Preorder for the Alpha MPC is now open
Jawjaw replied to 1st Border Red Devil's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Hmm, it sounds like a lot of us want one but not for $80. If there are a lot more people like that out there, then prices will not drop that much. All it takes is two people to drive up bids on ebay. -
The tax system is not a scam. Deductions are designed around averages. Most of the years I was married, I had to tell them to take much more money out of my paycheck and I still owed at the end of the year because my wife also worked. That's why I was happy to get money back this year and relieved that I don't have to write another big check. For reference, a dual income family pays more taxes than two single people making the same amount of money. That's why it is killed the marriage penalty tax. However, that all changes when you have kids. To keep this thread on track, I will say that one of us should figure out a way to write off our toy purchases as a deduction. Maybe one could set up a fake business of some sort and make toys a business expense.

Let's not get spoiled because face it - Macross is not the most popular thing out there right now. We are lucky that Yamato is dedicated to making Macross toys of not just one type, but many. I think most of us would like diecast in all our valkyries but I don't think any of us want to keep paying $80-100 for just one of them. I also think most of us would prefer a better looking plastic valkyrie than one with diecast.

I wouldn't count on it if I where you. Just because they did a different scale for one of their many toys, doesn't mean they are going to start doing it for everything. Also, the 1/48 was not just a different scale but a completely different design. I get the feeling that Yamato really wanted to do something special with the classic vf-1 and wasn't completely happy with the 1/60's. That is also why they are redoing the Mac+ valks (at least we think they are). They were all designed without computers and while Yamato was still learning from their mistakes. Granted, I wouldn't be suprised to see larger scale Mac0 toys someday. If the first few Mac0 toys sell very well, I'm sure Yamato will find ways to make more. Of course, we will not hear about any such news until well after the smaller scale toys are sold. It would be stupid of Yamato to leak info of bigger better toys before the sell the smaller ones.

Super cool idea. I would love to see it finished.

I'm beginning to wonder about that new yf-19, too. They are suppose to have good talent working on it but I expected to see something by now.

I'm actually getting a refund this time and it's a big refund. This is the first time since I've been married (6 yrs). I had a ton of deductable expenses last year and the tax relief helped me a lot. It's too bad I need that money to pay bills, though. I would love to put some cash down for the new 1/48's and the new Optimus Prime.

No kids? C'mon where's the fun in that? Spreading your seed is fun and you get little people to boss around. I like the idea of giving the kids some other interest. I have some Gundam stuff that I am not too interested in anymore so I will let them play with that. They can also have all my crappy Toynami stuff. I don't like the idea of the man cave. I think that will just make the contents of the room more desirable - like the forbidden fruit. All it would take is one day that you forget to look the door.

We have all heard at least one horror story of a child destroying a prized toy. The last being Monkey N - see story here. It appears that many of us have very young kids or will have kids soon, like myself. Thus, I and other future dads are looking for ideas to keep the youngins from thrashing our expensive collection. Post your experiences and ideas.

I think that pretty much takes care of itself. He might as well rip out the passenger seat because no chick is going to ride in that thing.

Wow, I didn't know there was so many expecting kids. Congrats to all with newborns and those expecting. For those that asked, yes I am having triplets - two boys and a girl to be exact. They will probably be born sometime late April or early May, hopefully. It's a strange feeling because I still feel like a kid myself. I play with toys, watch tv, and play video games all day. If Yamato can make it look pretty good and keep the cost down, I think there will be little to compain about. In the past, I think the main problem was the high cost of a Yamato. That raised expectations to a very high level in which it was difficult for Yamato to satisfy everyone. As a side note - it would be cool to have a new thread how to kid proof display cabinets. I'm wondering if I should just box up some of my stuff and put in the closet.

It is funny that it seems like the creators made the vf-10 more toy friendly by showing swingarms and Yamato still uses removable legs.
-
Graham did say a while back that the new Yamato scales would not go over well with sum. I don't mind it if it looks good and I think the vf-10 looks pretty good. I am not crazy about the non-perfect transformation, though. If the price is really that much cheaper then I might not mind it so much. I also have kids on the way, three to be exact, so there is no freakin way I can buy any more $100+ toys.

I have to say this again - that is a kick-ass custom, Jung.

