Well, take into account late nights airings and demographics. There's no way Macross could get 19.1% for Sazae-san, or 13.4% for Chibi Maruko-chan. Gundam 00 highest was 6.1% (linky). But hey, we beat out Code Geass R2 last week, which had 2.6%. And that airs on Sundays at 5PM.

They got older. Kazutaka Miyatake is gonna hit 60 next year. Haruka Takachiho? Gonna be 57 in November. Naoyuki Kato? 56 this year. Kawamori was kind of a late-comer to the group by the time these guys set themselves up. But more importantly, they have less time to spend with each other because of other commitments. Their popularity in the anime community basically pulled them away. But that's the territory, in any field. The more popular you are, the more projects people try to get you on, the less time you get to spend with the people whom you started out with. It's just the way things are.

It doesn't help that the story behind the VF-25 is that it is undergoing performance evaluations. So for now, we just have to wait and see. Mikhail's sniper gun pod may be a new gunpod meant for all specialized VFs. The knife could be just specific to Ozma's VF-25S. Right now, it's anybody's guess as to why the VF-25 is replacing the VF-171. Or why we even have the VF-171 in the first place. Right now, we only have the production reason from the Compendium (Kawamori didn't want the VF-19 because it looked too "hero").

As Shouta has noted, the AiA-IZ's encoder likes to alternate the openings and endings with English and romanji. I prefer AiA-IZ's. I prefer accuracy over speed, and it reads a bit better than Gattai.

We have similar systems with the HMCS or HDMS as well as lots of eye-tracking studies and system (in fact, one that is very similar). Most likely (i.e. VF-1 onwards) have computer-aided targeting for faster acquisition. I'm not sure I would want to track an Itano circus....

It looks like the VF-25 gives a wrap-around imaging (in battroid only) set-up with the infamous front-control panel from fighter mode. Although, I'm gonna need lineart to confirm that. The VF-25 is longer than the 19 by about 4 m IIRC.
