I think people are confused about "effects". It's the type of effects that they are using that's the problem. During the last movie they wasted they're final fight at a stupid ice locale that required a lot of useless stunts and effects. Just keep the budget, and use it on stunts and effects that's not necessarily obvious. A lot of people would be surprised how much effects was used on Black Hawk Down. Another great scene was the harrier sequence in True Lies. Not necessarily a great script but the look was incredible. The problem is that the production company wants the flash and hip, and teen harlots for Bond girls. They actually wanted Britney Spear... While Brosnan was pulling for Monica Belluci (yum). I guess they wanted the audience to come for the bill not for the story...

Bond isn't exactly famous for being realistic I think that was Brosnan's problem with the franchise, the realism is taken away so far out of believability. It started out with a couple of gadgets and cool stunts, but it's gotten to the point where Bond was a riskless superhero. Even when Connery was threathened by a spider you can feel some sort urgency. But the choice is really weird here. Bana has come out of films where realism was an important part of his sci-fi/fantasy movies. He was really good in Troy, The Hulk and BHD. But the rumored argument was that the Brocollis wanted the bigger effect and a hipper look as opposed to Brosnan preferring the more gritty espionage storyline. I would have thought they would go with Paul Walker or some other cheese-fest regular.

Saw and loved it. I know if I use the word "original", some guy gonna come along and give me titles of 10 crappy movies, but it far different from the run of the mill movies they are pumping out today. A lot of people came out of the theatre disappointed. I can't seriously blame them, because they came in for a type of movie and didn't get it. But then again, you already saw Signs... why would Shymalan do the same film??? Monsters banging on doors while people hide in the basement? And there were people screaming in the audience, so I know the horror element is there. There's a certain dynamic between Opi's daughter, Juaquin Phoenix and Adrian Brody, characters that barely speak (except the Howard chick, she has plenty of lines) that says more than the typical teen love triangle movies of today. If you can't handle the twist, don't watch it. But it you want a great theatre experience then check it out.

Matt and Trey had a hilarious panel in San Diego where they showed clips of this movie. I'm glad they made it since the recent incarnation of the Thunderbirds doesn't ivolve the marionettes... and from the look of it, this has more action and explosions. The miniature sets are real nice to. It's the best production Ive seen involving puppets... (did somebody say puppets? ) At the end of the experience they said that they swore off working with puppets and decided that they will start working with humans again, which they swore off the last time they made a movie. But they did say that they want to keep doing South Park as long as they can and preffered it to all other projects...
