  1. Look at the old, yellowed decals on that and the obvious stand-in decal on the arms. That's a VINTAGE kit they're displaying!
  2. Looking at the buildup of the Imai Regult and some of its idiosyncrasies, I think it is rather apparent that it served as the model for Matchbox's large scale ROBOTECH toy.
  3. Hobbylink Japan coverage from the All-Japan Mokei Hobby Show 2010 trade show, right up front with lots of buildup & sprue pics: http://www.hlj.com/shows/ths10/bandaipart2.html

    VF Girls

In honor of her birthday, the leader of the Isumi Valkyries from MUV LUV ALTERNATIVE gets her turn as a Macross VF-Girl....
  5. Crap - I missed the early-bird too. Still preordering a Regult and a Monster. Links, if anyone wants 'em: 1/72 Destroid Spartan http://www.hlj.com/product/BAN966790 1/72 Destroid Defender http://www.hlj.com/product/BAN966790 1/72 Standard Regult http://www.hlj.com/product/BAN966788 1/200 Destroid Monster http://www.hlj.com/product/BAN966791
  6. I think it's supposed to have a distinct 'anime' look to it, rather than more modern-styled renderings that has a lot of mechanical textures added. It has an 80s feel, to me. Very true to the earliest line-art. I'm really pleased with what I see of the Glaug!!!
  7. Sweet buildups, Ron. I got pics of your Spartan tucked into my Spartan's box, for reference when I get around to building mine.
  8. Very nice indeed. And I totally agree with you about the heads.
  9. Thanks for your detailed notes on that, Renato. I was really curious which I'd need to look for, especially since I'm still watching on a non-BD interlace setup. Honestly, I haven't found anything more reliable thus far for clarity than my old 1980s Japanese release VHS. A little dark, but no interlace or compression issues...
  10. Instruction scans from the vintage Defender. Assembly and detailing. This was my first Macross kit, and one of my first mecha kits. Before that was Gundam, which wasn't anywhere nearly as detailed, articulated and 'serious'. (Gundam still had a heavy Super Robot feel.) I must honestly note, however: much to the disappointment of many, the Spartan does not have missile clusters or opening shoulder hatches.
  11. Seriously, what do you want the Monster to do? It wasn't all that mobile in the show, and the kit certainly was capable of pretty much every pose the big green lumbering cannon-cow managed on screen. The arms are much more articulated than the test shot demonstrates. Yeah, the legs only move forward & back, but they do it at the hips, knees and ankles. Fine by me, both in 1985 and now. Especially for only $25. Wave would charge me $80+ that I absolutely don't have to spend. These 1/72 kits are really great, especially for the price point and the nostalgia. Any competant modeller can make a decents show of 'em, and have been for 2 & a half decades.
  12. A 1/6 is much taller. I haven't taken any shots with it an a 1/60, but I did compare it to a couple of 1/100 items and a 3&3/4" Matchbox Zentraedi figure back in the thread here: http://www.macrossworld.com/mwf/index.php?showtopic=32529&view=findpost&p=836485
  13. Want. Sigh. I need a better-paying job...
  14. If the kit is in an environment that suffers extreme changes between hot and cold, dry and damp over the course of extended periods of time (like an uninsulated attic or storage shed in the northeast US, for example) you can have some negative results on the paper elements of the kit. But you'll probably notice any potential issues the moment you pick up the box. Mildew smell, dirt on the box, etc.
  15. I'd also be interested in an update on the Exclusive DYRL Heavy Missile Regult as well. http://photos.actionfigs.com/robotech/p54165-robotech.html
  16. Would someone be willing to scan the sticker sheet at a high resolution.. for - ah - 'archival' interests... yeah?
  17. I've been getting back into flying model rocketry this summer after about 30 years... I just finished this - a 17" rocket by Custom Rocket Company. Stock name is "Ion Pulsar", but I did this one up in darker colors. The rivets give it a really 'classic SciFi' look. I call it "Iron Horizon", and will probably fly it next month at the local rocketry group launch. Pretty good for cardboard, balsa, primer and putty I think. (Nosecone is plastic, though)
  18. Yeah - That happens because the parts are painted, then glued. The glue won't bind well on painted surfaces. One of my daughter's little friends who loves my mecha toys was playing with my Missile Regult, and he popped one of the glued knee parts. The look of horror on his face was priceless! I told him not to worry, and had it fixed up in about 10 minutes.
  19. Yayyyy! I don't feel toooo bad about shelling out $40 each for the 1/72 Defender and Spartan in the vintage market a year or so ago. Now I can have a new Monster and Regult plamodel. I can't imagine they'd go to the effort to re-tool them into snap kits. Still, weirder things have happened. Either way, I'd be happy!
  20. 1/55 Super VF-1S. For me, it's the essential Macross toy. There are a couple others that run really close for me. But if someone said "You gotta sell all your Macross toys except for one," that would be the one I would keep.
  21. Humn! I wonder what happened to the vintage-style white box art? Not that this final version is bad in any way whatsoever. I'm just curious. Does Wave ever producer posters or larger advert fliers of box art? If so, I'll need to have a friend in Japan keep her eye out for me.
  22. Great to see John's kits being built-up, and not left to languish in their boxes! Here's my Kamjin. There's a magnet in his torso and metal connectors on his two alternate heads so I can swap them out for display. My only other of John's kits is the smaller edition of his Zentraedi Scout Ship, but it's only primed and placed on a stand right now. Maybe I'll finish it this weekend.
  23. Ditto. I can't think of any place in its design where one might have worked its way loose from, either.
  24. Nice work, Exo! I'm thinking of grabbing a bazooka to have for the day when I actually get one of these Ride Armors of my own...
