  1. I'm not anti Robotech fans... I'm mostly harp on HG's inabilities. Mostly. Sometimes the line blurs. I do agree that a lot what's on this thread is make fun of anything RT. I was gonna say that the art was probably innocent ingnorance, but when you go on there, they go on to explain the difference between RT and Macross. Maybe they don't have all the facts. The legal stuff is indeed tedious and boring. But the ads on that site tells me if you're gonna make money, then do the research. But again... who can blame them for using Mikimoto and Studio Nue's work? There really isn't an alternative.
  2. Well Not really the Prometheus <iframe width="560" height="349" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/UlIxxBMAoxk" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
  3. Of course they're using Mikimoto... who else can do great Macross character art? Someone in HG? There's probably one or two drawings of Hikaru in that library and none as good. I'm surprised they haven't strip-mined Macross The First just yet.
  4. I think it's glued on. Sometimes it pops right off. No guarantees though.
  5. Here's a review that covers the newest version of the 1/60 scaled and within it is a link to the 1/48 and other versions of the VF-1 valk. http://www.collectiondx.com/toy_review/2008/vf1s_superstrike_valkyrie_do_you_remember_love There's a video review at the bottom.
  6. I don't think he knew. Again, countering Keith's argument that a franchise needs to be in the general cultural radar, all you really need is ONE person like Toby Maguire to make it happen. Tom Hanks wants to do a toy astronaut movie that no one under 50 has heard of. I think Toby was a fan of Robotech and he thought, F Transformers, I remember a cartoon I enjoyed more. And before he can find out what a legal mess that property is, he's already holding the movie rights. But these people have the money to bury projects. If I can't make it, then I'll make sure no one else will (until the rights expire and I have to pay again...) My guess is, regarding bigger toy companies, after a couple of attempts, they left the HG offices cackling at their demands and then the knocking just stopped. We can all guess whether that WB story is true or not. But regarding the source, I'm pretty sure a show of hands here will pretty much vote on the side of BS.
  7. I'm not gonna get into that whole Robot Chicken argument again because that's the cheesiest argument ever. Anyone and everyone knows that Hollywood is ready to pick at the nook and crannies of your nostalgia to make a buck. I mean Captain Power? Major Matt Mason? You under estimate the power of Hollywood to dive to the bottom of the barrel. I'm pretty sure it's HG's inability to do what ALL mediocre businessmen are able to do and that's to sell out. They can't even get that right because their individual incompetence have painted each other into corners... that includes Toynami.
  8. So what you're saying is that this is well known within the industry that there's a couple of goons that have a stranglehold over a series while other properties are just starting to enjoy the resurgence? I'm just saying that the success of these other properties seem to be directly AND tightly knitted to the deal they've struck with a major toy company. I mean, people were beginning to already say that the 80's nostalgia was on the decline since we got inundated with toys and movies, but in 2 days we'll be just beginning to enjoy the new Thundercats. I'm assuming it's gonna be enjoyable, I'm kinda excited to see it.
  9. I'm ready for the redo also. To me the lineart is similar in proportions to the VF-19, plus I never got into the 1/60 YF-19 v.1 like I thought I would. I skipped the 1/72 because I never thought it captured it's badassness, but now I feel the same with the current YF-19. It's not a horrible toy, it's just not as good as it should be. After seeing the VF-19 Kai in person, I knew exactly what was missing.
  10. That doesn't escape me at all. I mean we still remember the backstab that was Toycom. But ultimately is that why a real animation company hasn't approached HG to license a genuine animated series?
  11. Would you guys say that HG screwed themselves with the deal with Toynami? Is it in perpetuity? Before Voltron and Thundercats were introduced as new serieses, each of them got a toy deal. Voltron by Mattel and Thundercats by Bandai. But it seems like the only way they can get a toy line outside of Toynami would be to actually see R:LAM get made. There's no way in hell would the WB entrust a lucrative toy line of a movie in Toynamis hands. Obviously Classic Media didn't think they were good enough for Voltron.
  12. Reminds me of: Captain Esteban: Caballeros! I believe you all know each other? Don Diego: Don Diego from San Fernando. Don Francisco: Don Francisco from San Jose. Don Fernando: Don Fernando from San Diego. Don Jose: Don Jose from San Bernardino. Luis Obispo: Luis Obispo from Bakersfield.
  13. I think it'll include the legs. I'm guessing that's why it says ABS on that signage. Man! Why'd I trade my Olive Green Tomahawk? Hey Daisuke! Wanna trade back?
  14. Alls I need is Peter Dinklage in armor... Oh and River Tam with a sword is good too, even though it's foam. Actually that might do even better. But since you're referencing Role Models, I'd rather see Ken Jeong's character come back.
  15. I'm gonna ask for my money back if Qui-Gon don't utter the words "You sank my battle ship". I thought it was funny that the missles or whatever they were from the alien ship were the pegs from the game.
  16. Nice. I can almost hear the trumpets in the beginning of the Macross theme.
  17. I don't know about "can't", maybe they refused to... lol. I was planning to make a conversion kit. But I'm glad they are making it. It'll save me some time and money.
  18. Great review. That's a Voltron I woulda love to have as a kid. But for now I'm happy with my die-cast Toynami. I'm waiting to see more of the bigger Voltron once it's out of prototype phase. I'm more interested in the 3 3/4 scale figs that come with it.
  19. Are you finding out if they spy on us by spying on them?
  20. This is an indie film in the true sense. 3 room mates raised the funding, produced and 1 of them directed it. It made big waves at the Sundance film festival and Fox picked it up. They also made The Sound of My Voice which was picked up by Warners. Getting 2 movies picked up by studios in Sundance is quite a feat. You can see Brit in an episode of Community where her and Britta thought that the other was a lesbian and they used each other to show people they were so open minded... they ended up in a lip lock towards the end... two thumbs up.
