I believe they had an ad for those sketches (genga / douga) after one of the trailers. They also released a book with all the drawings from the original movie. I have to get that one myself.

They put up the first 15 minutes or so of the new movie on youtube and it looked pretty good.

Really? I would think a pretty blonde girl and bike would sell fast. But I haven't seen a good figure of Rook yet. Perhaps that's why. Still I think releasing basically two of the same bike at a high price wasn't a good idea. I guess they were waiting on sales to go ahead with Rook. I would love to know their sales projections and how they thought it was going to work out. I don't live in Japan so I don't know how they marketed and sold the line. Perhaps one day I'll try to commission something. I want both the Cyclone and Rook. The Cyclone will be the difficult part.

I can't remember when the Rook Cyclone / Ride Armor was first previewed. However, I do remember people both here and on Robotech.com forums wanted it. Have there ever been Kickstarter toys? Maybe Toynami should have looked into that. Or they can now. It's really the least they can do. The big Comic Convention is next week and Anime Expo is this weekend. I wonder what Toynami will have for anime fans? I still believe that Beagle should have released Rook first. The girls sell fast. Then they can make the others. Few people were going to buy two of the same Cyclone. I would have purchased Rook and Lancer. Then maybe Rand. Scott's bike gives me too many nightmares from that older version.

Do you prefer TV or DYRL paint scheme?
JetJockey replied to potatotomato's topic in Movies and TV Series
DYRL only because it made the jets look so much more realistic. I still like the TV colors though. I always ask myself do I need a Max blue valkyrie. -
Yeah I think or hope that people have had enough with these weak re-releases of the same thing. If Toynami wants to make something finish Rook's Cyclone Ride Armor. Or get some company in Japan to make high quality Alpha Fighters. I haven't seen one yet. Honestly, it's kind of surprising to me that a company like Toynami still exists.

I thought that was a joke when saw the designs and learned it was for a Gatchaman anime. I didn't even bother giving it my time. Same goes for the live action version. Too bad we never got the American movie version. The designs weren't the best but they were better than these two recent shows from Japan.

I'm getting her to go with Batgirl and Huntress. Too bad Kotobukiya stiffed us on the bird sculpture on the base. I didn't like the face either when they showed pictures at the last Japanese figure show. It's acceptable since Motoko's look changes a lot in SAC depending on the animators. But it's not her best look. I still think the Alter / Vice one is the figure to own.

I see this news as a good thing. The people that like Tron Legacy all talk about the soundtrack, Olivia Wilde, and the look of The Grid. Or they didn't grow up with the original Tron or like it that much to begin with. Tron Legacy is the worst kind of product movie and if they never get around to a sequel, which it looks like they won't, then I'm glad it failed. If you get a chance to make a movie it should be the best movie you can make. It shouldn't be a movie filled with stuff for sequels and compromises for a target audience. A movie that cares so little for the title character that they leave him falling to the bottom of a lake after a bad twist. I'm sure they had multiple scripts. There was talk about different writers. I imagine they had tons of different "pitches" and story ideas. Olivia Wilde seemed to read or hear storylines. Quorra in the real world focus sounds so wrong. No one really wants to see that. Certainly not in a movie that started off being about videogames and going inside computer worlds.

They finally shut down the figures topic on Neogaf. They went too far. I hope you guys post about when those figure shows happen in Japan. There aren't many sites that follow that sort of thing.

'Jem and the Holograms' Live action
JetJockey replied to Old_Nash's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Which is really bad because those G.I. Joe movies are terrible. Even though I haven't seen the second one yet. Jem was 80s anime cool. I still look for cels and sketches on occasion. I read a post on another forum that basically said they turned Jem into a youtube / tv singing contest star. I wish I could say that I'm surprised but I'm not. I remember early images and the people involved. I knew this wasn't going to be anything special. The sad thing is people will still see this mess. Not to them it isn't a waste. They just latched on to something known. Parents that grew up in the 80s might still take their kids. Even if it's just 50% of them. Then there is the audience for youtube / tv singing contests. That trailer will get them. It's not for people that actually liked Jem. Not that I watched more than a few episodes. Even this misses the anime look. Jem was more adult looking.- 136 replies

I only purchased a shirt and I think mousepad from them before. That was long ago. I didn't get anything crazy in my inbox. But knowing what I know now, I wish I didn't buy from them. Yeah very professional. I've had other companies / people do this sort of thing before. I stop using them when it happens.

