  1. There are many benifits for BW to get a distributor, but none of it has to do with HG. HG might have the stranglehold on that contract thru Tatsanuko but it'll never happen because Big West is smart enough to know that HG will run with any precedence that can show that HG can legally import any Macross products aside from the SDF/DYRL designs that Tatsanuko co-owns. That was clearly shown when they tried to license the Macross 7 comic books and tried to have TokyoPop publish it. HG is trying to get their foot in the door but Big West is never going to answer that incessant knocking. And yes it is a tired old debate, but clearly new fans are still disillusioned by the thinking that signing with HG is ideal. It's self serving for those fans to think something shuold happen just because of their own mistrust for online dealers. I'm just trying to point out how Big West would rather not distibute internationally rather than have to deal with HG. But at this point a few fans want what they want and it's just going over some peoples heads
  2. another mod PMd me that said I closed it... chances are I accidentally clicked on the little kite which is an autolock mode... it doesn't even ask for confirmation. my bad... 3 day ban for me!
  3. Wow... just wow... the point is to go into business with someone that can HELP your product... which in dealing with HG won't bring in enough of a significant take to warrant the headache of someone already trying to say that they already own your creations. It would be a definite hurt for Big West to even open that door up for HG for any reason. And Macross IS already international without a foreign distributor, with or without torrents, bootlegs or HG. Just because you can't get it in English doesn't mean its not a worldwide success. I can buy any Macross Frontier bluray, Macross toy or model or CDs that I want right now. Again, why would they get into bed tha's more about taking a piece than actually helping sales?
  4. Sucks to be you. Except you won almost all the raffle giveaway, bastid. You won one more time after I texted you last.
  5. Thanks to everyone that attended, everyone that brought stuff, cake, it was so much fun. Second day started off slow but man... people started showing up late and it was a blast until the end. Thanks to our sponsors! Overdrive, Hobbylink Japan, ToyHell, Los and his LAFToys stands, Bigbadtoystore, Tokyo Hunter and our very own Save and Otaku2!!! I'm not sure I'm going to be able to upload videos until next week... I'm so dead tired today and I have 2 days to prepare for SDCC... Lots of big things going on there also (non Macross related! I'll be sure to do an update thread just as I do every year.) I'll let Kirik post the results of all the contests and raffles. What a major success the con was... specially for a 2 day con. Thanks to Kirik for organizing, sorry I couldnt help as much this year. Thanks to the folks at the Japanese Animation Club at UCLA!!! These guys were incredible hosts and awesome people! Their attendees rocked too. They made it so much fun. See you next year! Everyone that always say that they regret not coming should start planning now because I have a feeling it's gonna be even bigger next year.
  6. True, Macross is profitable enough in Japan. The whole point of going along with HG trademark deal for once is to make additional profits by marketing to international fans though. The popularity of this website and Macross fansubs is evidence that their is market potential outside of Japan that is not being profited from. Dude, you totally missed my point and feel like youre choosing to... because it fits your way of thinking. But the point is that HG's trademark and any additional profits they can pull won't make any possible dent in Big West's sales. HG or Toynami is not Mattel or Hasbro. They don't have the internatinal push that Big West would need to even think about needing their distribution. It's not like before when there was no internet to push your product. Even Toynami and HG is proud of the fact they do no actual advertising for their own products, why would they push Big Wests or even why would Big West think that HG would actually put money to advertising their products? And do you for a minute think that Macrossworld is that popular with most Macross fans? I'm sure a lot of Macross fans don't come to these forums. Here's a good way to measure the popularity of Macrossworld. Go to facebook and search Macross groups. You'll see that the Macrossworld group page is one of the smallest if not THE smallest Macross groups on that site. The number of people that post on Macrossworld is miniscule compared to the number of actual fans. Tough. You can't always chose your business associates like you can with friends. Ummm... I think you got it backwards... you choose people that you do millions of dollars very carefully. And it seems to me that Big West has a choice because guess what.... they CHOOSE not to do business with them.
  7. as I said above I have a video, but I and from the posts, it's seems like everyone was beat from the con and knocked out pretty quick and now we're ramping up for an even bigger day. Sunday has always been the main day for the con. But I have it in glorious HD... I have a new camera and I still have to figure out how to offload video. It aint click and drag, tell you that much.
  8. Sadly this is truer than you know... It breaks my heart...
