Mighty Orbots - New Complete DVD and Other News Topic
JetJockey replied to JetJockey's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
I remember watching Pole Position because like all kids back then I loved the arcade game. I don't remember any of the episodes though. I only remember the opening. I was looking at Mighty Orbots ebay sold auctions and realized that the Complete DVD cover art is just art from the VHS episode Magnetic Menace. So maybe it's just a placeholder. I hope so but I don't know why they would use a placeholder when the DVD is weeks away from release. I saw this sold Mighty Orbots artwork. I'm sure this artist could put together a good piece of art for the cover featuring the whole team. I don't think a Galaxy Rangers reboot would be that good unless it's in the same style or just really high quality animation and stories. I still haven't seen the new Voltron yet but I'm not jumping to see it. I'll get to it eventually though. I hope they are putting some effort into the DVD. But seeing as I stumbled on the news and searching there still isn't that much news postings. I bet it will be fairly light on the extras. I wish they put together a set like Galaxy Rangers. That was a good two volume DVD set. I got a set of sketches from ebay too. I've never seen much production artwork or books for Mighty Orbots so I had to get a set. They still have more copies available and they are cheap. https://www.ebay.com/itm/MIGHTY-ORBOTS-47-PAGES-OF-MODEL-SHEETS-WITH-MULTIPLE-IMAGES/121403033387?hash=item1c442f472b:g:ajkAAOSwAYtWPhZF -
They cancelled the Dropship? Did you see a reason? I wanted to get that and the DeLorean.

I've seen a few people with videos of Kids Logic products. Sometimes these items get delayed. I know one of my Sideshow Collectibles statues was just delayed. And I think the majority of these companies use the same factories. It is bad when they don't provide updates though. I wouldn't be too concerned unless you notice on a forum that many items are delayed or no one is receiving customer support. That could indicate financial issues.

I'm displaying whichever version I get with the visor up. They will probably be in bike mode depending on if they release Rook and Lancer.

I just saw this news. I caught the DVD on ebay doing my usual search and couldn't believe it. http://www.tvshowsondvd.com/news/Mighty-Orbots-The-Complete-Series/24073 It's a manufacture on demand DVD which I've never heard of before. The cover art should be a lot better too. But I'm not going to miss this release. I think we are a step closer to a Mighty Orbots Chogokin now. The opening for those that don't know about the show.

Kickstarter Gunsmith Cats edition
JetJockey replied to Dangard Ace's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
I think there was a reason he didn't make or add AD Police and Crash to the original Kickstarter but I can't remember right now. I know people asked as they were calling it the ultimate set. Maybe if they do get around to AD Police and Crash, they can redo Bubblegum Crisis OVA in the form that they are making Riding Bean and Gunsmith Cats. I've never seen AD Police but I recall Kenichi Sonoda didn't have as much input on Crash as the original Crisis. I know he did the artwork for the three promotional art pieces. I need to check my Sonoda Artworks book for any others. I think I have the Crash B-Club packed away somewhere. The high priced sketch stuff went quick. You needed to be watching to get those. I probably would have gone for one of the original hankens at Anime-Link first though. You guys might like this. -
I saw this Mighty Orbots custom on ebay recently. https://www.ebay.com/itm/JUMBO-ROBERT-like-Mighty-Orbots-3D-Printed-Robot-Figure-by-Mecha-Zone-/112856330861?hash=item1a46c2f26d%3Ag%3A8hgAAOSwG0taobJx&nma=true&si=9VhxG9jvhrpRgAiffSyynBY6YDU%3D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2557 A few people paid good money for these. $232.50 and $275. Also, I think around the last Wonder Fest someone posted a figure of that robot that was supposed to be similar to Mighty Orbots. I can't find the image now. But I believe they will get around to Saber Rider / Bismarck and Mighty Orbots. They can't keep making the same robots in a new line. I'm thinking that Dangaio or Iczer-Robo have to be close to next because of the designer though.

Hmm. This was in a bigger mall, I always assumed it was a chain store. But I'll look into the older independent stores. I just found the mall where I first saw the Macross Gold book. That was an independent type comic / toy store in a smaller type mall compared to the larger style malls with big anchor retailers. But that mall is very different now. In fact it's not really a mall anymore but a strip mall. The interior stores are all gone and replaced by large chain retailers. It's really sad to see. They basically wrecked the interior that had walkways and ponds for places like Bed Bath and Beyond. I don't think that Cyclone was very expensive. I don't imagine it was more than a video game. From what I remember, it was near the front of the store. I know I got the small SD valkyries there as well. I never saw those at the big stores like Toys R Us or Child World. I was leaning that the store might have been a Kay Bee or Circus World.

Hopefully they are quick to get to the next two in the Full Action line so they can make Voltron, Dangaio, Iczer-Robo, and a few others. I assume we won't know about the next ones till the end of the year or so now.