Ghost in the Shell Live Action - March 31, 2017
JetJockey replied to Mechinyun's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Sometimes it's clear when a bad movie is incoming. The Khan slip by the actors in a Star Trek into Darkness interview was one of those moments. Even though most knew it was Khan and a bad idea. That slip got them off the prepared marketing direction. This might be one of those times. http://screenrant.com/scarlett-johansson-ghost-in-shell-movie-2017/ Scarlett is the reason this movie is supposedly going ahead. Why doesn't she know more? Why isn't she saying how she read the manga or saw the original movie and TV series. How she's looking forward to doing a live action version of the character and treating that character with the respect she deserves? That she saw concept art, read the script, and is excited about the project. I believe this interview answer is the scripted answer until the studio decides how they will sell the movie. Which isn't a good sign.- 751 replies

I'm catching up on 12 Monkeys and during the beginning of an episode in an 80s Japanese club they are playing the intro to Zillion Burning Night. I immediately caught it as I love that opening song and the anime. I was looking around to see if they actually had a clip of the anime or videogame in the background but they didn't.

I thought Independence Day was really bad. I hope if they make a Robotech movie it doesn't turn out as generic as that. Robotech was serious and kind of scary to me as a kid. I didn't get how Roy died but that was one of those things that made it more than just a cartoon.

What did they do? I wanted to get the game but I heard all that start up stuff could be skipped with a button press. It's not like a cutscene. That should always be part of the game when you get that sort of joystick setup. At least that's my thinking.
-
That bad. I just read about it being full of fan service somewhere. I'll probably get it soon to see for myself. Is there a version to get that isn't censored like the original Ghost in the Shell manga.

I think I had both of these when I was young. I don't think I liked Robo Kid that much. A bad feeling came to mind looking at that artwork. I might have owned Aero Blasters on another system. I checked youtube and the music was more familiar on the Turbografx. There are a few topics going on about movie sequels like Tron, of course the new Star Wars, and always anime toys. I was remembering how I felt about these anime, movies, and videogames back in the day. These were new and different. In the case of anime it was a foreign and more stylized feel. But all these new things were cool. I know I go though dry periods with anime. So I get surprised when something new comes out that gives me the same feelings as the older stuff. The first Ghost in the Shell movie was like that. Stand Alone Complex as well. I think the music helps. The new opening tune for Alternative Architecture has a similar feel. Is there anything upcoming that has that newness about it?

I kind of remember US Renditions. I think I got Dangaio and Gunbuster from them too. Not sure what else. I have to think about that now.

Starting with the last and best episode of Arise is strange. It's like I posted somewhere that the direction of this series is strange. Like they didn't have a clear idea of where they were going with the series. So far all the versions online cut out the new opening. Someone put up the music though. It is good and the best from the Arise series so far. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U7DuRYkthjU Did they show any artwork? This is the first I've heard of a new Ghost in the Shell manga. They could have made another SAC with the origin of Section 9. But maybe the people that worked on it were tired. And even then, the small bits we saw of younger Motoko in SAC were good enough for me. Sometimes we don't need the full history of a character unless it's something really interesting. I still haven't read Man Machine Interface yet. From what I heard it's not as good as the original. As much as I prefer the original creator being involved you never know. Look at what happened to Star Wars. I think Quentin Tarantino might be right. He talked about how directors start going down when they get older. That might be true.

