Zentraedi set in white/blue, with some white unit characters? Their traditional black/yellow Zentraedi set is only $3: http://www.stickerfixer.com/symbols/0041.php Reprolabels.com might also step up to the bat. They cold even rescale the set for the old Matchbox & Playmates Regults.
  16. Back in the 80s I built 1/100 and 1/200 scale Regult kits, and usually did them in the anime-style color set. My recollection is that they did tend to look a little bland in the face. That's part of the design. A little work on the panel lines with a gundam pen or a wash wouldn't be a difficult thing to do. That's something I'd rather do myself than have Toynami do, since that's not part of the anime-colorway this piece is styled for. Once I have mine in hand, I'll be seriously considering adding a light to the eye. The vinyl main hull should be easy to get into, and it shouldn't be difficult to find a red lense & LED element to light the eye. I'm surprised no one has mentioned that here yet.
  17. I'm happy to see a Macross toy that's NOT 1/60 scale and DOESN'T cost nearly $200. I sick of being locked out of most Macross product because it HAS to be over-engineered, overgrown and over-priced. This thing's only $25! Treatment - you're utterly nuts comparing features and costs to a line product produced 7 years ago... 8, if you count R&D and manufactuing time, since they started promoting those things in '02. And they flopped. Honestly, dude. Maiden Japan - you & Toynami hit a bulls-eye with this. Thank you for a nice, big toy Regult that doesn't cost a car payment for, that looks on-model, fun and colorful just like they looked on the show. Thanks for keeping the faith. Anyone who doesn't like it... Well, I expect there are 1,999 other people who do and have $25 to spare.
  18. BBTS just sent me my notice. I can't wait! Yay! I'll probably get the heavy missile type, too. For the price and size, you really can't lose. It'll go nicely with my other 1/100s, and my larger Takatoku vinyl Max Valkyrie. Those are nice shots FF95gj. Thanks!
  19. It's like watching a fully-animated version of someone's MEKTON ZETA RPG session! Kind'a cute, actually... like a Sandy Frank production on MST3K. (This is the kharmatic punishment of the Japanese animation industry for outsourcing all that work to cheaper Asian subcontractors.) I wonder if we can look forward to all-region bootleg DVDs of it on eBay here soon?
  20. Count me in for one! (If my wife will let me keep $60 out of one of my recent ESPN gigs...)
  21. Vintage Takatoku sofubi SPARTAN!
  22. Both companies pooled funds and resources, as I understand it. The combined preorders from both companies' versions are what would have permitted the R&D expenses. I believe shared design staff were involved as well, so it was probably a shared contract with whatever firms did the design and development work on the project. Both Toynami and Beagle would both likely have had staff working with the designers.
  23. Share the source?
  24. I was so disappointed the US-release DVDs lacked this tune! (Although the instrumental they used wasn't bad.) I used to have an extended version of it that came on a red flexi-disk in a Zeta Gundam back I got back around '88. You can hear a bit of a rough edit at :47/:48 (youtube clip time) in the open where the extended version is cut down for "TV size."