  9. I gotta say I'm a huge fan of Maiden Japan. he transformation sequence (which quickly got crowded BTW... we should have projected it) is pretty incredible. I like it more than the MPC transformation... and if anyone knew me, they know how much I love the MPC Prime... which I consider the best toy ever made. And I'm not a Transformers fan, it just has all the right elements that a toy should have. Anyway, the arms fold to the back and the grill remains the grill unlike in the MPC where there's 2 is very cool. It's funny that its impossible to have it transform just like the cartoon without making it look like the G1 toy. The size of it gave me an idea of how big the 1/2000 Macross would be, except the Macross is almost 1/3 the main gun, so this thing was even bigger if you measure both head to toe. DROOL!
  10. Even if HG had BW's blessing to merchandise, you would never see Yamato valks in walmart. If HG/Toynami had that kind of merchandising muscles then maybe Big West would have already signed. People think that once they shake hands then we'll all be happier buying toys and DVDs in the free and clear. I for one haven't seen one toy from Toynami in Target or Walmart. Maybe I don't cruise the toy aisles as much anymore since I lost interest in any toys those stores sell, so please anyone correct me if I'm wrong. But with the various other licenses Toynami holds have you seen any of their Voltrons, Futurama, Bleach toys in retail stores? That's what I mean when I ask what sort of benefit do you think it would be for Big West to make a deal with HG? And what sort of benefit would it be to us fans? Did the Beta cost us any less money since it was distributed by a domestic company? The Robotech/Macross toys Toynami makes are done in limited quantities, not so we can enjoy the low sales number, its so THEY can market it at a higher price because of it lower run. If they can shove an endless supply to retails stores then they would have done it already. Of course it easy for them to say they reached out their hands to Big West but BW was unwilling. That's like me saying that I'll send Mel Gibson a letter that if he gives me a lousy .01 percent of his Passion of the Christ earnings then I'll go outside and beat up anyone that calls him a nazi... Thanks but no thanks... if you're wondering... that would come out to $100,000
  11. Of course HG would want to work with BW.... but getting into business with HG would in no way benefit them. BW is churning out successful new products that are huge marketing machines and they eventually make their money without an international distributor. This website alone is an example of the diverse worldwide interest in Macross, old and new (diversity not popularity, this website in no way can represent what the international market profit is). With the internet as a marketing tool and online distributors, you don't want a company with bullying tactics to split the profit with. Yes, Robotech brought Macross into US and wordwide awareness. But the continuing popularity of Macross and its franchise owes nothing to Harmony Gold. If Harmony Gold was such a beneficial addition to its "properties" then why isn't Mospeada and Southern Cross enjoying the resurgence that Macross is. If Robotech's popularity doesn't hinge on Big West's Macross marketing then the other 2 properties would be bringing in the bacon for HG. Obviously HG is just a small thorn in Big West's big fat side and they most likely don't think about it as often as HG's Robotech people and even less than the people on this thread.
  12. JasonC orderd them from Overdrive a while back but he knew he wasn't getting them in time for con, because I asked him to bring and he said he couldn't. My guess is these are made to order so everyone will get theirs around the same time.
  13. ugh, don't know about router issues but I couldn't get on before I left for MWCon and still had trouble when I got to Con and tried to log on with iphone. Wanted to blog to the thread from there...
  14. I'm so beat but it was a lot of fun.... Was kinda worried there because most of the locals went out of town and it was a whole new crowd, but I had a good time. As soon as I got there, there were so many things going on it was really busy nonstop for a couple of hours. Sold a lot of shirts and didn't even get to put the thunderhammer together.. barely had enough time to get some grub. I got a good video of Maiden Japan transforming the Big Ass Optimus Prime and the Karaoke Singers. Our winner was something else. It was so funny. He did the Ranka song... I forgot what it's called but it when Michel dropped Ranka off on that planet were there was a Zentradi uprising, and the guy did the whole dance. I was cracking up the whole time. I hope it was meant to be funny. And you haven't seen Macross Karaoke until you see Gubaba sing like Bobby. Plus as a surprise guest we had Basara stop by! Awesome! JAC @ UCLA had a bunch of great helpers and I couldn't believe how much raffle tickets people were buying. They were flying like pancakes. Can't wait for tomorrow, Ron will bring his diorama and the geat MWC custom contest will be judged. And we cut up the SDF-1 cake!!! Woohoo! Thanks to everyone that introduced themselves to me... I hope to see you again tomorrow, if not... see you next year!

  19. EXO

    Macross Vinyl Toy!

Rohby... Now, that's a name I've not heard in a long time. A long time.
  20. What this thread is really about is to keep all the Robotech, Shadow Chronicles, Tommy Yune, on occasion Carl Macek bitching out of the rest of the forums. Otherwise it would be locked already... but locking it would mean the spillage of said bitching to the rest of the forums.
  21. Awesome Memo!!! Will be good to see you again! HEHEHE.
  22. nope! Just bring them... but they dont get the pre registration goodies, that's all. I hope we have enough goodies for over 100 people... I think that was a bit unexpected.
  23. So pretty!!! Take a good look people! It's where high art meets commerce! *takes a swig and throws bottle against the wall* HIKK!
