In modern times, countries with organized armies have assimilated the ranking structure of other countries, mostly due to NATO or the UN Security forces. This is why they look similar. Uniformity allows some respect within the chain of command. You don't want a Lieutenant of one army addressing a General of another as a trash. It's just a matter of making things easier. But it is nevertheless important to always keep in mind that this is a Japanese show and that they use Japanese military ranking. Just like in shows or movies in the USA, they will use the US military ranking system because it is a USA production even if there are international or other-worldly characters.

The F-35 shares a similar silhouette to the F-22, but it could be possible to use the F-35. But it would really depend on what direction the production staff is going to take. Very true. But again, no screenplay, no director...no idea on what they're planning on doing.

The writers won't be doing their job if they didn't make you people try to figure out who Alto is going to go after. Note about the Zentradi names: The spellings are intentional since they denote that they're not human. Were the the Zentradi human, we would use the Romanization of their names (which is also perfectly acceptable). The fact that the womanizer had to tell Ranka that Alto wasn't coming shows Alto's selfish side. The least he could have done was call her, maybe leave a message. But I'll let it slide this time since it's his birthday present and that his family decided to give him a hard time, again. But as I've said, the ball is in Sheryl's court. It will go back to Ranka's as part of the natural order of things. Then back to Sheryl, then back to Ranka, wash, rinse, repeat, etc.

I think the Chinese fans must have been suffering withdrawal symptoms for being off for 2 weeks. The Tokyo Toy show is probably not the best place for show news since it is a Toy show.

To address a few things: -TBS airing will not be taking a break next week. The TBS airing of Episode 12, unfortunately, has been pushed to 27:30 JST (3:30AM JST, 2:30PM EST/11:30AM PST). The MBS airing is fine so don't go spreading misinformation. -As of writing, nothing but the HD raws. Sorry Gubaba -And that's 12-hours. If you haven't watched the episode yet, please leave the thread if you don't wish to be spoiled. Now on to the show. I liked this episode. Very nicely done character moments. Any mecha action would have spoiled this episode and turned me off. It really sucks to be Ranka. But we shall see. I think Ranka will turn around and find out it's not all that to be an idol like Sheryl. It's a nice contrast to see Sheryl, an idol who enjoys being a normal girl for a change, and Ranka, a normal girl who wants to be idol. I'll give Alto a break since it was his birthday present and his family situation ain't pretty, but this episode really shows his more selfish-ness. This doesn't really show that he's into Sheryl, but that he wants to fly. Given the choice of 2 lovely ladies and flying, he chooses the latter. Both girls should slap that boy. The pendulum goes off on a tangent so you think there's progress, but in reality, both Sheryl and Ranka lose to flying. Concerning the next episode, Zentradi + power armors + rioting over a canceled performance = disaster.

I believe people are misinterpreting the VF-11MAXL's specifications. The only thing the VF-11MAXL uses from the VF-16 is the engines. http://macross.anime.net/wiki/VF-11_Thunderbolt
