Oihan and Vifam7 - Thanks for the info, guys. Sounds to me the shipping price is reasonable from amazon.jp. I am suprised that amazon.jp doesn't package their item very well. That would be on par with amazon here in the states. I wouldn't mind a slight dent to the box, but I don't want the BD discs to be thrashed on its way. Especially a $420+ investment. Kinda of odd that DHL will bill you for duties and taxes. Is there a threshold before you have to pay duties and taxes for dvds? Oihan - In my opinion, I think you should keep your preorder. Granted the BD LE boxset is expensive, this one has more goodies and special features that the last previous Macross LE dvd box set didn't have. For me, I am trying to track down a second-hand dvd box set to add in my collection, which I haven't had much luck. Also, I get the feeling it will be a while before we get a re-release of AnimEigo in BD. Even if it is released, there will be barely any linear notes or special features that would be included in the box.

FYI - Just checked Cdjapan - The limited edition box set is available again for preorder. Hurry up and preorder it before it goes out of stock again.

For those who preorder the SDF TV BD box set, did you guys ordered from cdjapan or amazon.jp? I am thinking amazon.jp since it is cheaper. Do you guys have any experience with them? Are there any import tax I should be aware about if it is ship to the US? Thanks!

I would agree. Although it would be nice to buy LLA separately, my feeling is most likely it is going to be part of the box set. I hope they can include some goodies besides the discs.

I guess I have to join in the discussion as well. Cdjapan had about 22 LE box sets yesterday early morning (West Coast time). By the time my preorder was completed (around 5 minutes) it was already down to 15. Didn't know it was going to be that hot of a seller for a 30 year old Macross movie. Then again it is Macross: DYRL! For those who live in Los Angeles area and want to order the LE box, there are two places you can try (I preordered at two places before cdjapan): 1) Torrance area: Asahiya Express Bookstore inside Marukai market. They do special orders for blu-rays. You will be paying the full MSRP for the box set. The lady at the counter told me it will cost $210 + tax, which I think it is not too bad considering shipping and the (crappy) exchange rate. Plus, she said they will try to get it to me on the day of its official release - The day of my birthday!!! Nice!!! The only thing is that they are unsure if they can get it since it is a hybrid disk (Movie+Game). However, if they don't call me that they can't get it from now til near the release date, then I am all good. 2) West LA: Hyper Game at Sawtelle. This small little shop is where you can get the latest JP video games in LA. Prices for any JP games brand new are expensive. I have seen them sell the 2nd Macross F movie (Regular Edition) when it came out. The owner of the shop is currently in Japan til April 4th, but I was still able to preorder it from his assistant. I will get the pricing info and arrival date when he comes back. I think it will be around $200 + tax as well. Will update this when I get more information.

You are very welcome GGemini. Actually what you can do is to spam the EX missions that has the fighter you are using for Chronicles Missions. Most of the fighters' points are usually near the end of each era missions. You might have to use some accumulated points in the beginning, but around 30K - 40K you will be starting to get S/SS on those EX missions. You will make up all the lost points and more in no time I totally agree that these missions are much much longer. Another suggestion is to knock out the weaker enemies quickly. That will give you more space to deal with aces/bosses and fill up the sp bar quicker. It won't always work especially DYRL and Frontier final missions. You actually have to eliminate all the weaker ones before you after the boss to get that SS. All that dodging and moving is pretty tedious IMO. You the man, Hulagu! I bet alot of your VF-OAs got shot downed by the Chronicles AFOS in getting that SS. Probably more like a graveyard of VF-0As floating in the sea. hahaha Did you save that mission? I am sure alot of MWers want to see that accomplishment. Out of curiorsity why did you purge your fast pack before fighting Nora and DD? Wouldn't it be better to let it be destroyed first? When fighting the AFOS did you target the main body/head? Yes, I agree that this AFOS version fights dirtier than the era one. I found out that single lockon missiles generally work better than multilock on missles since damage/enemy is much higher and you can switch targets much faster. Almost forgot when playing Macross Chronicles Skull Leader Forever, you must protect Kakizaki through out the first mission. That is a major determinate between S (dies) or SS (survived). There is quite a bit of aces that can wipe him out. Have fun!

I learn a couple stratagies for Chronicle Missions (Got alot of S/SS except for bosses missions - though still working on Mac 7): The best thing to do is max out each valkyrie as much as possible (+70K). You would need to upgrade all of the valk's characteristics, main gun, songs, and missles (you will need all the missiles you can get), and hand to hand combat. Lasers won't help much at this stage. Reactive missiles are only good for large or stationary targets. Not good for small ones unless you are pretty far away (even then hitting/damaging them is remote). Hand to hand combat is a must in Chronicles especially CQB with Miria in DRYL. Somehow it produces more damage against unknown aces (though I could be wrong about it ). After that fly away or dodge the enemy - the chance of them SP attacking you is pretty high. Be able to do dodge fast and use flares against multiple missles. Recognize enemies SP attacks especially large beam ones. Get caught in one long enough you might as well restart the mission again. Learn not to rely on fast/armor packs too much - Here's my reason: Though have the packs give you additional fire power and kills the enemies much faster - certain stronger enemies/aces/bosses will knock out your fast pack faster than you can use your sp more than twice. Dodging and flares do help extend the Ar/FP hp. In my opinion is kinda mess'd up that you have to eject your fast pack after your armor hp goes to 0 especially when fighting AFOS or Boddole Zer. Lastly, learn to be patient and take breaks!!! The last thing you want is to throw or smash your psp b/c you couldn't beat Chronicle AFOS for the 15th time!!! Try both Chronicles with "super-dimension hard" at the same time. Then we got something to talk regarding patience. I think the reason why Chronicles and "super-dimension hard" is so difficult is that it forces the casual gamer to stratagize more how to attack and counterattack the enemy than blindly blasting everything in sight. It is very similar to EX Friendly Fire in MAF.

