  2. Beautiful! Is there anything special about the yellow tape you use? Or is it standard tape? Thanks!
  3. That carne asada Memo makes is damn good too! Make sure you come with plenty of room in your stomachs.
  4. mmmm... mia sara.... Have youread that script before they shot it? It's insane. Mia Sara's charactrer was suppose to have a cat's head in that scene. I'm glad it ws changed. Actually, his "normal" setting films have plenty of atmosphere to it to. Thelma and Louise had the desert dust and heat that was constant and was part of the story. I remember in 1492 when his crew's shoulder where scorched from the heat and there was steam rising of them.... pretty cool stuff. But the atmosphere is like a character in his films. Michael Bay's films are always shot beautifully, but lack so much in character and belivability that it's just wasted. Blade Runner was poorly received by critics but eventually redeemed itself on its own. Pearl Harbor will never have that chance. When I got the VHS at Fedco for $5 I swear I thought I was the only one that liked that movie. I thought I was the only one that liked Legend and I'm not sure apart from a few people on this board that said that they have how big an audience it has. I even like Tom Cruis in it. Everytime I see a Final Fantasy VG where the hero has a ridiculously huge sword, it always brings me back to the scene where Tom cruise lifts his sword and it was obviouly too big for him. I always wonder if they got it from Legend.
  5. G.I Jane was a great film... Scott really pulled some acting chops from those people. Viggo pretty much stood out saide from the fact Demi Moore looked bad ass. Speilberg is a great director. He problaby influences a lot fo people to become film students and directors. But technically most of what influences his audience and fans are taken from other great directors. he's a master of putting together a great film... but I consider Scott to be more inventive. Just like James Cameron is really inventive... If James Cameron put out more movies I think he could have been right up there also. Technically he's a master, but he's the opposite of Speilberg... storywise he's just not there yet. And frankly I think he took a step back with Titanic, cuz the Abyss was a better movie than that. And liking films based on their popularity is really weak. Like Graham said, the duellist is an excellent film. And White Squall was also very good. It's just not what people wnt to see. But the story was gripping and like always the filming was perfect were you felt like you were actually there. it's a lot better than the Perfect Storm. When 1492 came out there was another Christopher Columbus movie that came out from Alexander Salkind. It's a shame that you have to compare those 2movies to see what a great movie 1492 was. But again... it didn't have the star power and interest that pulled people in. But is that any measure of what makes the movie good? I believe that The Mission with Robert Deniro was a way better movie than that though when it came to the colonizing of the Western Hemispere. Ridley Scott isn't perfect. But my point is to show that he's a lot more influential than people give him credit for. The guy sneezes and genres are reborn if not created. But I don't expect anyone that uses smileys as sentences to get my point... if you can't get your opinion written in words you are beyond reproach. Please don't use this thread to bait me. Another thread was already locked because of people with different agendas.
  6. Man... I already miss this show...
  7. The Road Warrior was a great movie!
  8. You guys play six degrees of Arnold somewhere else... actually that was pretty cool... A1 dig up your Arnold thread and we'll suggest movies and you can figure out how Arnold ownz them.
  9. "Wake up! Time to die!" Blade Runner was probably the film that made me notice Scott's genius. I saw Aliens and I think I was too busy being scared out of my wits to realize how real the film felt. It wasn't until I saw the directors cut two Halloweens ago that I noticed how perfect that film was. I still prefer the original cut, but seeing Alien in the big screen again was so overwhelming that I was glad they released that new cut. But I remember when they released the director's cut of Bladerunner. I knew after years and years of watcing it on my worn out VHS copy that I had to go and look at it at the theatres. And again, thinking that you know what to expect and still being blown away by the visuals, makes you appreciate Scott as a director. It's the first movie that actually snatched me from my seat and made me believe that it wasn't done with special effects. That they actually went some wild futuristic city and filmed on location. My favorite scene is when Deckard rides to the Tyrell Corporation, right up to where they introduce Rachel, Sean Young's character. The flight seemed like it was a familiar thing. It made me think that that's how it is to fly across a city looking at huge buildings. Then it moves right into a nice conference room with a great view of the city. Everything looks like it should. And Sean Young, she fit right in. The characters were so much part of the environment that they needed little introduction before you knew who they were. "Is this test to see if I'm a replicant? Or a lesbian, Mr Deckard?"

