Strike A Pose! V.4 - The Macross Mech Pose Thread

I disagree. District 9 is an action adventure that used South Africa and Apartheid as a background so it wouldn't be your standard special effects extravaganza. I think wowing the audience was high on the priority list and they proved they can do it for $30 million and don't need the ridiculous budgets that the mindless US studio produced summer blockbusters make every year. There's nothing wrong with making a good old fashioned Sci-Fi that treats their audience as intelligent moviegoers. You just need the $70 million advertising budget that movies like Funny People got for it to make some real money.

It's funny but this movie reminds me more of City Of God and Slumdog, where the location makes the film making and story more interesting. It just happen to be in the Sci-Fi genre.

When people are thrown a lifeboat, they shouldn't be rocking the boat. -
Yeah there are plenty of inconsistrncies as far as scaling in Macross, well anything where giants of dwarves or keeblers elves. Actually . the Qraus and regults were considerably bigger, but they had to shrink the zentrans just to correct the scale of the mechs. For what reason? I don't know. Its not like they were gonna make toys of them...

I've seen that image so many times before but now that I think about it, Exedore is more of an average height Zentran than Breetai who's just a tall mofo... He'd be 10' tall as a human. I mean he'd break Millia in half!

No... I meant it's not Macross related... the thread itself is fine... Scaling up? The Hovertank Toy itself is pretty big. It's off scale about 1:18. Like I said a 1/60 Hovetank will be about 5 1/2 to 6 inches length in Hovertank mode and maybe 9" in 1/48. That's just a guess. It's funny how lucky anime humans are that they keep getting attacked by aliens that have mechs that are the same height as earth's transforming robots.

I just wasn't sure if you really meant over rated or if you mistyped because you're such a fan. Not that the statement is invalid. It's hard for me to think of it so since it wasn't really a hit even in Robotech terms. In RT terms it still pales under the shadow of the Macross Saga, not as much as Southern Cross.

Good read Adrian, it's funny because Tommy Yune had pages and pages of Mopeada art when I saw him a couple years ago at Meltdown Comics and then there's Roger's stuff which I saw at Jason's house. I've seen and there's only a few things that I havent seen before and when I looked at them, I completely understand why we never saw them. Either they were so early in production that they evolved to what we saw on the show or they were just plain bad designs that they were rejected. (Please don't misconstrue this as a shot at Roger, just the art itself. And don't ask anyone to post those... Shawn has explicitly asked that they should never be posted on MW = bannable offense) I can't wait to get the book so I can compare in my head of what I remember from Tommy's and Roger's stuff just to get an idea what is missing from the art book. Of course I cant wait to see if there are any of Amano's lineart I havent seen. Sounds like a must get for a true Mospeada fan. Does anyone here a red Gakken Tlead?

over rated?

Looks good but it looks like it'll be limited articulation on the knees and feet which are really important to get those "I just cut the monster in half poses". haha. The glowing blades are cool. Maybe that would be a good accessory, make them out of tranclucent blue then have an LED light come out of the hands, like the HOT TOYS Iron Man. If it was in scale would it be bigger than Lion Voltron? It's funny because the feet look like SUVs but they actually the size of those giant constuction vehicles.

I know... I can't wait... skipped Transformers and GI Joe for a real movie!!!
