That's funny. Looking at the picture of the Black Lion I thought he was pulling himself on a rug like animals do when they have an itch. I found this yesterday on another robot forum. I'm still going through it to see what else they have. I don't think anyone mentioned it yet. It's an official version of the Mad Toys Voltron. I remember many liked the build quality on the King of Beasts one. Now that it's more accurate, it looks a lot better. It's still not 100% anime accurate but maybe it's a good middle ground until someone makes an anime accurate Voltron. Or at least good enough for me since I only have my old one and this is probably equal or better than the original diecast Matchbox version. Especially since it has better proportions and weapons. They also have a more limited black version in the works. I'm still watching to see how the Sideshow statue will look. But since that is more modern, static, and probably very expensive. I can't see myself getting that.

Riding Bean Kickstarter BD now live!
JetJockey replied to Dangard Ace's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
I need to go over it a bit more, but the campaign is already better than the Bubblegum Crisis one. From what I saw there is an artbook and new Kenichi Sonoda art for the case. And this is at a cheaper price too, I think the $50 price point. Too bad they couldn't do this for Bubblegum Crisis which to me is far superior. I watched Riding Bean fairly recently for the first time, like in the last year and wasn't crazy about it. I always remembered that one trailer on so many anime VHS tapes that I own. It has the car with the trick wheels and grenades getting dropped on it from a semi truck. A very exciting trailer but kind of a let down anime. -
I've seen those and was shocked at the quality. I think people might buy them for the card artwork. Because they aren't figures that I can see anyone using for display. Or maybe they are very limited and people think they will sell in a few years for good money. I first heard about those figures on a poster / print forum I think where people are always flipping posters. GI Joe figures were a lot better. I think GI Joe was the top figure in that size. And of course the card artwork was better too.

Without starting a flame topic, part of me feels that the people who don't like Spectre aren't the biggest Bond fans to begin with. They either hate the formula or think Casino Royale or even Skyfall are the best Bond movies. I think Spectre is Daniel Craig's best Bond film. It's the first time he's really played Bond if you look at his character in all his previous movies. Yes, that airplane chase was straight out of The World is not Enough method of thinking. Save the girl and get some of her trust just like the scene with Elektra. But it did have a bit of a Licence to Kill shot homage with the plane. And Hinx was awesome in all his scenes. The world of Spectre is exotic and fun like the old Bond movies. Yet still dangerous. Too bad it took Daniel Craig four movies to make this one. But it's a good one to go out on. I would be surprised if he comes back. The ending pretty much closed the book on his Bond and it would be perfect for a reboot now. That's another thing that I think people missed or forgot about how Spectre works. Yes blowing stuff up is what happens in these movies. But Spectre in particular always self destructed their bases when found out from the beginning. Dr. No said it, that he would destroy the base and move on. Also You Only Live Twice had the lever to blow up the base. There is the shot in Spectre of Blofeld and a few trucks leaving. I took that as them blowing up the base as they knew it would be raided.

I've been searching around for the old Creations line of artbooks by Movic. I own a few myself: Dangaio 2 Creations, Gunbuster, and Zillion Creations 2. I want to know if anyone has other Creations artbooks from old anime shows? Or from the 1st and 3rd Dangaio episodes? I know there is a 1st Creations book for Zillion. Thanks.

Smart bet considering their last anniversary Voltron with the key was and might still be in a few store bargain bins. It's still anime accurate or nothing for me. The lions look a bit better. But still not what I want.

I have that B-Club too. You've got me thinking about what that other book might be now. I'm still trying to remember where I saw more details about that ending. If it was here, online, or in a book somewhere. I can't wait to get that Blu-ray. I would hope this would get more interest here. Or perhaps the Blu-ray could mean there is fan interest and we could get figures of the girls. Or better / less expensive than that last release models of the ships. Still this is good as I only have my VHS versions.

My mind immediately went to Toynami when I saw the first image of those figures. It wasn't surprising that yes, these are coming from Toynami. Who buys this stuff?

There is an Arise Motoko figure coming out from Kotobukiya. Even though I don't really like the Arise Motoko design that much, the pose is pure Motoko and I'll probably have to get her. I guess the days of movie and SAC Ghost in the Shell figures are just about over at this point.

That Max Factory is the best Minmay figure I've seen. Her face could be better. But at 1/20 that could be the best they can do and she shouldn't be only 1/20. What are they thinking?
-
I was thinking about that last night going back and forth between images. I think the original. Maybe if they did more with the tan version. I think I like the tan version's base coloring a bit more. Expensive too. Lucky for me I don't like the Arise version that much. Maybe they will go backwards and make a movie and SAC version after.