Hi Everyone, I hope everyone is enjoying their holiday and playing MAF. There has been some concern with a game glitch on MAF. It has happen to me on two ocassions. It warrants its own topic. The game freezes when you run the intro of a mission (in mine it is the first macross mission) and another is when you save and replay any one of your game missions (DRYL for me sadly). Later it will shut down your PSP. Somehow it might be related to a software glitch or continous skipping of mission intros. I have the original HK PSP player, it will affect on all PSP (new or old). When you save a new data, it does not have the glitch at least in the beginning. However, it might happen as you progress or replay missions over again. Solution: The best thing is to skip the mission intro to prevent the glitch and shut down. There isn't much else unless there is a patch or something to fix it. Hope this helps.

I am down with it since I am coming home to LA from NY for the holidays too. Let have a Macross Winter/Christmas party or dinner. Please no pineapple salad or cake. -
Do anyone know how many Macross Chronicles there will be? 25? 30? Any guesses?

Not sure if anyone talked about this.....I just check out one of the latest Overdrive Blog on Yamato and saw my dream bicycle in FOCKER STYLE!!!! Check out the pics from Overdrive. If the price is right and can be a 12 speed bike, then I am all for buying one!

Not to burst anyone's bubble, I copied a line from yahoo financial news: "In currencies, the dollar weakened to 97.55 yen from 97.70 late Wednesday in New York." I feel the crunch too and plan to go to back collecting books, cds, and some dvds next year. I will be even more picky on what toys I will buy now. Hopefully and maybe Yamato's toys will be more affordable than before, but that's wishful thinking.......
-
@ Golden Arms - Currently 99.9% of my toys are in their original boxes except the 1/60 VE-1. That box was too huge when I had to ship that one back from HK. Agree that some box designs are more appealing than others (i.e. 1/48s). The most appealing and best box design in my collection is the Transformers Collection Series 0-21. Yamato could learn from Takara in that department. Once I go back, I probably have to think which to keep or get rid off. You are right that 1/48s are huge. I do have several big plastic bins that I put my other toys in which are in boxes too. Do you think it is a good idea to flatten the boxes and put them in a plastic box or put in a narrow corridor? My family is wary of using a storage unit. My dad's stereo and camera printing equipment was stolen when we were moving into our new house when I was young. It cost him couple grand to buy his stuff and I remember he wasn't a very happy camper losing his stuff. However, it is not a bad idea if someone needs a temp storage place for the time being to sort out stuff. You are right that collectors like us will have to face how to manage space. The challenge is to prioritize what is important to us. @ Sharky - Ah, the famous Case Logic system as I always say. I started doing that before I left for grad school especially with used dvds from blockbuster. Do you have an issues with scratches when pulling the dvds in and out? Like you, I only purchase Cds and Dvds that have special interest to me. Right now my cds are either in a drawer or in a specific anime plastic box. I had a chance to look at those MDF dvd shelves at walmart before. The prices are reasonable and easy to assemble like you said. Ikea is not a bad place to look at too, if there is one near by you. I am thinking about displaying my audio and movie collection in my room because right now it looks really bland. When I was shifting through my audio stuff, I decided to keep my VHS tapes and laserdiscs since it took a long time to find and buy. It was sentimental value to me when I was a kid. Storaging your audio and movie files on the computer/laptop is always a good idea. Especially if you traveling. I learned this well over the years. Two things I dislike is selecting music that you like if you have a huge collection and losing your files if your computer gets corrupted/crashes. Backing up your files is so critical. My opinion is to have your books upright on a bookshelf. If you have alot of books, like me, having a bookshelf system will save you alot of space and make the room look clean and visually appealing. In my case, my sister and I agree to possibly turn my room into a library/entertainment room with a bed in it since I might not come back to home often especially if I get a job in NY. It just make sense to devote some time in making a "playroom." I would recommend to buy/find some clear plastic coverings for your books that has high value to you to minimize them from turning yellow or being affected by other molds. You should display your collection as much as you can.

My sis gave me a call today saying my room is being rearranged for new furniture and trashing old paper and what nots. Since I am away for grad school in NYC, I can't do much now in the process. However, I am planning to create some space for new and old stuff in my room during winter break. I need some suggestions or advice in maxing my room space. Should I take out my 1/48s, 1/55s, 1/60 v.1s, transformers, mospeada, gundam, and etc and display them? Flatten the boxes or throw them away? Should I store my books in boxes (which they are in) or put them on a book shelf. What do you do with your massive dvds, tapes, cds? I feel I am going to become an interior decorator when I get back. All inputs and pics are welcome!