That's kind of what I thought. That it had to be the Robotech Macross Saga. Not pure Macross Japanese version. I haven't seen Robotech in so long do they actually use the name Macross in the show? I can't remember. It's still surprising how all this mess happened with I assume smart people back in the day. It's worse than the Marvel stuff with different companies having rights to certain properties. Didn't Harmony Gold release Macross II? Not sure about Macross Plus. It is odd that they would release or allow those two and not Frontier. I'm kind of confused now. I do remember first seeing The Sentinels and thinking that the animation was different from the original. It wasn't as fluid. But I still got as much as I could. I have the record, the Art of The Sentinels, and the paperback books. I think there were 5 of them. I did have the comics but sold those. I might have sold the original VHS tape too.

Do you mean power or ability to get another US company to finance it? I thought they could do whatever they wanted with the Macross Saga as long as it was under the title Robotech. I guess the fact that the Kickstarter failed and I think that was for a TV show, shows that there isn't much interest in a Robotech project. But you never know. Some producer might find a good script and turn it into Robotech. Convince a bunch of producers or actors that the project will make money. Depending on how successful the American Ghost in the Shell turns out, I could see that happening with Robotech.

There is an arcade marquee topic here with another forum link. It gave me an idea for Tron Legacy. I saw this one and came up with a few different ideas. Basically what would the new Tron Legacy marquee look like. Also there is something else with Quorra and Gem but I have to keep that off the forum. People who want to know send a message. I need to watch it again soon. It’s on Showtime now for those that don’t have the DVD or Blu-ray. I don’t know how Flynn was hacking into the system in the opening of the movie. I haven’t used a terminal since the mid 90s and forgot how those were connected. But I’m sure that they were talking systems. The MCP threatened Dillenger early in the movie with putting something up on a newspaper he could get into. Also that he got into other companies before. There was a lot of talk about different systems. The type of programs there. I think RAM or the program Flynn first fights is an accounting program. The Game Grid, as it was originally called, was in a different system or area. I think Yori mentioned that during the solar sailer trip. Of course there weren’t networked arcade videogames back then. Also there are many I/O towers seen during Flynn’s transport sequence and after the MCP is defeated. The more I think about it the more I’m amazed by the original movie. I’m feeling 80s nostalgia a bit. I searched and not only are just about all of the old arcades I used to go to closed but some of the malls are as well. I too think Tron was way ahead of it’s time. To think of all the ideas they had in 1982. The Internet and what you could call popular computing didn’t catch on till mid to late 90s, somewhere around the time of Windows 95, I think. I remember it was a big deal that I had a portable computer in 1994. It was even a skill to be able to type quickly on a computer. I think there were a lot of “inside” type movies. The sort of thing where worlds were bigger or were unseen by humans. I remember Journey to the Center of the Earth. I know there was a remake. But the original was good I think. Also Honey I Shrunk the Kids. There was a human body one too. I think Tron’s basic starting premise back then was similar to those. I barely remember The Last Starfighter. So much that it feels like I never saw it. I think it was about a kid with a high score that gets recruited by aliens or something. I’ll see that again one day. Anyone remember the Cloak and Dagger movie? It was a spy and videogame mix. That was a good one. I remember playing the game in arcades.

Motoko looks a bit better but this is confirmed an Arise movie now. I thought it was going to be something more. Also it's never a good idea, even if it's an anniversary year, to show all the previous well regarded series then to preview the most recent one which isn't as good. It makes you wonder what happened with the new one.

I would have purchased this back in the day but I'm just seeing it now. Usually stuff like this isn't assembled or painted. I love the Thunderforce series. Part V is a good one. I have the version with the soundtrack on Saturn. I still haven't played Thunderforce 6. I heard it wasn't that good. But the opening music is nice. I'll probably hunt this ship down. Perhaps I'll search for reviews this weekend. I would like a few of the Thunderforce ships, the Vic Viper, Axelay ship, Philosoma ship, and a few others.