That's dangerous for anything. Cels, books, comics, etc. Even with UV protection I would be wary of sunlight hitting valuable paper or other materials. Maybe section off a room for that sort of thing.

That's amazing that great anime cels would sit unpurchased. Do you remember the prices back then? I can't remember exactly when I realized that you could get a cel from an anime show. When I became aware of cels or just drawings or prints from cartoons for sale it was for Disney or other animation in gallery stores. But I know I saw cels at Disney and it clicked that this was what was on screen. And that you could get a cel, pause a cartoon or anime, and say I have what's on screen. That's the coolest thing. Perhaps these Japanese dealers didn't do a good job in the early days of making collectors or fans aware. If there was a photo in one of those Nikaku catalogs of Robotech on TV and of the matching cel from the scene next to it, that would have clicked for me. I would be surprised if Nikaku sold cels back then. We always used to look forward to those catalogs and would go through them multiple times looking for good stuff. And I would order with a friend of mine. He would have said something about cels.

Macross Δ (Delta) - NYE Special Talkback - READ 1st POST
JetJockey replied to azrael's topic in Movies and TV Series
Well I'm not negative about it. But not really positive either. I was whistling some of that last song after watching it. But from what I saw it's not one of my favorite first episodes of a Macross series. But I'll give it another chance when it's finished with the opening titles. -
I would like to see scans of those listings. I remember Books Nippan. I would order from them and Nikaku. I remember Nikaku had a small foldout brochure. Also someone told me they found their amazing Macross DYRL gengas at I think a US Mandarake store. But I might be wrong. All I ordered at that time were artbooks, soundtracks, pencil boards, and posters. There still weren't many subtitled VHS anime shows. So most anime I watched were bootlegs. The most expensive thing I ever saw back then was the Gold Book for $100 at a comic shop. And that was luck as it was high on a shelf and I only recognized it by the Robotech logo. Or what I thought was the Robotech logo at the time. And $100 was out of line for a book to me then. I thought they were lying. On a side note, I find it funny how everyone calls it the Gold Book. I called it that by default and when I went searching for it before eBay I would say I'm looking for the Robotech Gold Book. Anyway, with a $100 book, I even wonder what good cels would have been priced at back then. I just can't imagine a time when I could get a good cel with background of Dana on her hovercycle or commanding the 15th in her hovertank. I've yet to see one to this day. California seems to be the place back then to get cels. I lived in the Midwest. So it was only mail order for me. California also had the comic and anime conventions. Do you remember if those brick and mortar Japanese cel stores were like the older I think WB or perhaps Disney Gallery Stores? I remember there were a few American animation companies with art stores in malls. This was perhaps in 1990 or 1992. Around the time Disney was releasing popular animated movies. More and more I think good cels are one of a kind. When I see a good cel it's rare to see multiples from that sequence. For example I've been looking at the recent Dirty Pair OVA Opening cels on Yahoo Japan auctions. I've never seen those before. If I wasn't focused on Project Eden I would probably try for a few of those. But I have a feeling that if you miss those, you'll be lucky to see them again. And forget about good cels, there are some shows that I've never even seen cels from.

I found the artbook I was looking for on one of my old excel spreadsheets. It's called Dangaio 2 Creations by Movic. I'm still searching for a version with episode 1 and 3 though. I might start a topic with these artbooks as I thought they were pretty good.
-
I saw those. They did go for cheap. I guess people aren't into Dangaio. I didn't get them because I want the characters or a full body cel of Dangaio. I might have asked this but there was a Dangaio artbook. I own it but it's packed away somewhere. But I think the artbook is from episode 2. There are similar artbooks for Gunbuster and I think Zillion. It was a wide format artbook with I think a horizontal format. I was wondering if they made one for Dangaio episodes 1 and 3.

There is a Queen's Blade I think figure that's like that. I want a re-release of the real version of her. I hate it when I debate getting a figure only to see her reach high prices.

