Updated the Compendium with the info (there's also character info). Grammar and translation checks still pending. Not much new info on the the VF-25. VF-27 only has a description with no specs. The Macross Quarter entry doesn't say anything about using the flight deck as a shield.

The numbering may be arbitrary to denote that there are more people in the squadron but that they aren't the focus. Keep in mind in Frontier, SMS is not the UNS. So they may or may not use the same numbering methodology, nor are they constrained by it because this is SMS and not UNS.

It might be best to have someone translate the articles.

Only for still shots. Much like true Hollywood SFX, you would only need it if you need to have something planted in the ground and you need a correct shadow or prop to base it on. Action sequences don't need it since the object is in motion, but for still sequences like the beach scene where the object is not a background image, then they would need a prop.