Kickstarter Gunsmith Cats edition
JetJockey replied to Dangard Ace's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
I read that he was going to make Gunsmith Cats next some months ago. I will continue to say I'm disappointed with the first "test" of Bubblegum Crisis OVA as each release has more content that Bubblegum Crisis should have received. Artbooks, manga, etc. To me Bubblegum Crisis is far better than Riding Bean and Gunsmith Cats. They really shouldn't even kickstart this stuff anyways as they are always available after the Kickstarter is over and they have to know at least so far that these are the popular anime series. Maybe they will attempt a more niche one next. -
Does anyone remember the old toy stores, I'm mostly thinking mall toy stores, where they purchased Robotech or Mospeada toys in the 80s? I'm mainly wondering about the Japanese toys that didn't get the Robotech branding. But stores where you purchased Robotech as well could help. Most of the ones I purchased were Mospeada toys that's why I posted it here. This is the Cyclone that gave me nightmares with it crumbling all the time. Image from Anymoon. I know I didn't go to Japan or get them from friends. And with this one specifically I remember noticing the Cyclone and thinking Robotech even though Robotech isn't on the box. Also there were smaller versions. I know I had Rook's Cyclone. It wasn't detailed at all. I think this is it. Also from Anymoon.

I don't think FAO Schwarz had many good toys. I think they had the NES when it was new. Also Smurfs but I remember those being expensive for small figures. Or maybe I didn't like them because they weren't articulated. Or course they had Star Wars. But I remember the good stuff was always at KayBee, Toys R Us, Circus World, and Child World. There might have been a few others. I'm on a search for vintage toy stores now. We always made it to Toys R Us because just about every location I went to was near a mall. At most in a section a block or so away from the mall. So if whatever mall toy store didn't have anything good we always wanted to check out the Toys R Us and see if they had anything. I searched and actually a few of the odd Toys R Us stores I used to go to are still open. Also this podcast from RetroBlasting is worth a listen. He used to work at Toys R Us. They put some of the blame on the big toy makers as well and their distribution to Toys R Us. It's something I noticed when I went to Toys R Us back in the day. I was always looking to see new toys but they never had them. I started a topic about RetroBlasting's Studio Collection as well. It's something people here might want to check out.

Consolidated Megazone 23 Toy/Model Thread for 2017-2018
JetJockey replied to RavenHawk's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
I thought Part 2 built up to the chase scenes because the early part of the movie is just the biker gang and getting to see what's going on in the Megazone. Massive collection of cels. Yet another time I'm too late. http://www.animanga.com/cels/gallery/yann/megazone.html- 817 replies

I used to check RetroBlasting's channel more frequently. But with the Toys R Us collapse I went over what I missed over the last year or so and saw their new collection area. This is probably one of the best setups I've seen for retro toys. It's long video but an amazing collection to see if you like old 80s toys (vehicles and bases), cartoons, and movies from back then. If anyone has seen a better setup post it. I only remember one Star Wars focused collection that a few girls toured a few years ago. I think one of them was a popular cosplayer. But it was one of those millionaire type setups with a whole bunch of carded figures on the walls. I think one room was all carded figures.

RetroBlasting put up a review of the most recent Voltron toy. I posted this because they also compared the majority of major Voltron releases later in the video. They only left out a few of the bad ones. That massive one which I think was a type of Kickstarter deal being one of them. I saw a few videos about that one get laughs. RetroBlasting and CollectionDX are the two favorites. Seeing all these Voltron toys make me really want a perfect robot Voltron from that new Action Chogokin line.

Consolidated Megazone 23 Toy/Model Thread for 2017-2018
JetJockey replied to RavenHawk's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Part 3 even with the rough edges is just a more fun anime for me. I like Part 2 as well. But I guess it's just the videogames, more cyberpunk setting, songs, and feel that make me like Part 3 the most. I couldn't believe Part 1's ending. I was like is that it? It's a downer. That guy seems to have the majority of his 80s stuff. Contact him and he'll probably put you on the show. It would make for a good episode.- 817 replies

I remember that store from the wiki image but I thought it was called Circus World. I guess that's one of those things that happen when you get older. I remember it for those arch openings and castle design. That store closed way before Toys R Us. I'll read the wiki to see why but I remember as big as they were, Toys R Us always seemed to have more customers. I don't remember getting videogames at Child World either.