Fantastic Four Review Disclaimer - I still haven’t read the original Fantastic Four #1 comic. But I read the Jim Lee reboot, the Ultimate version which I liked and this movie is based on, and a bunch of other comics with the group. And I do think somehow they need to get Spider-Man and the Fantastic Four together on screen. I had to do a review because I think people jumped on the hate wagon for this movie. I don’t know why either. Maybe it was the fact that Marvel Studios wasn’t making the movie. Maybe it was the casting. Or that it’s more a science fiction story than a superhero one. I have no clue. But this movie isn’t that bad. To me even though it doesn’t have better action sequences, it’s actually better or a more enjoyable movie than Spider-Man 3, Amazing Spider-Man 2, Iron Man 2, Iron Man 3, X-Men 3, Thor 2, Blade 3, both Hulk movies, and many others that I could continue to list. And even though most hold them to high regard I would watch Fantastic Four before watching Spider-Man and Spider-Man 2 again as well since I find the whole Mary Jane focus boring. Also those movies are not exactly like the original Spider-Man comics which few so called comic geeks cared about back then. And of course Fantastic Four is far better than those last two movies which I can’t even remember. The origin story is handled well. It’s up there with the better origin stories in comic book movies. In fact the origin story is the majority of the movie. The horror at what happens to the characters is something different too. I’ve always thought Johnny’s powers were cool but I think this is the first time I thought how scary it would be. Probably the weakest part of the origin story is how Doom is handled. He just becomes a bad guy but I never felt he was a bad guy. It’s on the level of Anakin’s turn in Revenge of the Sith. Because of the Doom character, I think the movie falls apart at the end. We get some action scenes and they feel like they are there because they’re supposed to be. Superhero movies always have a big battle at the end. But this story should be a more personal one. If you look at one of the best superhero movies like The Incredibles, that setup the bad guy to do what he was doing at the end. Here Doom is the bad guy because that’s what’s needed so he does bad guy stuff and we need an end of the world situation. And honestly I’m still not sure how everything happens at the end of the big battle. The actors playing the Fantastic Four do a good job. They were believable and you could see them becoming a team during the early scenes. On the change to Johnny though, it’s funny how people come up with all sorts of reasons supporting Scarlett Johansson as Motoko or whatever she’ll be named in the Ghost in the Shell movie. But Johnny Storm as a black guy seems to be off limits. Honestly the previous Fantastic Four movies were so bad that I barely remember Chris Evans’ performance in them and he’s a far better actor now anyway and good as Captain America. Michael Jordan is just as cool as Human Torch as I think he is from the comics I’ve read. And I’ve purchased comics just for Human Torch covers. Johnny and Sue are my favorite characters in the Fantastic Four. Johnny just happens to be black in this version and is still the coolest in the group. I believed that Johnny and Sue were brother and sister. At least far more than I believed that Jessica Alba was a scientist in the previous movies, which was not at all. And for this reboot some change was bound to happen. They weren’t going to change Reed. Nor were they going to make The Thing a minority character. So it was either Sue or Johnny. So step into the different race marriage debate or change the other one. I think the failure of the movie might be down to management or even the original story not being completely thought out. Which in theory should be the director’s fault as he should be in control of everything. Of course there was tweet from the director on the release week but many directors remove their name from the movie when they don’t approve of changes and that didn’t happen with Fantastic Four. In the end, Fantastic Four isn’t the horrible failure that many would lead you to believe. There are many far worse superhero movies and yet the number of truly great superhero movies is fairly small. Fantastic Four is a bit above average and fans of the characters should still check it out.

I'm sure I asked this before. But I'm watching Southern Cross and just thinking about scenes. Anyway, how many of you guys were collecting or knew about cels in the 80s and 90s? I was purchasing anime stuff then but I didn't know about cels. No one told me I could own a scene from the show. Did you guys that were collecting cels then see a ton of Southern Cross cels? What about Mospeada?

Star Trek Beyond (the not The Search for Spock)
JetJockey replied to areaseven's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
I wasn't going to watch the trailer. I was going to give the new director a chance to do something different than what came before with those previous two poor Star Trek movies. But I read a post on Egotastic with some comments and just had to take a look. This looks even worse than the other two movies. With the music on it's like a bad joke. Even more of a parody than the last one. With the music on mute it's still bad. Just like the other two movies it's only Star Trek in name. What is really is, is just a generic space action movie, and I wrote this last night before Wil Wheaton's post. I don't think anymore, I know I can make a better Star Trek movie than what I'm seeing here. Even if Idris Elba is awesome in this, I didn't notice his character anywhere, what's going on in that trailer looks comical at best. I guess I shouldn't be surprised. The same people I assume are behind the production. So they aren't going to go that far from what they think their Star Trek series is about.- 466 replies

The guy who posted that on twitter also said something about the story. He's the guy that runs BadAssDigest. They changed the site name to something I can't remember right now. Anyway, he's usually honest and explains his reviews and they aren't the sort of fan stuff that you would see on other sites. I'm not surprised by the good tweets and word of mouth. It was like that with the prequels and it's like that with many big movies and movies from Abrams. I've seen almost all of his movies and they are just good for action moments. I'm hoping for more from Star Wars since he's supposed to actually like the series.

I checked few days ago and they were close to the funding amount. Although they lowered it. I want to see what the Art of Dragon's Lair book looks like. It was way too much on the campaign. I assume it will be released normally one day. Really? That doesn't sound like a site I would fund then. I like the idea of funded or not. Giving money to something that won't happen because they didn't reach the amount doesn't sound like a good idea.
