Robotech Academy - You want a new Robotech series...?
azrael replied to Einherjar's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
As I've mentioned in some form or another, donors are investors. No matter the amount, they should start acting like one. In my 2nd post, which is now immortalized on the 1st post, Tommy & Co. probably talked to networks and they likely said, "Pass." So yeah, if the boss said, "go find your own funding", what does that say about the boss' confidence in this property? (Like before, I'm being rhetorical and folks here really shouldn't be trying to answer me.) In the end, they are folks just like the rest of us who are doing our work and collecting our paycheck. It's the guys on the top, the ones making this sales pitch, that donators should be mindful of. === Imagine if you were a venture capitalist and people were coming to you with ideas about what you should spend your money on. Investors are always asking things like, "What do I get in return?", "What makes your product unqiue?", "Why should I give you money?" Even in most offices, and if you are on a budget, you have to justify to those holding the money why you need to purchase this or that, or why you need to allocate money for expenses, staff, the whole caboodle. And sometimes, down to the dollar. Donors should be asking these hard questions as well. And remember, out of the $500,000-goal they want, they'll only walk away with ~$450,000 after fees. So obviously they don't need exactly $.5M cuz they wouldn't even get it all if they make their exact goal. People should have this thought in mind at SDCC.- 2025 replies

Yeah, it's on 7/24 @ 7PM. The panel following them is "The Definitive History of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles - A Look Under the Shell", which is about a documentary of the same name.- 2025 replies

And look at the number of people donating at the <$100 level. Or filtering it down further, the <$50-level. Most people will not even blink donating at that level. Which is why I've said, let's wait until after SDCC. SDCC has a greater audience than AX and has a lot more general entertainment-focused individuals. We will see a significant increase in donations. Which is why I would use SDCC to point out issues with this KS-project to the masses. Like I said, the majority will not read the comments page. Many will just donate some sub-$50 amount and move on. They won't know that HG has been a patent troll to anyone and everyone and have just done the bare minimum to keep the franchise alive. Don't expect them to go digging around. Don't expect them to read.- 2025 replies

Which is where the "Sit back and have some popcorn" comes in. We can explain and show people what HG has done on and off screen, but we can't tell people how to spend their money. People donated to the freakin' potato-salad guy. People will donate to this project. The best we can do is educate people on what they are donating to.- 2025 replies

Take the argument to PM or the thread gets locked permanently and people get banned. Banking of nostalgia only goes so far. They're probably hoping for Transformers-type response. But yeah, likely the majority of the backers are people who do not know anything and have no interest in what HG has done. They see a news article, say "wow", maybe visit the KS page, maybe donate, and then move on. They won't read the comments, just hit that "Donate"-button. And they're not going to care. As the sayings goes, "Haters gonna hate." Which is why I say offer an opposing viewpoint and do it on neutral ground. Also keep in mind that there are KS and Amazon Payments fees. KS is 5% and Amazon is 3-5%. So if they make it to $.5M, they lose as much as 50,000 to fees.- 2025 replies

*MOD Note* Please send beta codes via PM. Do not post codes on the forum. Guests are allowed to read the forums (pictures and all) and it would be best if this didn't become a free-for-all. Thank you.

Doesn't say anything about 2 years. Most of the article is talking about the 20th anniversary of Plus and 7 (thanks for the reminder of my age, jerks) and that they'll be re-airing in August thru September.

Also announced was the new Avengers lineup and the "let's turn Tony Start into an evil bastard again"-Superior Iron Man. I honestly don't understand Marvel's need to match comics with their TV/movie properties. I'm not a fan of Deathlok's new look.

Among many things.... The whole send the inexperienced crew into the unknown sounds...so...generic. Not saying it's good or bad, just, "Meh". Since Robotech 3000 wasn't made, I'm not sure how you could make that comparison, but ok. He donated a large amount and is having donator's remorse? That's a discussion for that other thread. Macek's widow played her cards. Good for her. And I'm not sure what Mrs. Macek can do to revive the franchise. Besides some drawings, what did she do for the franchise?- 2025 replies

I'd wait till after SDCC before making predictions about its funding status. And lots of people may be holding off till the end. Sidekick is predicting a 82% success rate. http://sidekick.epfl.ch/campaign/249359572-robotech-academy- 2025 replies

So if Bateman is a lying, then Shadow Chronicles did poorly and doing this Kickstarter is such a great idea especially because it comes from the same group that did the unsuccessful Shadow Chronicles. What about LLA? Was that a failure as well? What about those collector sets and boxsets? Those a failure as well? And now they expect people to get it right the 3rd, or 4th time around? See how easy I can do this? That's all donors have to do. They don't need to yell or use harsh language.- 2025 replies

Here's a question a donor can bring to SDCC: Tom Bateman mentions a couple of times that Shadow Chronicles did successfully, IHHO. Enough to warrant a sequel. http://www.macrossworld.com/mwf/index.php?showtopic=33067&p=886898 http://www.macrossworld.com/mwf/index.php?showtopic=33067&p=909996 Yet, nothing was produced. Love, Live, Alive was pretty much bought and paid for via the Mospeada license. Now factor in DVD boxset sales over the years, you would would think they have enough money. Yet here we are on Kickstarter. As a donor, you can ask that question. Did all those funds go into releasing DVD boxsets or other merchandise? Where did those funds go? How were they invested since you got them? Now, I know the peanut gallery here will try to answer that, to which I say, DON'T. Don't even think about posting your answer cuz that's not who donors should be hearing from and you don't have the answer. You only have a theory. One that can be easily brushed off coming from this forum. The project creators are the ones that should be answering this question. And by signing onto Kickstarter, they have opened themselves to this scrutiny. Kickstarter encourages project creators to be open about their projects to encourage donors. I consider it fair game to ask about their previous works.- 2025 replies

Memo and Mav are fans-turned RT.com moderators. Kevin is Kevin Mckeever, the marketing guy at RT.com. As for how bad they are? Dunno. Never met anyone of them in real-life. But we had to ban all 3 cuz the trolling from them was annoying enough. Look at the pinned Licensing thread. You'll find their posts in the archives.- 2025 replies
