RIP guy who wrote Leo movie...

what about babeldouche? lol...

Just because they only put one name from Robotech in SC doesn't mean they're trying to get away from Macross. The bulk of their merchandising push is still the Macross designs and it's no secret they are out to control everything Macross outside of Japan. I mean why wouldn't you? You have a treasure chest in your hands and all you need is the key so you can plunder whats inside, you'd be desperate for that key also...
-
Uhhh... yeah and if they were good at it they'd have a lot more of it.
-
I've never hid the fact that I didn't like Zero, which had the sissiest lead character ever... gets his ass kicked by a girl and picks up a broomstick when he couldn't win and Macross 7... well it's Macross 7... And Macross Plus had good mech action but doesn't really push the Macross story further, it just introduces new Valks. To me it's all about the OG Macross. And if Big West treated it like HG treated RT, then I'd probably lose interest. But BW has always produced stuff from the original series that kept me coming back and stay addicted. I am a Robotech fan also though, but my interest wanes much like my interest for Bubblegum Crisis, Masamune Shirow, Megazone, Metal Skin Panic and Last Exile... there's just not enough product to support it.

Not against forum rules. These guys are just scared of new dealers. If it was an existing member they'd be all over it.

My point is the story notwithstanding, HG doesn't have the chops to treat it's product with enough respect to cater to the more sophisticated audience that has grown up on Robotech and caters to the more diehard eat up anything fans. They also refuse to make new fans by clinging on to the outdated 80s products they they just regurgitate. The funny thing is, yes they just use the poorly defined Mospeada mechs for the new cartoon and then you get the new Mospeada Design Book and there are better Mospeada and Legioss redesigns that are use for the cover and chapter dividers and probably will never be reused again. Also, they get the excellently designed Beagle toy and they make no moves to rescue it from demise, because they just dont have te resources and never will.

I see a lot of people making fun of the Robotech continuity and the "Macek editting" but if you look at the Macross continuity it's a mess also. With SDF and DYRL being a movie and Macross also being a movie and all that.. OY! But where the real difference lies is that Big West and Kawamori have been able to get passed the original series and deliver some new and exciting animation that can be marketed successfully. As much as I'm not a big fan of Plus, Seven and Zero and even Frontier, the animation and new valks and even some of the new characters are done well enough so that I'll want them in toy form. And when they DO come out in toy form, the engineering and designs are so good you can't pass them up. With HG, they're so obsessed with the original Macross that they concentrate all their efforts in recreating or trying to acquire all rights to it. When they could have done the same thing since they've had the same amount of time as Big West to propagate their property. Licensing problem... no worries, we'll make out own designs and characters and move on... but they refuse to hire real talent and and professionals and would rather hire lawyers and the reason for that is because they are more fanboys than they are creators. They love Macross/Robotech and want to become part of the mythos rather than start their own. They rather make cheap toy renditions of the VF-1 and Mospeada like bootleggers than treat their fans like true collectors instead nostalgia chasing freaks willing to buy anything to relive their bygone youth. The funny thing is I started collecting He-Man toys again. I know there's been toys all this time but I never paid attention to it. But this time they took almost the same business model as Yamato. You pay a bit more becuase it's such a niche fandom and they'll give you a high quality product with all the extras you could want and in the design you would want as a fan. I always look at it as the 1/48 version of He-Man toys. And it's a really really successful line. It sells out within hours or at the most a couple of days. The point is they treat their target consumers as adult collectors that are demanding and selective, with enough respect to know that they should get exactly what they expect. I just can't see HG turning that corner now. If the movie gets made and if it's successful I don't think HG will know how to take advantage of it. I think they'll get left behind and it'll be a whole new thing. Toynami will not get the distribution of merchandise and while HG will most likey be listed as producers, a new cartoon coming based on the movie continuity won't be anything close to what the robotech crew has in mind. IF it gets made...

EXO replied to VF-18S Hornet's topic in Hall Of The Super Topics
Holy Cow! Lots of good pics on this page. Toy porn! So this is what this thread would be like without some guy thanking every person that posts... lol. One thing I just noticed with the V.2 Vf-1s is that they go rid of the antenna on the back pack altogether... which is cool since I never display them in GERWALK. -
Haha... that's all sorts of hilarious.
-
mechamaniac has one too.
-
I have a feeling the SDF:M will close behind.
-
Man! Don't be lazy! Build the Prometheus and Deadalus! haha. Seriously though... build it!
-
I removed the gold visor and used a prechewed piece of gum in it's place... thought it'd look better... haha.

I like District 9 a lot but it's not my favorite this year. The storyline is filled with potholes and the ending wasn't that great. But it really filled that mecha action gap that was TF was desperately trying to fill. I'll watch it again and get the disk, but it's not even close to Iron Man for me.

The pictures are from the Yamato Fan Club, so it's taken by Yamato people themselves. I think it's in a waiting room in the Yamato offices, where visitors can take a look but not take pictures.