I suppose my 73 Camaro fits the bill. It's not in the best shape right now but someday it will be. It was my first car and it is full of good memories. In the summertime, the interior has a certain smell that reminds me of when I first got it. When I fix it up and replace all the carpet, I will miss that smell. I also love my custom, full suspension mountain bike. It's getting old but it still is a great, fast bike. I bought it before I was married and had a house. If I had waited, I would not of been able to afford such an expensive bike. As far as toys, I think my green 1/32 Legioss is still king followed closely be the 1/48 Low-Vis. When I first started collecting, I had to get a green Legioss. It took a while but I finally found the perfect one on ebay. I didn't want to lose so I ended up overpaying quite a bit. But in the end it worked out because the seller gave me a blue one with a broken arm for free. It was an easy fix so I ended up with a good deal. The low-vis is still new but I love how it looks. I believe years from now, people are going to be paying an arm and a leg for them.

Official Transformers Alternators and more thread.

Screw the Mustang - the new GT40 or GT or whatever they call it now is much better looking and a supercar. I'm not a huge fan of Ford but that GT is flat out awesome. -
Sealab rules and those are hilarious. I'm trying hard not to bust out laughing cause I'm at work. I will have to check those out tonight at home.

Looks promising but so do many games before they are released. But I suppose it will not be hard to make a Robotech game that is better than the first. I always thought they should make Macross or Robotech game like Shogo. Anyone remember that game? It was not that popular but it was awesome. It was a fps where you fought both on foot and in a giant robot. The robot could transform to a hover craft thing and its weapons were fantastic. I believe someone was working on a Macross mod for it but that was a long time ago.

Oh man, those kids breaking toys stories scare me. I'm fixing to have triplets with 2 boys and I have more than a few expensive toys on display. I plan on locking my two ikea glass cabinets but I also have open shelves. Luckily, I do live in a one story house so that helps.

Retail Half Life 2 pirated in Russia

I think the problem with pc games these days is that they are also made for all the conosoles. Thus, much of the games graphics, controls, interface, etc. is sacrificed so that it can run on say, a ps2. For example, I am playing Deus Ex 2 right now and while it is still a great game, it has some limitations because of the console support. The inventory system, upgrades, and other elements of the game have been greatly simplified from the original game to make it playable with a paddle cotroller. The game itself runs pretty bad on the pc. I bet it would of run better if the game was optimized for the pc. As far as originality, I think it has always been rare to find an unique game that is fun to play. Over time, we tend to forget the average games and only remember the great ones. Most games share similar elements but might have one or two new things that make it fresh. -
Finally got to watch Mac 0, my 1st impressions
Jawjaw replied to JKeats's topic in Movies and TV Series
Yeah, ep3 has some of the best action to date. I was belting out "oooh" and "aaah" all over the place. The level of detail in the animation throughout the series is incredible, IMO. A lot of the high production animation these days looks great but Mac0 seems a little better than the rest to me. -
This alternator line is getting interesting. I don't like the RX8 but the transformation looks cool and I like the idea of using real cars for transformers. If they keep up this trend and cover a wide array of cars, that will be awesome. Now, all is needed is real jets for the bad guys and that series will be the best ever.

That's just how it is. The yf-21 is my absolute least favorite Yamato for those reasons. I just leave it in fighter mode because it is too unstable in the other modes. I believe I use the term "pineapple standing with toothpicks" as an analogy in the past". Perhaps Yamato will revisit the yf-21 and do a better job in the future.

Once again, arc, well said. People here tend to focus on the negaitive with Yamato's instead of the positive. IMO that comes from past experience with shotty QC. Yamato was not experienced with transforming toys and were pretty small in the beginning. Since then, they have improved in many ways and the 1/48's were the first to be computer designed. Naturally, the 1/48 is going to be more fragile than a 1/55. You just cannot compare the two because the 1/48 is a thousand times more articulate and detailed. The backpack problem is hugely overrated because we had a misunderstanding when the first 1/48's came out. The backpack does not go as high as it should - in most people's opinion. When Graham reviewed production samples, he discovered that you can shove the backpack a little higher over time. Thus, people tried to do this when they came out and broke parts. We later discovered that you were not supposed to shove it past the stopper. Since then, I have not heard of anyone having a problem. A lot of the other so called QC problems are just design issues like the head seem or gaps. The only downside to the 1/48's IMO is the sticker price. With fastpacks, the price is close to $200. Ouch.

I'm just come here for the free food.