Consolidated Megazone 23 Toy/Model Thread for 2017-2018
JetJockey replied to RavenHawk's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
I finally watched the whole Megazone 23 Parts 1, 2, and 3. Now I see why people like the Garland so much and why we are getting so many toys. I thought I was going to like Part 1 the most because of the art style but I ended up liking Part 3 the most. So I want the E=X Garland out of all the versions. I'm hoping Arcadia shows a prototype soon because that other version does look really sketchy transforming in that video. Also because I would want an Eve figure for the Part 3 Garland as well. I think with Part 1, my opinion of it dropped a bit when the feel of the show changed somewhere in the middle towards the end. I don't want to spoil it for those that haven't watched it yet so SPOILER WARNING! Part 2 has the same character designer as the Gatchaman OVA which is pretty cool. I love how the city is a character and it reminded me of movies like The Matrix and Dark City. Part 3 had a more cyberpunk feel and the Garland reminded me of Priss' Highway Star bike from Bubblegum Crisis Episode 4. I like when Eiji and Eve get to see the world in Part 3 as well. It was like that scene in Southern Cross when Dana takes Bowie and Zor to those three mounds. Also, I don't know why but for some reason I remembered a song from Part 3. https://archive.org/details/08TheWallOfEdenAnotherStoryOfMegazone/Megazone+23+Vocal+Collection/01+-+Higeki+no+Idol.mp3 Maybe it was in an old trailer but it triggered memories. I like the music from Part 3 the most as well followed by Part 2, and Part 1. The big surprise was Eve, who I thought was just going to be another Minmay singing girl type character. At least that's what I assumed from her images. And also what I vaguely assumed back in the 80s or early 90s seeing her artwork in magazines and that Mikimoto Illustrations artbook. Eve was the most interesting character of the show. I would like to get a few posters of her from each part. I can't believe it took more than 30 years for me to see this anime. But there are tons of old anime shows I still haven't seen. Megazone 23 is a cool show though. Now begins the search for items. I've been going over this site. http://www.robotech.patlabor.info/index.htm I can't believe they tried to turn Megazone 23 into Robotech the movie. I watched some of this video from HappyConsoleGamer some time ago but stopped because I didn't want to be spoiled but finished it after seeing the show. He has a big Megazone collection. Also his vinyl collection, timed at the Megazone part. Bonus for fans! https://archive.org/details/08TheWallOfEdenAnotherStoryOfMegazone For me after seeing Megazone 23 my list is: 1. Robotech New Generation / Mospeada - Difficult choice as the original Bubblegum Crisis OVA is awesome. But I love that travel feel of New Generation and the team. 2. Bubblegum Crisis OVA - I wish it ended better. For me it really ends at Episode 6. Although I enjoy Episode 8. I'm not too crazy about Episode 7. 3. Megazone 23 (In reverse order) Part 3, 2, and 1. 4. Bubblegum Crash - I like the opening of the show. But the tone and a lot of stuff is off compared to the original. I haven't seen the later Bubblegum Crisis or any of the spinoffs yet. Nor Viper's Creed.- 817 replies

That box art is awesome. It reminds me of this scene in New Generation. This was the first episode of Robotech New Generation that I remember watching. Back then I always stumbled across the cool cartoons. I'm still waiting to see if Rook is coming out as then I will want Rand and Rook. But that box art for Scott is really making me want the whole team if they are released. And if not then Scott alone is a lock. The bike looks a lot better than that old version I used to own. And this is coming from someone who passed on the Beagle version.

That's not entirely true. I've posted before on MFC that I still haven't found one site that covers everything for figures, statues, toys, games, etc. I have to search a bunch. It's still possible for me to miss something. The closing isn't surprising but still sad that those executives couldn't turn the stores around. It was probably too late back when I stopped going to Toys R Us some time in the mid 2000s. But then they are covered anyway success or fail. It shouldn't be that Amazon, Walmart, or Target is now the place to go for toys or videogames.

I like and don't like that auto extension on Yahoo Japan. It stops the snipers but also can get people to "find" extra money. I've lost auctions because of that auto extension that I thought I was going to win. Another thing, I've seen a few Yahoo Japan cel auction sellers on ebay recently. I haven't compared the prices though. If you like Ghost in the Shell, the foil version of this Mondo poster goes for as much as good cels these days.

I really wish I tried to win the cel of that Rook scene. I think part of the reason I didn't try was it wasn't in the Robotech opening and I assumed not in the actual show either. Just Mospeada's opening. Which I still haven't watched completely. I hope these delays are to make these bikes perfect. That will equal strong sales and us getting Rook and Lancer's bikes in new or vintage versions. The wait is starting to get to me.

Consolidated Megazone 23 Toy/Model Thread for 2017-2018
JetJockey replied to RavenHawk's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
That's some set. What are the contents of the artbook? I think there is a standard version of it but I'm not sure. It looks like that E=X Garland missed February release date was delayed a few months. And Arcadia didn't have their E=X Garland at WF. But on the plus side, I'm going to borrow Megazone 23 from a friend of mine. So I'll get to see it soon. I hope it's as good as it looks.- 817 replies