  12. Man I knocked out cold after 24... the best part was when Buchanan told Chloe that they don't need her personality disorder and Chloe couldn't argue it. Also, Tony and Michelle gettting back together made me fizzly inside... but the tums took care of that... In case you missed it: The following takes place between 3AM and 4AM... 3:04 AM: Jack: Audrey... I'm sorry... Audrey: You killed Paul. Jack: Yeah I'm sorry it wasn't you instead. 3:24: President: David, what the hell is going on around here? We attacked the Chinese? Palmer: Listen you! You brought me here to do your laundry and so far all I've seen is the sh!t in your pants! 3:30 AM: Tony: Michelle I hate being without you! Michelle: I didn't want any of this. Tony: You want to get back together? Michelle: No, I ordered a BLT and they sent a Spamwich... it's gross... 3:34 AM: Xiang: We have a picture of Howard Burns. Jack: Dude, that could be anybody... everytime there's a white guy on a print out it's "hey look its Howard Burns!" Get over it! 3:44 AM: Jack: You're still alive, you're father still alive and we prevented most of the Nuclear plants from melting down. I'd say what we are doing is working... Audrey: I know I know... STFU Audrey... President: You and Palmer are plotting against me! Novic: Would you like me to ask Persident Palmer to leave... President: Dammit Mike you made me crap in my pants! 3:55 AM: Marwan: I am going to destroy the U.S. with my Alienware laptop! 3:57 AM: Jack: I've been waiting for this... Marwan: You can kill me but you can't stop the missile. Jack: What missile? Marwan: Doh! I didn't say missile. I said Mizzle... you know... Mizzle to the jizzle... HEY! HO!!! HEY!!! HO!!!
  13. There's a Lucilles by F&S... we went there for Mindy's bday... You might want to check out the Getty Museum and the museum with all the mummified bodies on display. Just duck when you see people waving guns in the freeway...

No pics and already 61 replies... Everyone always says when someone puts up a custom CF "Take notes Yamato!", well then... I'd like to thanks Jung and Kurt for making this happen...
  15. Now go buy 50 of them!
  16. I guess historical movies, especially Ridley Scott's, are not there to teach you history, but definitely strive to mimick a realism of whatever time period he's trying to do. Even Blade Runner seem like a more plausible future than most other futuristic movie. Especially against those that came before it. One of my favorite shows right now, deadwood, strives for realism, but gladly sacrifices accuracy for the sake of the story... As long as they try to make me believe it while I'm watching I'll skip on the historically accurate events.

  19. Don't know what the Hovis ads are but those BMW driver films were pretty decent.
  20. I'm a huge Legend fan. It really captures the feeling of reading the dark fairy tales that were written before Disney bleached them white. It's the closes you're gonna get to a movie based on Charles Vess's fairy tale comic books.
  21. I bet someone here has more than kensei and godzilla. I don't think the insanity is contained within those 2. And I mean it... it's freakin insanity...
  22. We call it cheap in Singapore...
  23. Someone asked fo this pic, IIRC. Here ya go. ack... horrid! Thanks E. Coli....
  24. He's probably the most influential movie maker of the modern era. Just look at his track record. Alien - spawned a number of movies that was about a crew trapped in an enclosed space with a killer creature. How many can you name? Blade Runner - set the tone for almost all dystopian future cityscapes and all other directors acknowledges the fact. Batman begins director Chris Nolan says he watched Blade Runner to inspire him for his Dark Knight movie. Even Terry Gilliam admits that his grimy futuristic city in Brazil took after Scott's Los Angeles. Anime and mangas also borrowed a lot from Alien and Blade Runner. Black Rain - great movie but didn't really influence anything but Rising Sun, the Sean Connery/ Wesley Snipes movie... but far superior to it. Thelma and Louise - not really influential except for the fact that at the time strong women lead roles were scarce in Hollywood. Seriously, we need more women with guns movies... someone make a Gunsmith Cats film! Gladiator - Well I would say that Glory and Braveheart were first on the scene of the new movies with massive battle scenes. But it didn't really take off until Scott made Gladiator. This movies spawns a whole line of clones that kills the genre. Black Hawk Down - Again i would say that Private Ryan beat Scott to the punch of influencing a genre. But Black Hawk Down is the model of the perfect modern combat film making. The new series Battlestar Galactica uses this film as a reference to make their space battles seem more real. I'm pretty sure that when all the Iraq war films come out, Black Hawk Down will be the standard they will use.
  25. In addition to many other criticisms I had of AVP, the lack of action you mentioned is one of my biggest complaints. For a film called "Alien vs. Predator" there is a surprising lack of action depiciting aliens fighting against predators! The script wasted so much time setting up the story, very little was left to actually get to the fighting. Very poorly written. Just like the Resident Evil barely had any actual zombie killings in it. Most of the crew sent in got killed by some cube lasers and the almost all the zombies were killed in one room. Just lame.
